All isps are hiking prices for nbn, they reduced pricing for a short time to appease people with nbn problems, however it wasnt going to last very long. The cheaper pricing structure was just not feasible if they wanted to eventually become profitable.

    • +19

The RSP, knowing this, should have advertised their plans at the higher, more reasonable, rate with a temporary discount or once-off refund if that's the case.

    • They only need to be profitable for this shitty liberal government to sell it off to the lowest bidder, which will hike prices even more than this.

      • +1

No chance of them being profitable. They rolled out the most expensive to operate tech, and are now complaining they are not making enough!
Every new connection is another monthly loss for the nbn, except FTTP!

    • +2

      aussiebroadband FTW!

    • +1

Meanwhile the NBN has 6 executives making over $1 million a year with the CEO on $3.5 million.
8% of its 6044 staff taking home more than $200,000.

  • +1

Yeh, not too happy about that email..

For my $69 I could work with 500GB. Dropping to 50mbps instead of the 80ish I get now on my FTTN might have even been ok, but I don't want to halve my upload speed along with it.

Looks like they've just added 250GB plans back into the mix. Time to start looking around, but might have to see how it plays out over the next few days, they may come up with something better.

    • +1

I've had a quick look around this morning, their 50/20 1000GB plan ($65) is still the cheapest available among well known providers, at least for now….

      • Exetel $59.99 12 month contract with static ip is probably best atm considering that in October there maybe price hikes with the 50/20

  • +4

I recently got NBN activated with these guys when they did this ozbargain offer https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/376248?page=2 I'm going to be plenty pissed if they ramp the price up.

My (Not so previous, yet.) "lovely" provider ShyMesh charged me for another month after I told them before renewal that I'm going to cancel basically robbing me $60. Didn't even get an apology.

    Avoid SkyMesh.

    • +9

I had to cancel my TPG ADSL after being connected to NBN with Telecube . Of course I had to give 30 days notice on top so got royally stitched up .
And I havent even been with Telecube 2 weeks and I've got a $10 price increase . Not happy .
On top of that I missed the free month with Aussie Broadband deal by hours .

      • +2

Bet they timed it that way deliberately. I will be switching regardless out of principle.

      • They probably should have given 3 months notice of the price hike, to help appease customers who have just switched to Telecube.

        • Not sure what this would achieve. Those that didnt like it would switch earlier. Customer loyalty in this space is limited (low cost ISP). In my mind they have offered something still comparable to the market without fleecing customers

    • So you haven't got the price hike? I signed up with them, the following day they waive the $69 setup fee but as I'd paid I couldn't get it even though I wasn't connected for a few weeks. Now they bump the price up. Seems like they favor new subscribers. It may be cheaper to switch before the price hike then switch back at the next deal.

    • what's the T&C ? 30 days notice ? did you give 30 days notice prior to next billing ?

    • 2nd vote for avoiding SkyMesh - awful speeds after a month or so.

    • I've found Skymesh excellent - FWIW did you provide Skymesh with 30 days notification that you were leaving? Though I think it's a crappy rule evidently it is in their T&C's that you'd have signed up under - so if this is the 'charged for an extra month' you're not being 100% accurate/unbiased in your description.

  • +8

I hate to say but I still can't find a better plan for 100/40. Not impressed with the abrupt $15 price hike anyone found a cheaper but reliable plan elsewhere.

    • +3

Not really, might have to drop to a 50/20 plan. Might even change providers if I have to.

      • +5

With the 100/40 plans you definately pay a premium but the 50/20 plans are really competitive . Good old TPG provide unlimited 50/20 with a phone for $70 and dare I say it much easier to get a hold of tech support . I'm not saying better , just the Telecube phone support is basically non existent .

        • +2

TPG support is not great but better than Telecube for sure.

        • +1

@kctt: send an email. Expect replies 5 days later

        • +6

Can confirm. Telecube phone support is non existent. I've called 2 weeks straight, trying to get hold of them. Nothing. I called several times a day for a whole week. No answer!

        • +1

@zapy: ombudsman seems like the answer!

        • @kctt:
HAHAHA tpg are trash. Theyoffered a refund after admitting they were screwing mw over for months.

        • TPG have been fantastic with the support they have provided and are continuing to provide in getting my connected node fixed.
They reply quick to their support forum, community.tpg.com.au and will update either to let you know in each critical stage of the support (progress/completed/confirmation they are working on it)
MyRepublic couldn't even even work out if I was connected and what to and they outright lie and contradict each other depending on the day of the week…
          Buzz is dead.
          Mate were damn good

        • @zapy:

was great 12 months ago - instant call reply at all hours.

they appear to have gone to full online chat only now - i used online chat the other day as my voip continually drops out and asked them to ring me - their reply was they didnt have enough lines to 'ring out' - ironic for a telco and given my issue!!

may they burn in hell, im over them. absolute rubbish support and quality of service irrespective of price.

    • I haven't used them but I've heard good things about mungi ($75/month unlimited 100/40). Planning to sign up with them later this month as my area has just got NBN.

  • +39

Feels like bait and switch to me

    • -6

In fairness to them, I remember reading something about this pricing being temporary on one of their whirlpool threads. And it's in their conditions that they only need to provide 2 weeks notice so they've not done anything wrong. It's just sad that it happened so suddenly.

      • Also to be fair you only need to give 3 days notice with Telecube which makes it fairly painless to jump.

        • Yeah. I'm actually not sure if I want to jump. I don't like that I'm probably gonna have to go down to a 50/20 plan because of this price change but they're still the cheapest for that speed tier at the moment.

        • +6

          @alwaysupforabargain:
To be honest I doubt I'd notice the difference 99% of the time but it's like having a V8 , Nice to know it's there if you need it .
whether it's worth the cost though …

        • @troyww: Agree. I've always been on 50/20 and only made the leap to 100/40 because of the low price. Nothing changed in the general usage experience.

        • with no refund on the pre-paid service…

        • @troyww: you're right. Moved down to 50/20 hardly any difference. Maybe wait a couple minutes extra on downloads. Now trying 25/5

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: Try 12/1 next.

        • @lostn: too slow.

        • @troyww:

I wouldn't mind 50 so much if it was synchronous. Don't really want to halve my upload speed though.

  • +6

I just got the email and was an early sign up. Such bs

  • +6

    Pissed

  • +21

Also feels like bait and switch. When searching, there were a few deals all around the same time. If they knew it had to be done a warning would have been great.

  • +11

Yep, 18 months on Telecube, and unfortunately this is my trigger to look around also.

Several bouts of random slow speeds (not "frequent", but close enough to once or twice a fortnight, and enough to be noticeable and annoying).
I'd rather see Telecube raise their prices than to lower their service, and I genuinely wish them the best, but I felt my service was "about right" for the price I was paying, and now that it is no longer the case the shopping around can begin.

    • I second that. Having been baited to switch from Skymesh I noticed speed is erratic. I am averaging one modem reset a week as speed go down as low as 30 from 80ish once a week. Not happy, especially having to pay setup fee to switch.

    • same exp here - service dropping out, VoIP inoperable for days at a time over a dozen times now- zero response to enquiries or follow up etc etc

willing to put up for it at the price point but not with rises.

  • -1

Does the Australian Consumer Law overrule their unfair terms and conditions?

    • +6

      How is it unfair?

    • +2

There is nothing unfair about it, they have every right to lift pricing provided they give notice. You aren't locked into a contract, if you were and they lifted prices, this would be very different and the total minimum commitment over the 12 or 24-month contract would then be different to what you agreed to pay.
I do however think out of good will, they should have provided a much longer notice period, perhaps 2 or 3 months in advance, it would make them look good and many would stick with them.

  • +6

Wow I only joined Telecube recently on the Opticomm network and it's been fantastic so far…until now. Really disappointed. I understand they're running a business at the end of the day but this was clearly a bait and switch after signing up here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/376248/

  • My service hasn’t even been connected (due 4/6) yet they have the audacity to increase prices. Going to Consumer Law to check if legit.

  • +6

I'll be looking elsewhere, currently on 100/40 1000GB with Unmetered Netflix on HFC.
Paying $69 p/m and with the changes I'd be paying $65 p/m for half the speed, and no mention of Netflix.

It was great for a long time, about 95 down during Peak times. But the last 6 weeks have been pretty bad.
With poor Peak hour speeds, I'd want to be paying less, not more.

    • +1

Im the Same here mate HFC and peak its about 30 mbs down max..

    • +1

Your Netflix has not been unmetered for awhile.

  • +3

I had come from Skymesh HFC paying $90 for 240gb 100/40 to Telecube $69 Plan but are being routed through the Melbourne POP (Slightly slower speeds) And now are being asked to pay close to what Skymesh is asking just did a speed test and getting off peak 63 down / 35 Up. So I'll probably go one extra month and give them the flick.

  • +18

Churned this morning. screw those guys. Everything about dealing with them has been unnecessarily difficult from signing up (no qld POP), having to manually top up the account each month, no phone support, many dropouts, congestion during peak and now a 25% price hike, only months after signing up people in waves with promotion after promotion.

They have been preparing for this bait and switch tactic for months.

EDIT: FWIW super easy churn to AussieBB took about 20min and a rebooted router (as it should be).

    • What plan and price are you paying ? I take it your not on HFC ?

      • +12

HFC in Brisbane, switched to Aussie BB paying $85 for 500gb 100/40. That's even more than TC's intended pricing, but it isn't about the price, it's about the way they conduct business and the quality of their service.

        • Only $5 more so it could be worth it.

    • I cancelled my order over 2 weeks ago because I had no Internet connected for over 2 weeks prior. I went with TPG and got my Internet connected in a few days. It was so difficult to communicate with them too. I guess they had to undercut so many things to offer cheap prices. Now I'm still waiting for my refund since I cancelled my order. If this didn't get resolved soon, I'll contact TIO.

    • will also be looking into this - telecube is dead to me!

  • +10

I'm not impressed. What is the point of those specials if you get a massive price hike 1 month in?!

    related Whirlpool thread

  • +31

I posted this late last night after staying up way too late, but this is totally bait and switch.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/telecube.com.au

    28/03 - Telecube NBN Special - 100/40 1000GB $75 - $50 Setup Fee Refunded to Account Credit
    07/04 - Telecube NBN Offer- 50/20 1000GB $65 - $50 Setup Fee ($60 Credit Back)
    13/04 - Telecube NBN - No Setup - 100/40 1000GB $75/Month
    23/04 - Telecube NBN - 100/40 1000GB $65/Mth for The First 2 Months Then $75/Mth (When Pre-Paying First 2 Months) [New Customers]
    24/04 - Telecube NBN - 100/40 1000GB $75/Mth - $10 Credit Back for New Customers
    04/05 - Telecube NBN Offers - e.g. 100/40 1000GB $70 Per Month - No Contract, $0 Setup (this was extended to the 10th May)

I have no issues with a price hike, and sure they have their T&C written to allow for this.

However after raising their price after such a big push to get people to move to TC seems a bit low to me.

I signed up awhile ago on the $69 per month / $99 setup fee.

    • +2

Bait & Switch indeed. It becomes quite apparent when you compile their past Ozbargain posts. Who will you be switching to Baa?

      • +18

Aussie Broadband will be who I am moving to.

$85 for 100/40 with 500gb per month (I use about 350Gb on average)

Sure paying the same as Telecube is raising their price to, but by all accounts offer a better product and I would have likely signed up to them if Telecube were not offering such a great price in the start.

What really hit the nail in the coffin for me last was was playing a game of Dota @ 1am and my connection dropped out and took 5ish minutes to reconnect (happens every couple of days). I finish that game to see that email and thought to myself no benefit of staying there anymore!

        • +1

Does ABB have set up fee?

        • +1

          @spiff: no

        • +1

Its not the same though. New TC 100/40 500GB price is $80/m, not $85.

        • +1

Does ABB provide a much more stable connection ? Don't mind paying a little extra but the drop outs i get from telecube is annoying as i game a fair bit and stream movies at the same time

        • +1

@2fiddy: yes they do. For gaming tho I'm getting packet loss quite often. Very annoying.

        • +1

I'm on fixed wireless and I get random disconnections both on SkyMesh and Telecube so I think it's a good guess the drop out is NBNs fault.

        • +1

          @TarquinOliverNimrod:

You should bring that up with them. I have no issues while gaming and we're both in Perth.

        • +1

@nurries: i moved to tc. no packet loss but ping is bad, intl mostly

        • +1

@2fiddy: Yes ABB's connection is as stable as you can get.

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: I'm considering static ip, might help ? But it's extra $10 :(

        • @2fiddy: dont think thatll help but i could be wrong. nurries says they have no issue, so could be isolated, however on wp others are also having that same issue.

        • @2fiddy:

I've been with aussie since before they built their own POIs, can't ever recall having a dropout that wasn't NBN going down for maintence

        • @RandomFox:
Not really NBNs fault. fixed wireless is at fault….subject to much more external interference than a wired connection.
But the only or best option in many regional areas.

        • @2fiddy:
Depends what your "dropouts" are.. If it's your NBN FttN connection losing sync, then it wont matter which ISP you're with, they'll all be equally affected by the poor connection.

    • I've been with Telecube for more than 12 months now (on a significantly better deal than any of those listed above IMHO) and have not yet received this email.
Is it only being sent out to Heavy Users I wonder?

EDIT: I'm only on a 50/20 plan (my shitty FttN maxxes out at 35/10 at the best of times anyway), maybe only 100/40 customers affected?

      • Yes I am also on a 50/20 plan and did not get that email.

      • I can also confirm I haven't gotten an email - I am on the 25/5 plan 500gig for $45per month

      • I'm on 100/40 with 1000gb, but i only use around 150gb a month :D
still got that email. only been with them about 6 months tho

      • I'm on the 25/5 plan 500GB $45, activated roughly a week ago, checked account and email and nothing has changed… yet…

      • I am on 50/20 500GB @ $55 and average usage and i have not received the email yet. Not sure it might be only for 100/40 customers?

      • +1

Likewise I am on a 50/20 for $54 a month and have not received an email…

        • +1

Still can't believe they're happy to keep selling us that $54 plan.
I genuinely expected they'd up the price after the 6 month price guarantee expired!

  • +4

They only just processed my order on Wednesday, still not connected. Definitely feels like a bait and switch.

    • +3

Enjoy that 1 month at $70!

      • If they can get an installation technician in during that month… It's a new connection.

    • +1

If you paid a connection fee you've got a good reason to have it waived. Just mention ombudsmen if they say no.

  • +9

Not even 1 month in and price hike of 20% is pretty brutal. Hard to believe this; "improve the quality of the service that we are providing", was not known a month ago when they were providing these specials. Will likely swap to Aussiebroadband on principle alone for this price gouging.

  • +2
Merged from Telecube Increased Price. Any Other Good Suggestion?

Email received this morning, price hiking from trlecube to 80 per month. Disgraceful.
Any good suggestion/alternative witb good reputation?
don't need ulimited. 300-500g more than enough.

    • +1

      Taking a quick look,

TPG offers $90 a mth for unlimited data at the max speed tier, + $100 setup if no lock in
Aussie Broadband offers $99/month at the max speed tier (don't know about setup cost)
Exetel offers $80 a month for max speed tier with 500GB anytime usage or $90 a month for unlimited data. Both have $20 setup fees.
NuSkope offers $89 to $99 a mth for 100mbps with 500GB or unlimited quota. $99 setup fee for no contract, but otherwise 2 years.

So Telecube's offering is on par with the competition. The downside of having to move to another provider is that you either have to pay a setup fee or lock yourself into a contract… which in my opinion makes it less worthwhile of switching over.

      • +3

        AussieBB is $0 setup

  • mungi $75 for tier100
i am looking round to find
    $60 for tier50 or $70 for tier 100
    500g data sufficient for me.
    any good suggestion?
mate or batefoot price only work for 6 monthes.

    • +1

The best deal seems to be Kogan 50/20 unlimited https://www.koganinternet.com.au/

The fastest nbn is nott available at $70 anywhere. I currently pay $80 with Telstra as I negotiated a deal (1000gb which is pretty much like unlimited for me) for the fastest speed and free modem.
