Yeah I bought this on release and despite being pumped for it, I was left feeling rather deflated. I don't think it's aged well at all. Not a bad price to check it out at though.

XB1 has Forza Horizon which beats every racer game currently available on PS4 imo. PS4's wipeout, redout are pretty good as well and they offer motion control in those games which is fun.
Just look at the exclusives and decide, if you get really impressed by Forza Horizon( has australian utes and roads lol), then go for XB1, otherwise get PS4 because upcoming arcade racing games are not exclusive, such as The Crew 2.
The controllers are equally adequate for arcade racers. I would say I marginally prefer the ergonomics of the PS4 controller.
