AEG 18v Trimmer and Blower Kit $350 (Was $450) @ Bunnings Warehouse

80

Bunnings have the AEG 18b blower and trimmer kit with two 5ah batteries and charger going for $350. They used to be $499 last year then it came down to $450 and now $350. You also get the bonus charger via redemption from aeg. The blower it's self with battery and charger goes for $299 or the trimmer as a kit with batter and charger goes for $399, so this is damn cheap…
Not sure if they are clearing or what, but it's on the bunnings and aeg websites for the current price of $350. The only thing I can think of is they are discontinuing the 5ah batteries with the new 6ah fusion units coming out but that is just my speculation. I have these and they are great. I paid $450 x for the kit.

I reckon you'd be lucky to get 5 minutes out of the trimmer on each battery…

Very constructive comment jv.. Actually with a 5ah battery I get over 40 minutes. The blower drains the power and only last about 20 to 30 minutes

      • Actually with a 5ah battery I get over 40 minutes.

Continuously, whilst cutting grass? I doubt it…

You wouldn't even get that much time out of a drill on a 5ah battery…

        • its 18v not 54v or 36v.

Its not about the size its about how you use it!

      • exactly…

If you're doing edging continuously, it's not going to last long… I'd only ever use a petrol trimmer, unless you have a tiny lawn area.

        • I actually have an edger for edging. So I only use it to trim after mowing.
It has two speeds, and for trimming the slower speed is fine. It's actually very good, and i am impressed. Why don't you try it and then come back and comment. I have had petrol, 36v ryobi and this. This is substantially better than the ryobi 36v and as good as petrol. It's the blower that really chews through batteries

I already tried an electric trimmer… Wasn't long before I bought myself a petrol Stihl. Will never go back to batteries.

        • @jv: use to own a stihl fc56 straight shaft. gone to the AEG 58v gear, won't be turning back to petrol. but each to their own.

@jv: never go back to batteries, who needs more than 640K of memory?

who needs more than 640K of memory?

I'm typing this on my TRS-80

I used to think the same way.

I was given a battery mower a decade ago. Of course it was crap because battery technology was terrible and moreso in garden tools.

I've since tried the new gen of 18V brushless offerings and I have to say, they're close to par with petrol. Infact, the brushless 16' chainsaws perform better than petrol ones. Less noise, vibration and set up time too.

I picked up the chainsaw kit of gumtree and sold the battery and charger and ended up with the chainsaw for nothing brand new in box. Haven't used it yet. Do you have the 18v chainsaw? Is it that good?
I have used the ozito little chainsaw 25.4cc with like 12" bar and it's a little ripper…

Tried the Makita 36V. Takes two standard Makita 18v. It was great but I cannot live with the engineering laziness of using two 18V batteries. It is only going to go as long as the crappier one.

Tried the AEG 58V. Awesome skin and the only battery powered chainsaw with metal bucking spikes. Didn't get one due to unique battery (and I don't need any of their other outdoor skins ATM).

Saw the Milwaukee 18V chainsaw in action. Keen to demo it and will buy if it lives up to expectation. Uses Milwaukee 18V standard fittings but with a 9ah battery. This one may seem underpowered compared to the two but like a finely honed race car, it's all about efficiency of design.

But to answer your question, battery chainsaws are great for felling average sized medium resin trees. You may be slower to get to through the cut but the time saved trying to handle a petrol unit equals out.

I just bought this kit https://www.bunnings.com.au/aeg-58v-blower-and-line-trimmer-…
Personally, I think this kit is better valued as you will have a free chainsaw!

I like having the one battery system, so I have all 18v tools, rather than the 58v.
It means I have a battery in every tool I regularly use, with a total of 9 batteries now..

      • Should I get lawn mower from aeg?

Ppl said I shoukd get a petrol one

        • I have had the 58V mower for a few weeks and quite like it. Sufficient power to plow through 30cm tall grass, just make sure to clear the catcher when it's full.

People say the chassis is too low for the blade, but for my relatively flat yard I feel that a height setting of 5 or 6 (out of 7 highest) is good for me.

You can probably also mechanically bend the bar blade to get a lower cut.

      • If you only use garden equipment and not the power drills and tools etc, I think the 58V is a better kit.

With power tools, I'm actually pretty happy with Ozito 18V powerx tools as an very occasional user, don't see the need for better quality $$ gear.

    • You actually get 564Wh of battery power as well as opposed to 180Wh, its a pretty good deal that one, would be perfect to put in my camper if I had the coin.
