Can't imagine Nougat runs too well on a gig of ram? I know the tab3 essential is only just useable for light stuff with similar specs but running 5.0.

$77 as a media player is not cheap, i really dont know what else it can do with 1GB RAM.

Don't know why you're being downvoted. This device is slow to the point that it struggles to load stock apps. I would recommend looking elsewhere.

      • Agree. Yes it low $77 but rubbish is still rubbish.

      • MT8167* has A35 CPU cores, which are much slower than A53 (1.78 vs 2.24 per clock cycle). Can't find exactly what this "D" variant is.
GE8300 GPU is very good for this 1024x600 display, 41.6 GFLOPS, and is pretty recent (2017), and has openGLES 3.2 and Vulkan 1.0.
Could be great with Oreo Go.

I tried to try one at OfficeWorks, but… no display model… anyone know where one could try one?

  • How does it go as a YouTube device for little kids who won’t use apps?

I have the older Tab 3 - works fine for the kids for YT and general browsing and kids games.

      my grandkids have no issues

    • I got one of these for my 6yo son, set up using Family Link, which needs Marshmallow or later to work. Does the job nicely.

    • Fine for this. Only problem I’ve had is finding a good case for a reasonable price.

A good "training tablet" for the youngungs.

You know not to buy them ipads if these things end up being used as frisbees

Or just buy an older model ipad. We have only ever had 1 ipad and the thing is rock solid, has been dropped multiple times without a case and no issues. Seems to keep up with newer apps a lot better than my Nexus 10 and they were bought within the same 6 months of each other.

    • This is exactly why you buy them the cheap stuff first. To gauge if they will treat it well or throw it around. Found this very thing out when i gifted my friends daughter a cheapo tablet. Gone to the scrap heap because she broke it.

    • You know not to buy them ipads

      Yep.

  • Better off spending another $100 and getting the tab 3 8 plus if you need something in this size.

I would stay away from Lenovo. I have only had two of their tablets (Tab 4 10 Plus & Tab 3 8 Plus) and they are not good. Build, display, battery life, audio are really good for the price you pay…. but its the performance! Lenovo does not bother with making the OS run smoothly. Apps take forever to load, crashes frequently and is just plain sluggish.

    • My P8 plus runs fine.

Still using my Nexus 7 2013 a bit till i get around rooting my P8. Just a few measly threads on xda about this.

Haven't actually played any taxing games on my P8 so no idea on performance nor have I experienced much crashing.

But i know my nexus cant run many games smoothly, none that I want to play again much, ie SAS4, fallout shelter, The trail

Anyway based on the standby time of the Tab 7, I guess by default this tablet may also experience pretty high battery drain on standby, pretty much like the P8.

      • I've been on the Russian LineageOS release for the P8 since the first build, its pretty stable. SoT increased, but standby time is worse. Before I could get a whole week of standby, on Lineage its only around 3 days.

  • I've got one of the older ones which I use for running topographic GPS maps alongside my regular Garmin. I also have a dongle connected via Bluetooth to do diagnostics. It handles these tasks without issue aside from potentially getting hot if kept in full sun but for the most part it's been fine.

  • Where can I try one?
