it is s905.
Why not get a s912 instead?
If you consider buying a device for LE, do not buy Amlogic S912! Stick with s905
Unfortunately for s912 Amlogic has not released fbdev Mali libraries and has no plans to release them.

These builds use libhybris and Android gralloc Mali driver to provide OpenGL for Kodi - this is an experimental approach with CPU overhead - this means suboptimal GPU performance.

Stick with s905x for Libreelec/coreelec

it’s an s905w,isn’t that the cheapie compared to $905x …..also 30fps vs 60fps , not that i have a 4k tv, or content but friends do.

in sure the xiaomi fanboys will jump in and talk about the xiaomi box, but this has an ethernet port the xiaomi doesn’t …. this runs normal, android so can load anything from the playstore, the xiaomi runs google tv so need to side load which is trickey for, kids or grandparents ….

    • Well its not all negative for android tv. If you want netflix at 1080p or 4k. You would need to have android tv os. At least you can side load apps you cant upgrade the drm on non android tv os so you can watch netflix at 1080p or 4k.

Just saying. Depends whats important to you.

In my case i went with mecool m8s pro l and not the xiaomi mi box 3 because 1080p netflix is ok and i have a s912 cpu, network port, 3GB ram and 32GB storage.

  • For something with 2GB it looks pretty good. Will play x265 comfortably.

  • For around $65 delivered I believe this is a better buy.

    • better to stick with the amlogic chip for now. I made the mistake of buying a cheap player with a rk3329 chip. Libreelec doesn't support rockchip, when you need to finally dump the older android os when it gets too slow

    • Only a little more for a mi box

  • Didn't think you could get a TV box with dual band WIFI at this price.

    • +1

dual band (doesn’t mention ac) and it reckons bluetooth …..i hate having to loose a port to add a dongle for a remote keyboard ….so other remote options on bluetooth is appealing.

    • mi box is wireless ac

  • +1

Compare the performance of boxes on this chart

  • Thanks altomic for the post and your knowledge. I poked my head into this stuff a while ago and have forgotten it all.

    • same i haven’t look at these things in a year ……

  • The mx10 comes in at #36 on that chart. It is $73.13 and it looks like there is a coupon code MX10MX. It looks as though it should come in at $66 if my maths is right (1/11 discount?). I have to create an account to confirm it and I'm not sure if I want it. Is it an OK box?

  • Stick with s905x for Libreelec/coreelec

Do you mean this s905w box is no good for LibreELEC? 🤭

  • Is there any equivalent Android TV box that has the ability to plug an antenna into it, and use it to watch/record FTA?

  • Mine is stuck on android boot screen

    • Have you tried a reset by inserting a paper clip and depressing the reset button while plugging in the power lead?
