    • haha I get those on my ads
      they are so (profanity) annoying

  • Guys just a warning doing so will attract scams whatnot including dodgy buyers, car wreckers haunting you.

Time wasters every where on gumstree

    • Gumtree itself IS the real scammer.

      • -1

they became the scammers when they stopped letting you bump for free

        • +2

          Just relist the ad. Simple.

        • +1

Try lowering your price so people might actually be interested

      • its called scumtree for a reason

  • +6

I just listed my old car, was going to send it to the wreckers for a few hundred, listed it for $500 and actually had a legitimate enquiry, PayPal $20 will just be icing on the cake.

  • "Each eligible individual who completes the above steps during the Promotion Period will receive a reward of $20 (Australian Dollars) deposited into the balance of their linked PayPal account on or around 6 June"

Wait today is 18th june. What gives?

  • +7

i put the gf's car up for a silly high price and I've had two responses in an hour.. what is wrong with ppl

    • Nigerian buyers?

    • They're smart, have adopted an aggressive strategy, and have a high threshhold for social embarrassment?

Probably have prewritten responses that get sent to every new listing, on the off change they can pick up a car cheaply and flip it for profit

    • -1

your gf's bitcoin lambo is worth more than you thought

  • Listed lol

  • +4

Prepare to receive several offers from buyers isolated in oil rigs and artic research facilities. A few from Mars space stations might be interested in your car too.

    • +6

Hi this is Elon Musk, transmitting from Mars SpaceX Colony. Company took my only Tesla Roadster for a rocket launch without my knowledge and I need your corolla by next month…

  • Argh.

I have two modern cars gathering dust. Mrs & i got company cars. Too tight & over thinking the sale pitch & prep, try for best sale price. But 6 mths has gone by!! So so stupid!

This is the kick in the hole i needed. But I’ve only heard VERY bad 1st hand experiences from family & friends on gumtree with cars/scooters/motorbikes. 3x. Only one good story.

    Sound advice, please.

    • +6

wow 6 months and $20 is what motivated you to sell your car? Can I up it to $50 and you will sell your house?

      • Free, plus $20… motivated this proud human to embarrass himself. OzBargain is full of people with strange justifications etc etc related to being tight. Poor man’s economy etc. my hand is high. I ave issues. Yes. Here for help on this one, please people.

I was only looking at carsales and others. Looking for a genuine sale.

    just got my account suspended…

livechat with them and the guy (Luke) says he can't help - then closes the chat!
my chat icon is turned off to "busy", so already sent an email.

Not sure what happened but warning to everyone who is planning to do this.

if you get suspended, remember to remove them from your paypal connection

    • +3

Same here listed my car then got an email saying it was deleted few minutes later (entered all correct details and the price wasn't way off either). Then tried to log into my account but got an error message. Poor form can't be bothered contacting them.

For those in the same boat and wondering how to remove the PayPal link

Log in to PayPal > Settings

      Either

Account settings > Log in with PayPal (Websites where I've logged in with PayPal) > Change > Delete Gumtree

      Or

Security > Permissions you've given (Keep track of the data and permissions you're sharing with the apps and sites you use) > Edit > Delete Gumtree

      • Sorry to hear. Was it obviously fake in any way?

Otherwise maybe some sore loser on here is reporting them as scams?

  • Does it say how long the listing has to be up for or can you list and remove a listing within a day?

    • "The exact period that the promotion will be advertised will be determined by Gumtree in its absolute discretion but will fall within the period between 17/06/2018 and 30/06/2018."

      • That’s not what he meant.

        • +1

I know it isn't answering his question, because at the time there was no answer so I did the best with what information we got.

  • +1

My ad is only an hour old and already had my first scammer ask me to email them at [email protected]
Lucky I used a throw away number as they contacted via text.

  • +4

Gumtree… home of the lowball offer. Oh, you haven't sold your car within 30 minutes of posting it? You must be getting desperate! I offer you 1/3 of the asking price. Cash today! When can I pickup?

    • Anytime before 4pm.

      415 Maroondah Highway, Ringwood

    • But you +vote?

      LOL

      • +vote because I have listed my car and will get $20. The calibre of Gumtree users doesn't affect this deal. Looks like I might have even sold the car!

  • +6

Dont have a car so listed my neighbor car instead…

    • +1

There will be blood on your hands when a Nigerian Price appears at your neighbour's house with a suitcase full of American dollars

      • A baseball bat'll fix that.

  • how long would you have to wait to receive the payment?

    • Until the payment reaches your PayPal account.

  • So people are now questioning my $50,000 + price for a 15 year old car… lol

    • hahaha I guess maybe they think it's a typo of 500? :)

  • +1

Listed a 2011 Mazda 3 with no photo for $15K which it is 50% more than it should be and within 15 mins Amy said she is interested.

    • +1

I'm guessing that her email addy is [email protected] ? If so I got that one too. I'm now regretting going for this $20 deal.

      • Yes did you refer my ad to her?

        • +2

She goes through a lot of cars. It's hard to drive on an offshore oil rig without going over the edge. I will tell her to wear her seat belt next time.

        • +2

@steven6: Every time I have listed a car I get lowball offers from some guy called Habib. I feel like starting a listing with "F*** off Habib:

  • Hahah listed my 18year old corolla for $3000, got a SMS and call from someone interested..

Then I quickly jacked up the price to $4500 to stop ppl from asking

    • +1

If you get an email from someone on an oil rig far, far away and they offer you $4500 for your 18yo Corolla, Christmas has come real early for you.

  • Ad posted. See how we go

  • -1

Gumtree, bad move… This is open to abuse and it is now on ozbargain.
3 legit PayPal accounts, 3 gumtree accounts, 3 email addresses, 3 mobile phones with their own 3G, 3 cars (well), 3x$20 = $60.. Now what is your time worth? And why 3?

    • Don't tell me it's on ozbargain now? Geeeeees game over

    • Imagine if you had 500 accounts? 500 x $20, easy 10k

    • ..and 3 VIN numbers

  • By the way, nice way to pop your cherry OP

    • lol advertise your car for sale, pop your cherry… gee has a nasty ring to it doesn't it?

      • Nasty ring?

  • Thanks.

Already selling a car on carsales, so this $20 was good motivation to list on scumtree…

Why are people giving their real phone numbers though? I only used an email address… If someone is keen, then we can exchange details - too many scammers.

    • +2

Yeah phone is optional, i just put email and no spam or scammers at all.

  • +1

Paypal fees to receive money via Gumtree, fees to withdraw money from Paypal account and buyers remorse = "buyer protection"…. no thanks.

  • so they pay you by paypal, drive the car away then cancel the paypal payment ??

  • +1

Thanks op but will pos vote when I see the money.

    • Listed a 1999 Ford Falcon Classic AU model with scratches and dents for $5000 firm.

      Got a message this morning;

      Hi hetzjagd,
I'm not sure what is going on. You may have accidentally put the wrong price on.
Based on the description you will be lucky to get $1000 for it.
I wish you all the best.
      Good luck.

      • A very old car with scratches and dents makes people believe it's barely roadworthy even if these damages are purely cosmetic.

      • Sounds like a bargain compared to my old car I listed with custom fade paintwork for 3 times the price.

  • -2

I post a ad. 3 days ago, no 20 AUD received

    • +1

Did you read the terms of the promotion???? Obviously not. Go back and read it.

  • Each eligible individual who completes the above steps during the Promotion Period will receive a reward of $20 (Australian Dollars) deposited into the balance of their linked PayPal account on or around 6 July. Any ad listed after advertising for the promotion has ceased will be invalid for the purposes of this promotion and will not receive a reward

  • I can't seem to list my car without gumtree forcing me to pay 20 bucks to activate my listing. Is this new?

  • +3

Listed my car legitimately for sale. Had 3 genuine buyers, 3 scammers, 2 people visited. Car sold. Success and I get a bonus $20.

    • Same, but overpriced. 18 views, no replys, been up for 15 days, as far as I know I did everything correct but still no $20

  • anyone receive their $20 yet? it was meant to come in on or around today

    • i did. paypal automatically deducts 20 when i paid the amaysim deal

      Subtotal $20.00 AUD
      Special offer - $20.00 AUD
      Total $0.00 AUD

      • when did it come through? nothing for me yet :'(

        • never noticed though

      • oh….so it's a voucher that you can use anywhere, not an actual deposit….?

        • i don't know. can you see it in your paypal balance?

        • @thekensai: nope….no mention of a voucher or the $20…..

    • +1

I haven't received mine either yet. I checked my Paypal account and no deposit from Gumtree. No emails either. If i don't get it by today then will fire off an email later on.

  • +3

It's under the Wallet page once you are logged in to PayPal. It is NOT added to your PayPal balance, meaning you cannot withdraw it, and it can only be used on your next purchase when you pay with PayPal.

    • thanks, it is there, valid until 2025

    • …lovely…..I guess I'll need to find something for $20….to spend it on since I can't withdraw it back….

  • +1

WTF, they said they would give $20 to your paypal balance, not a bloody $20 payment "offer"!

    • -2

      Free is FREE

      • The T&Cs are a legally binding contract, they broke that contract by not doing what they said they would.

Saying a stupid truism does not change that!

        • -1

Get over it, I've spent mine…

        • @nocure: Just tried using mine up but it didn't go through….so I guess my purchase wasn't valid…..so what constitutes a valid purchase?

        • @Zachary: I used on BWS website and the $ got deducted from Paypal offer.

        • @spk: Well I used it on ebay purchase and no deductions were made….paid full price….. ಠ_ಠ

Upon checking paypal account, lo and behold, the offer is still there…..just don't know what "valid" purchases I can use it on, if I can't use it on ebay….

        • @spk: Was your purchase less than $20?

        • @sween64: My cart amount was $20. redeemed $10 from woolworths rewards, $5 from BWS coupon and paid using paypal. $5 was taken out from paypal coupon

    • Contact Gumtree support and ask for it to be rectified. Let us know how you go.

      • I actually tried this but no reply…it's been 5 days and they said they would reply within 6 hrs…..6 hrs my ass!

        • I'm not gonna bother contacting Gumtree. The offer can be used on eBay just without any other code. It can also probably used at other sites that checkout with PayPal. I'll use it eventually.

        • @sween64: …yeah I just noticed….also apparently some ebay items don't work with it as well like what steven6 said….

  • +2

I got an email from gumtree saying I have the $20 but no $20 yet in my paypal. I guess they are a bit slow paying but I reckon its coming :D

  • +1

    You’re $20 richer
Thank you for entering the EOFY giveaway and listing your car for sale on Gumtree Cars

$20 has now been added to your PayPal account!

Sweet, thanks for this OP and of course thank you Gumtree!

  • +2

FYI for anyone having trouble finding the voucher in their paypal account - the voucher is only visible in a personal paypal account. If you have a business account you have to downgrade in order to access it. There's no option to do this via the dashboard, it's a phone call/email to paypal. Also, heads-up - apparently if you do choose to downgrade, you won't be able to upgrade the same account again.

    • This is a bit of a hassle as mine is a currently a business PayPal. Just checking, did you get this information from PayPal? I prefer to just keep mine as business :/

  • Yeah I got the email to say it has been paid, but no sign of it in my paypal yet?
