That's weird, the version from windows store only works on Windows 10

    Maybe that's why it's cheaper

    • Not really surprising when the only other Windows that had the Store was 8/8.1 and that's no longer supported by MS. Ignoring the extended security support that is.

      • Can buy direct from affinity store and it supports W7 but full price.

Pretty interested in giving Photo a go now photoshop has gone down the rental route

        • See my comment about "full price"

This software is great but this isn't a bargain. Let me explain.

If you buy in USD from Affinity's website you'll get it for even cheaper than this any day of the year. I did this to buy Photo a year ago and Designer 2 years ago.

Great software for a much better price than Adobe's bloated offerings, but the company does outrageous price gouging if you say you're from Australia.

    • How do you buy it in USD? It's only coming up as AUD for me.

My Adobe CC subscription is coming to an end in September and I'm very interested in getting Designer and Photo as a replacement.

I just looked into it for you. It indeed says $79.99 AUD.

I just used a VPN and selected a US exit and it came up as $49.99. Perhaps that's what I did in the past. It appears to still work.

FYI: $49.99 USD is currently $67.60 AUD, so if pure cost is all you're optimising for here, OP's deal is actually better.

        • Thank you for looking into it for me, that is a big help.

I won't be getting it for a few months so I'll definitely consider getting a VPN when the time comes.

        • @Vector18: I definitely recommend both Designer and Photo. They are much better than Illustrator and Photoshop IMHO. There is no shortage of peoeple saying Illustrator/Photoshop are easier to use but those people have invariably been using them for many years.

I had also been using them for years (not extensively) and Designer and Photo were immediately more intuitive from the first day of use. Pretty much the only thing Photoshop can do that Photo can't is that 3D stuff, but I always found it kinda silly that Photoshop included that anyway.

        • @jazoom: I have been using the 10 day trial for Designer for the last few days and I'm finding it really easy to use. It didn't take me long to work most of it out, granted there are new things I am finding out every time I use it but I'm finding that pretty fun haha

I've been using Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign very frequently for over 5 years (Illustrator and PS even longer) and I completely agree with you. I would add Illustrator has image trace as well which Designer doesn't seem to have(?) but apart from that I'm already preferring Designer.

I'll try the 10 trial for Photo in a few days.

I saw a teaser video for Publisher on Youtube, that looks really good as well. Hoping that comes out in the next few months.

@Vector18: Hooray for not being locked into Adobe's subscription ecosystem!

        • @jazoom: Haha that's what sparked me to look somewhere else!

If it helps anyone I have both Designer and Photo and they're great for the price but not without problems. There are still weird bugs and loading raw files in Photo is a slow, tedious process. But it'll continue to evolve and improve over time and is great value for money.

And when I bought Designer (pre order at discounted price) I made the mistake of selecting Australia when setting up my account. After that you can't change back and prices for future products will all be AUD. I ended up creating a second US account to buy Photo, no VPN needed.

From what I read of the price gouging it actually stems from the Apple Mac App store. Affinity can't undercut the AU prices on the Mac App Store and Apple supposedly dictates the price in AUD based on exchange rates that could be a year or two old. That's what I read at the time, who knows if it's accurate.

Man, you're not kidding. This is the only reason I have Adobe Bridge installed on my PC. For looking at raws. There is word Affinity is working on a Lightroom competitor at the moment. I'm sure they'll do a great job of it.

If that was the case they would have changed the price to be accurate by now, but it's been super gougy for years.

        Whuuut. Give me Publisher first!

Still waiting on the trinity before I make the jump and start messing with my workflow.

They're currently working on an InDesign competitor. If the DAM is next, you may be waiting for a while. :(
