  • Damn! Officeworks no longer stock the BAR.

    • +1

      Await the HN comments!

    • +2

But it is stocked at The Good Guys, and they have a price-beat policy: https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/beat-it

Here's the search, they are clearance items at TGG so stock may be scarce:
      https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/SearchDisplay?categoryId=&sto…

      • GG has a long list of 30 Day Price Guarantee terms & conditions here is a few
30 Day Price Guarantee does not apply in respect of advertising errors, limited or group buy offers, clearance products, promo code offers, finance offers, prices which include bonus offers, cash backs or discounts whether these are offered directly or via redemption from a supplier or a third party and also excludes items sold on marketplace

        • How is that relevant to their price-beat policy? The 30-day price guarantee is not the same thing as their price-beat policy.

    • +2

That is the case with most file transfers. Enable write caching on the device if you are willing to safely remove it.

  • +2

Older model…. new ones are bigger and faster USB 3.1

    • +3

Guess many of us just want one in our key rings.

      • Yeah I get that… I've got a couple of these and the newer one

    • some of us still have computers that dont do USB 3

  • Great deal, cheap as chips!!

    • +2

yep, grabbed 3 of the 32gb , at $12 i can handle the lower speed and in sure next years left sale they will have faster ones cheap.

relatives always borrow these things and never bring them back.

  • The tiny little sandisk ones are far more practical. Not as bulky in your pocket

    • Buying one of these 128gb to replace a tiny 128gb sandisk that died after 2 years

      • +2

True, I guess it depends how you use it and if size matters ;)

    • +2

The tiny little sandisk ones are far more practical. Not as bulky in your pocket

True, I keep one in my wallet, in the coin section. But after two years like that, the plastic part has broken its retaining clips, and keeps coming off. Although the Samsung Bar is considerably larger, I think I'd get at least ten years before it breaks.

    • thing with the bar ones is the key ring feature …the tiny sandisk are easily lost.

      • I haven't had a hard time losing them but I had a prior one and like the others suggested. The plastic would break off after 2-3 years. It's a shame they don't make a metal one. What do you mean by keyring feature?

        • My plastic part also broke after a year or two. I hardly use the drive and it's stored away usually. I did manage to get a warranty claim through Sandisk.

    • Out of 6-8 tiny SandDisk Ultra Fit that I have, at least 2 refuse to write/read multi-gigabyte files. I would not recommend buying them.

  • Wow. Blast from the past!!

  • I had one of these and I think the keyring loop is awful. Being at a fixed 90 degrees means it sits on an awkward angle if you flip it the wrong way, and even if you flip it the right way it won’t sit flush with keys. There are better options. But it’s sturdy, at least.

    • +1

If you know of a better USB that is as sturdy, please share the details.

      • Both Kingston and ADATA have more sensibly designed metal flash drives. Unfortunately the ADATA only goes up to 64GB.
Not sure how either compare in terms of performance. In saying that, they couldn't be much worse than the Bar. Samsung Bar has a pretty woeful write speed at ~30MBps. Read speed is much more serviceable (though, still not very good) at ~150MBps.

        • I searched for Kingston and Adata, and I found the Kingston SE9 and the Adata UV310 series of drives. Were these the ones you were referring to?

          The Kingston SE9 has a write speed of 10 MBytes/second: http://usb.userbenchmark.com/SpeedTest/1779/Kingston-DataTra…

I wasn't able to find a benchmark of the Adata UV310 drives.

      • +1

Admittedly, I may be wrong when it comes to 128Gb. But for sturdiness and keychain-suitable design, my fav would be PNY Hooke Attache series. At the moment I'm using an orbitkey organiser with their branded USB accessory.

The running temperature is also 90 degrees

    Boycott

    • Samsung or Harvey Norman's, and why please?

      • +6

You must be living in the cave.

Gerry, with his below $1K import tax whinges.

        • +3

@FabMan: looks like Gerry has been astro turfing as well.

        • @FabMan:

He did what he could for his own business

          Plz, enjoy your GST.

        • -2

@Yummy: You know who put it in place? Our Government, so go boycott your taxes please.

        • -6

@idonotknowwhy: The government made the right decision for the future of Australians, crying about it online doesn't change anything and the little boycott the self serving are pushing won't make an impact.

        • +2

          @FabMan:

Do you know who started this "oh I'm poor, that ain't a level playing field" outcry crap?

Why do I get punished for buying collectable stuff from overseas where I can't buys em locally here?

        • +1

@Yummy: of course he knows, this is Gerry's OzBargain account lol

        • -2

@Yummy: I know you are thinking of you. On the same page, why are store owners punished for paying for Australian wages, renting shop space, and displaying goods that people check out and leave to order online cheaper?

        • These specials are made for others to purchase in the hopes of others purchasing more stuff at a high margin. They are making hardly any money or even losing money on these. It's actually in our best interest to ozbargain these type of deals.

        • @FabMan:

Because that's competition and the free market. Deal with it.

        • -5

@jared444: I don't have to, government stepped in, deal with it. You need a box of tissues? Looks like a lot of you do.

I hope none of those crying are Millennials who complain about Baby Boomers leaving their future in jeopardy while now demanding they don't pay GST on imports, in turn shafting the local economy and future generations. I can't stand a hypocrite.

        • -1

@FabMan: Why don't you explain to all the whinging millennials exactly how this new legislation will benefit "future generations". You seem to have extensive knowledge on the subject that most other's aren't privy to.

        • -3

@smartazz104: Do your own research, I have no interest in educating those that have no interest in learning but just arguing and whinging.

Meanwhile we have people complaining here about the GST on imported goods because they can't get their Collectable Toys at a lower price. Grow up people, this affects the entire country. So for every 10 toys you'd normally get you can only get 9, well boo hoo.

        • @FabMan:

LOL as ignorant as Gerry himself.. oh wait a minute, I see the similarity here… Hi Mista Harvey!

You do realize a 10% GST on OS purchase is still cheaper than Gerry's ripoff sales?

          boycottharveynorman

Interesting article abt bad boy Gerry

        • -2

@Yummy: I'm not pro Harvey Norman's you ignorant fool, I'm pro Australian economy over the self serving interest that you are showing. The planet is full of selfish people, so I'm not surprised to be communicating to one with you.

Now go cry about your toys costing you a bit more somewhere else please. I'm glad the government is taking more money from you.

Go boycott Harvey Normans and change nothing, go give your money to another local company that will benefit from the new import tax, a company that wanted this tax and petitioned the government in private and be the hypocrite many people always are.

        • -1

          @FabMan:

Mate, you are deviating from the subject.

Ofc I agree with you that our Gov is sh!t broke so you need to donates some of your hard earning. I have no prob with that. Heck let's give em 17.5% instead. It's still cheaper than Gerry's.

So let's go back to HN boycott topic, shall we?

        • -3

@Yummy: You asked earlier why you are being punished as if you are a victim for paying 10% more for your toys. So since you asked why a law was put in place, I gave my view as to its benefits. I didn't go off topic. Harvey Norman's Gerry Harvey didn't create the law, the government did. So why don't people boycott or threaten them?

Gerry Harvey pushed for the GST, but so would have the CEOs/leaders of many major stores. He was just the most vocal. So boycotting Harvey Norman's for a Government enacted law that many companies wanted is stupid, just like many of the comments here by those whinging.

You can boycott Harvey Norman's, hurt them even, though boycotts rarely do anything, but the law will remain and those who enacted it (The Government) are not affected but at least those crying can have someone they can attack to make themselves feel better.

        • @FabMan:

LOL you are a stubborn boomerang, aren't ya?

Let's go back time with my DeLorean.

          Boycott

Samsung or Harvey Norman's, and why please?

Answers: whinges whines blah blah imnotgerry lolyou lolme yadda yadda

Yes, I'm getting punished coz of Gerry's whinges. Now I have to pay more for my collectable giant dragon dildo toys. Wish Gerry sells this though so I dont have to import em. I would pay him double the price!

          threaten
Now now, my dragon dildos aren't that dangerous.

Aaaaand I don't need to do that. I will just vote for the other guy. Easy peasy.

          /s (fyi)

        • -2

@Yummy: I see, I didn't know you were piss taking. I just saw people crying about something out of their control and discussing who they can lash out on to make themselves feel less impotent and not in the flaccid penis way, but in the 'I realise I have no actual power way'.

        • -1

          @FabMan:

So can we boycott HN, pretty please Mr FapMan?

        • Do your own research, I have no interest in educating those that have no interest in learning but just arguing and whinging.

Ahh you have no idea, got it.

        • @Yummy: What is wrong with you? Are you a child or something?

        • -3

@smartazz104: Yes that must it, it can't be because I'm tired of dealing with morons.

        • -1

          @FabMan:

Well it'll do more harm than good. All this will do is push up the prices of consumer goods, increase inflation, which in turn will increase interest rates and crash the housing market. Which will increase unemployment and put us in a nasty recession similar to Japan in the 1980s. Don't wish for what you don't want. It's surprising how many people don't know how economics works. Got to love people who think it's best for the Aussie worker when it will actually put the aussie worker broke.

Do you really think the 70s and 80s was better than what it was now when price protections were in place? I think not.

        • -1

@jared444: This is the most stupid comment of all. Housing market will crash due to 10% increase on low cost luxury goods, since how many people order their daily staples from abroad? You have the 10% increase now, deal with it, and stop crying please.

        • @FabMan:

You clearly don't know how inflation works. A 10% increase in low cost goods would increase inflation by 1-3%, a 1% increase has a huge impact on the economy. Based on your user pic maybe memes is a topic you're better suited for.

  • This or a 64gb 3.1 for ~$30??

    • +3

64GB 3.1 for $30 sounds good. Where is this being sold?

      • There's a few on ebay from sellers with 99-100% feedback

  • Got 2x 64gb from HN Bundall.

Maby 10-20 64gbs left that I could see.

    100+ 128gb on the floor.

  • I had one of the 32 gig Bar USB drives about a year ago but it died after a month so was returned to HN.

    • So what did Gerry said, after you'd returned the stick?

  • Curious what do people normally use a flash drive for?
