    …ah, the dream… D:

G-Sync and 100hz on a 3440x1440 panel. Thats what drives up the price. Gsync only works with NVIDIA graphics cards. You wouldnt buy this monitor unless you have a gaming rig with a very good graphics card which would be nearly on the same price range.

This is a gaming monitor, therefore gaming prices. Cant compare it normal monitors

Is that the sound of ignorance?

Grow up. What if we all did this to every deal we were not interested in, it would be flooded with your type of useless negativity.

        Whoosh

        • You should have thrown it better.

  • I've got the X34 and I love it

    HOWEVER

The backlight bleed is getting to me. Its pretty bad. Although I only notice it on "loading" screens of games. Something to keep in mind when chucking this much money on a monitor.

    • BLB or IPS glow?

If it's only noticeable during a black or dark loading screens then I think this is normal for IPS.

      Exmaple: http://i.imgur.com/OK4vjAy.jpg

      • normal for IPS.

the fact that some do more than others means that it’s not normal, but accepted.
Broken pixels were once accepted as normal.

  • Not a bad price.

    PG27UQ 27" 4K G-SYNC 144Hz is advertised around 3500 AUD in Australia.

    • Its supposed to retail for $1999 usd, so i dont think $3500 is the final price, it will propably be closer to $3k or abit less.

      • +3

Nope, at least the 1st batch will be coming in around $3500 and I doubt there are any plans to drop after that. Top end screens without competition in the market tend to set their own price. We have orders in with ASUS, and customers already have paid backorders with us for that 1st batch. Due in July at sell price $3499.

Not a cheap screen, but if you have the money and PC to match it I suppose.

        • So six grand for the BFGD displays?

  • Great price, my best pc purchase ever.

Good price, but note that this is native at 60hz and OVERCLOCKS to 100hz, so their item title is definitely misleading as YMMV on the overclock (as with the X34 first gen there have reports of flickering, scan lines etc after overclocking).

    • Correct. Mine goes to 90Hz. Anything more and I get some flickering at the top of the panel.

    • Correct. People are buying a 60Hz monitor that may overclock to 100Hz.

The lowest overclock I've seen is 85Hz (only once on an x34), others more often report getting 90 or 95.

    • Luckily mine was able to get to 100hz, I've had the screen for 2 years now, back then I paid 1899. However, there is noticeable IPS glow (some people confuse it with backlight bleed)

Marketing people, I tell you. I actually wasn't aware myself that those panels don't always run without issue at the top Hz.

Its normal practice to quote the ideal number in this industry, and marketing in general eg cpus that refer to the turbo frequency but I like to be conservative in what we show — at least where it doesn't harm use vrs what competitors show, so i just removed the 100Hz from the title to save wrong assumption being made. It remains was correctly described in the specs and description, and always best making people read the detail and understand what they are buying.

      ..Adam

      • Title still has 100Hz.

        • Not on our main site or eBay, maybe you are looking ata cached version.

    • Thanks for pointing that out, hard pass for me then. I'm waiting for a sale on the AW3418DW.

  • clicked the link thinking it was $189.15…Bargin !!!

    • -1

I was just about to write the same, I was freaking out trying to find my bank card to order until I saw that extra 1.

  • This or X34?
    HN selling X34 for $1098

    • x34 is superior

  • I'd prefer a 16:9 34" monitor (or even a 32") these new 4k screens at 27" are going to look tiny

  • +1

This is basically my dream monitor. Now that it's down to a price I could hit the button on I'm getting reservations :) So… with the wide aspect and 4K res, that means if I'm watching 16:9 4K content it's going to be scaled to effectively 2560x1440 and side boxes.

    • have you see this
      https://www.dell.com/en-au/work/shop/alienware-34-curved-gam…
native 100hz panel that overclocks to 120

      • Ah didn't know this existed.

But it's the same format, twice the price, and no better specs apart from 4ms vs 5ms and 120 vs 100Hz

        https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/monitors/alienwa…

        • but its 4ms!

        • It was around the $1500 mark delivered when it was on sale last month (after cash rewards) so it's not that much more. My reasoning was I'd rather pay the little bit extra for a new model as the ASUS is getting pretty old.

          Also, it's not 100hz vs 120hz, it's:

Alienware: 100hz native oc to 120hz (stable)
Asus: 60hz native oc to 100hz (could be 90-95hz depending on panel lottery)

  • I have this monitor and it's pretty darn good. Only gripe I have with it is having to go into the menu's to switch Input from Display Port to HDMI.. eg, when switching from PC to the PlayStation. It isn't 4K, which is kind of a good thing as even an OC'd 1080ti (which I have) won't do 100fps (which is the G'sync capability of this monitor) when on max detail settings in 4k. At the res this screen provides, well optimised games stay close to 100fps with close to max detail settings.. it's all about a smooth FPS for me.

  • i dont like the stand, stand should be curved also. otherwise i would buy.

    i want this

    LG UC99 34"(21:09) Curved Wide Ips, 3440X1440, 5MS, HDMI, D/Port, USB-C, H/ADJ, VESA, 3YR

    • Freesync.. Only good for AMD cards. If your running an Nvidia and game, you really want a gsync screen

    • I'm not keen on the stand either but I'm likely going to use a monitor arm. This thing only weighs 10kg

  • I have an Acer X34 I nabbed last year from Harvey's after getting the price down to 1200. I was a little hesitant with the looming HDR 4K Gsync panels, but after seeing their prices I'm glad I grabbed an Ultrawide. Can easy recommend the Acer and Asus even though the 100Hz is not guaranteed and the IPS glow issues. I might have gotten lucky, but I don't really notice the glow on a black screen, even in a dark room.

It was a nice upgrade from my Asus TN Swift and even from a 43" 4K HDR VA TV.

I'd recommend a GTX 1080 and up for 3440x1440, even with g-sync, otherwise 2560x1080 might give a smoother experience (cheaper too).
