Eaton 5E Line Interactive 650VA UPS $63.20 Delivered (eBay Plus) - Shopping Express

80
PASSCODE

Seems like a good price for a very basic UPS to use at home. Won't keep devices powered for long, but should be enough to keep my file server and router running through occasional power blips.
Looks like $89 + shipping elsewhere.

Edit 25/6: Now even cheaper with PASSCODE 20% off. Need eBay plus membership for free shipping, but something tells me all ozbargainers are running on the free 2 month trial at the moment :)

  • Should keep a computer powered long enough to save everything and shut it down properly so well worth it.

    • There is also nothing stopping you from connecting it to an enormous battery for longer run time.

      • +1

What's stopping you from using a different battery than specified? The lack of warranty, the lack of size inside the case, the product data sheet warning against, and an enormous battery is not free.

  • Shame it doesn't have a USB interface to control the PC if you are not at home when the power failure occurs and the PC is on.

    • +1

The exact model is 5E650IUSB-au and the product description shows a USB port, so I think it will have one, even if the first image doesn't show it. The official specs are here: http://powerquality.eaton.com/5E650iUSB-AU.aspx?cx=22

It is an Interactive UPS, so it does have a USB interface. See the last picture in the eBay listing or look up the model.

      • +1

The interactive part refers it being line interactive, meaning it can apply automatic voltage regulation without switching to battery (unlike a standby UPS)

    • Shouldn't really be plugging a PC into a stepped/modulated UPS anyway

I have one of these connected to my ROG G751JY and QNAP SS-453S.

It does a good job to clean up the 240V 60HZ wave form for the ASUS power supply, and the NAS has 45 minutes to perform its powerloss procedure.

    Got mine from MSY

The USB interface is 3rd party,(not Eaton) but will be recognized as a UPS and the controller is by Innotech..

Be aware that on the two units I have, the output voltage occasionally drops from ≈240 to ≈208 volts, even when the input voltage is stable. Apparently that's normal as it's within their 15% tolerance. Doesn't seem to affect things, and apart from that they're great little units. USB is type B (i.e. old printer cable).

  • How does this Belkin compare to the Eaton with a 3 year warranty?

    https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Belkin-Line-Interactive-UPS-4-Outl…

    • +1

I imagine it will be similar in use with similar size batteries. Belkin has better warranty but from what I could see it has IEC power sockets rather than regular AU power sockets. Personal preference but I have always found it annoying when UPSs have IEC sockets.

  • Sine wave? specs doesn't mention it.

    • Not at this price point.
(It's also specified in the manual)

  • It also has a fan that runs 24x7 FYI

    • Thanks for the info,

Was gonna have this in my bedroom with my PC :/

I think the sound will certainly get to me.

    • You sure about that? I have one, it is fanless.
      Specs may have changed though.

      • I had an older one and that had a fan :( Didn't realise when purchasing. I ended up replacing it with a 5S because it was in my bedroom. Can't remember the capacity though, it may have been more than 850VA.

    • +1

I'm also fairly certain that the 650 and the 850 are both fanless. I don't believe this would have changed.

    • Eaton 5E brochure says "650 & 850VA models have no fan so are perfect for deployment at an operators workstation, where fan noise can be an issue."

  • How long is the runtime if I connected an NBN modem, router and 2 wireless camera. My electrical box is outside so if someone swicthes off my electricity my security cameras still working.

    • Enough time to watch them get in and probably see most of the stuff they steal.
I assume you save the footage to the cloud? Would be a shame to watch them take the HDDs with the footage on it as well.

      • I'm thinking of syncing up my cctv to 3 different hidden locations in my house with gigabit ethernet to each.

Then syncing pics to cloud…. lol if they manage to have enough time to look for all the copies in the house then kudos to them.

On average a thief only really spends less than 10min in a house unless your place is secluded and risk of being caught is very minimal.

They are suprisingly quick and usually only look for cash and jewelry.

    • Add up their wattage and do the maths

    • Lower efficiency at low loads, so note it isn't linear. Should be a runtime chart on Eaton's site.

    • Runtime for 100W load is stated at 16 mins.

  • Disregard - duplicate comment

  • Can this be used for router and opticomm modem? Need a backup power in case my electricity is cut outside…

    • +1

It can be used for anything that runs off power and is under 650VA (360W) continuous/peak load.

  • 20% off after 10am today! :)

    • Even better! Why did I fall for only 15% off.

  • Hasn't caused me any problems so far, but of all the UPSes I've purchased online over the years, I haven't received a single one that wasn't months past its "charge by" date. Anyone ever demanded a return on that basis? I'm under the impression that ignoring it is the norm.

Dodgy deals, they marked this out of stock and re listed at 105$ :(
