  • Just what everyone wants in feedback (reviews)
"Not as good as I'd hoped"

    • +3

yeah, well if you read the rest of her "review", she was expecting it to replace her 15" laptop…

"I received my eeepc a week ago and, after downsizing from a fullsize 15" laptop, am slowly getting used to the small screen and reduced number of keys."

and she also seemed keen to hook it up to a dvd drive since that's what she was used to with the 15" laptop.

I have to agree with her saying that it's not a 9 hour battery life. It's the 3 cell model, not the 6 cell, which is outlined in the specs.

  • Great deal :) I'm quite tempted, although that model has been around for ages (pretty dated) and I don't really need it :( However if you need some kind of stylish portable laptop its worth the price & it comes with Windows 7 Starter

    +1 anyway

  • Good Find

I like the question marks in the description.

    • lol, i just copied and pasted from big w

  • +3

cotd is having a (supposedly) subscriber only sale on 10inch EEPC for $299 + shipping

It includes 250GB HD, wireless b/g/n and 6 cell battery

I have no idea how it compares to the big W PC - or whether it represents worse/same/better value but thought i would link to it so buyers can have the choice

    • Yeah I think you picked the main differences. I wouldn't let the hard drive size or wifi N sway you too much, so for anyone comparing I guess it's just a question of what battery life you want. Still, these small netbooks don't consume that much power anyway, and it seems that you can get 4+ hours of battery with this one. I had a 10" Asus like this and I recall that it could get to 5 hours on 3 cells for just word processing/web.

Gotta wonder though about cosmetic differences, such as the thickness of each and just the appearance and screen types.

  • Not really a comment about this particular deal, I bought one from cotd last oct, about a week ago it started smoking from the side vents, doesn't work now. Organising a service inspection from asus directly.

    • +3

holy shit.. ur laptop literally is "smoking hot"!

    • Was it sitting it on your lap or soft material, blocking lower vents?

They may not warrant it if overheated!

  • +1

    apparently quite hackingtoshable

  • Good of this one = matt screen, nice design

Bad of this one = no bluettoth, 3-cell battery

  • How long do we think a 3 cell would last?

    • It's around 4-5 hours

6 cell is around 8-9, but is heavier and sticks out the back (because there are more cells of course)

      • +1

I've got this netbook with the 6 cell battery ordered from COTD in June. It's heavier but the battery does not stick out the back like other netbooks.

        • Alrighty, my bad then.

Every other laptop I've owned at work have had 6 cell batteries that stick out the back.

      • Can I buy a 6 cell battery after market? Or would it cost about half of the laptop itself?

Also would it be easy to add another gig of RAM?

        • I quickly looked on eBay, and they're around $50?

I wish I could help you some more but I don't have the laptop yet.

Some people prefer the 6 cell since they're going to be away from power, but I just needed a cheap and light laptop to take overseas. I can always plug it in at my grandma's house :)

        • If you want a 6-cell get this. http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/smallfish_info.php?products_…

It has wireless N and a 250 gig drive too.

To upgrade to 2gb you'll need a 2gb stick to replace the existing one. There's only 1 ram slot.

      • Interestingly the BIg W website quotes …."ASUS exclusive Super Hybrid Engine energy management technology to deliver up to 9 hours of battery life on a single charge"
Do they mean with the extra batteries??

        • They mean up to 9 hours with Wireless disabled, the unit using an aggressive power-save mode (ie: sleep after 1-2 minutes), the video screen turned down to minimum, and not processing video, flash, anti-virus scan, or any other background process.

We have a 6-cell Lenovo and if the setting are set "realistically" and we are actually using the thing as a laptop surfing he net, checking emails etc, we get about 5 hours from it… which means a 3-cell would give 2-3 hours in the REAL world.

It's just like an iPhone… if you use them for anything other than telephone calls, the battery life drops dramatically.

  • the big w one is definitely no wireless n?

    • My 1001PX definitely doesn't.

      • thanks mate.. bit of a shame when the eM350 has n

    • Connectivity ?
      Wireless WLAN 802.11b/g @2.4GHz
See specs on big w website it does.

      • yeah mate i was asking about n..

        • Excuse my ignorance I learnt something new,g n wireless faster and stronger signal.

  • +1

It doesn't seem to be coming up with the 10% off.
It is coming with $268 at checkout.

    • apply the code… works for me..

      • Passed midnight too late for 10% discount.

    • you may be a minute too late - think it ends midnight sydney time - not sure

  • is it black only? think theres a white model but dunno if Big W sells that colour

  • Anyone know if you can still get these ebooks for $200 anywhere?
I need to get one by March. So, not sure whether its worthwhile to wait for it.

    • Amazon has these Netbook's for around the same price, but i think it doesn't include free shipping.

  • hold your horses for those who want to buy this!!!!

got this one just recently.. everything was fine. tried to use the other partition and was able to install linux -kubuntu on it (dual boot).. working perfectly fine for the past few weeks then last night the keys BACKSPACE, DEL, ENTER and C, are NOT working so I am not very happy.. I tried the recovery for windows to see if it will make any difference and it's still the same.. so much hassle without those important keys.. I'm going to return it and see what will happen.
