Discounted eBay gift cards - what are they from?

I notice people selling and trying to buy discounted eBay gift cards. Where did they come from? Where have they been all my life?

Woolworths, 5% off using egiftcards as a standard.

Im sure you can get greater discount on the forums etc

    • Ok, that's helpful. So are eBay gift cards sold at Woolies, dollar for dollar (ie pay $100 for a $100 eBay card)?

Is that where people are buying them, to sell them on forums??

      • Don't know about the forums… But yes dollar for dollar. There's no activation fee like Visa giftcards

So for example buy $100 woolies egiftcard for $95 then use that to buy $100 ebay giftcard.

        • So that makes a 5% discount possible.

It looks like people are selling eBay gift cards for 7-8% off. Do you think they accidentally bought too much or were given them, and need to offload them at a loss?

@Cheemeister: Some maybe got it from here, or here. And some sellers subside the addition percent to buyers, but in the process they earn frequent flyer reward points.

        • @O O: Wow, those were good deals! OK, makes sense now, thanks.

    lol

  • I feel like Ebay gift cards are starting to dry up, or the few woolworths around me are just too lazy to stock them up.

Haven't seen new ones for a month.

  • Can you stack the eBay giftcards when making eBay purchases? And if so, how many can you stack?

    • I think I read somewhere someone successfully using 7 gift cards in one purchase. shrug

        In their T&C

6 No more than a total of $2000 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per day, and no more than a total of $5000 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per calendar month. Further, you may only redeem a maximum of eight Gift Cards in any single transaction (and fewer if you are redeeming Gift Cards in combination with other redemption codes, such as coupons or vouchers).

Officially, 8 gift cards in one purchase. But, was reported to be able to use more than 8.

I need to pay $3300 for 1 item. Can I use more than $2000 in giftcards?

    • You can use multiple ebay giftcards for purchases, yes.
Eg. if you're buying a $300 item, you can buy 3x $100 ebay giftcards from woolies (or wherever) and use each of them. I don't know how many you can stack.

Just be careful with ebay gift cards:

    • any left over balance remaining on the card. Once a card is partially used, it can only be used by that ebay account (security measure).
    • There have been some people who've reported that the balance may not necessarily be on the card you THINK (ie not necessarily on the last card you use). I don't know how true this is - but I've read it somewhere on this forum.
    • Any refunds you requst will be back onto the card , so don't throw them out after you've used them unless you know 100% the goods are received and there are no issues with it.
  • Can you buy eBay gift cards using WISH gift cards at the self-serve checkouts?

    • Yes you can.

  • Now woolies does not allow buying gift card using gift card, is there any other way that i can buy discounted ebay gift card rather than waiting for occasional discount code?

    • OzBargain Classifieds - usually from people getting it off a 10% off via rare ebay sales, and splitting the discount as a profit with people on Ozbargain by selling it at 5% off or somewhere around there

      • is there anyway to guarantee that the selling is genuine or it is at my own risk? am i able to get the fund back when using paypal f&f if i didn't receive the giftcard? or how can i determine the seller is genuine? sorry im new here & was offered to buy some giftcards & never ever done it before.

          At your own risk.

am i able to get the fund back when using paypal f&f if i didn't receive the giftcard?

          Paypayl F&F - no

or how can i determine the seller is genuine? sorry im new here & was offered to buy some giftcards & never ever done it before.

Check the history of the seller on OzBargain (How old are they? How many posts/comments do they have? How many successful transactions have they carried out in the past? How active on ozbargain are they?)
Unless they get hacked (very possible too), most older ozbargainers will not risk a couple of dollars to tarnish their reputation.

Click on their (you can click on yours) and you will be able to check.

For example, this is yours. For me, I would make a judgement call based on my own thoughts of the user.
I would also gauge their transparency level of the source of their gift cards (if they have nothing to hide they shouldn't need to keep their source secret?)
