Many customers didn't have good experiences in the last few weeks.

    • woah… just woah… thx for sharing~

      yes, avoid at all cost!
some previous buyers will -ves this deal soon :)

  • Just curious what are peoples thought between the G3 Station and the Samsung Story.
Since I use a lot of space I was thinking the Story would stack up on top of each other easy. But I'm not entirely sure if this is the case.

    • +1

the story ones…they don't stack up perfectly as you would imagine, I tried it myself, they are not designed to sit over each other.

    • I have 4 of them. They work fine, but they can't be stacked. I don't know why Samsung put such a stupid design on the sides. It makes cleaning and stacking impossible. They do sit together side by side okay though the bright lights will drive you mad in the end.

I wouldn't buy from this store though. I just skimmed the threads and it's pretty horrible. You can pick the same drives up from other resellers for sub-$135.

  • I suppose if you buy it in person it shouldn't be too bad.. maybe?

My brother recently bought an IME 3 and a network cable from them (he doesn't seem to care about customer service until he gets burnt lol) without issue in person.

    • (if that is what you meant)

  • Anyone know if this is a online buy only?

  • No Thanks…..

  • i bought one and only paid $9 postage to NSW… there was an option for $18 but if you have a read you can select the $9 option… hard drive arrived in 3 day no problems at all! overall cost me $110 including credit card surcharge.

    • the $9 is for Victoria shipping only, but yes you can choose it and they probably will not process the order when they find out it's going to NSW, but I guess you were lucky!

  • the deal is OK, nothing to get excited about.

The enclosure is physically ugly in real life.
I has held it my hand once and never want to touch it again.

    you have been warned.
If you buy it, don't complain about the look.

    • +1

Hence why it's called a 'station'. A station isn't meant to be pretty, if it was it would of been called iDrive.

    • +1

It's a hard drive, not a runway fashion model. These are used for storage of computer data, who cares what they look like LOL

  • -2
    • err… you have given a link to a WP thread… with multiple people having no problems with it. Any model of hard drive is subject to have a low % fail , what's different about this one?

      • -1

The person who started it had a failed one and everyone on it (well almost everyone) was complaining about the slow transfer speeds.

        • +1

          "Strange, mine averages 20-25mb/s =\"
"I did a first-run test and transferred 1TB of data at 29Mb/s. Maybe you were transferring between two USB devices, which effectively halves the bandwidth available to them?

These are 5400RPM drives. Perfectly functional for data storage."

Not everybody. A few on each side, but if some managed to get the higher transfer speed, then something's different between the 2.

  • Good find, probably best for people in Vic though shipping doesn't appear too steep this time.

However, beware that this drives vibrates like crazy. I just used one a couple of days ago and my whole desk was trembling. I've used other 2TB external drives before, not to mention the few I put together myself and none had this vibrating issue. Vibrations like that surely must not be good for HDD longetivity!

The only experience I've had with these people has been negative. Doubt I'd ever buy from them.

    • +3

wow, your story fills me with tears. thanks for explaining your experience. I'll definitely never buy from them.

    • +1

Have bought quite a few times from Centrecom Hawthorn and Clayton, never any issues with them. I can't vouch for their online ordering process but no issues with walk-in purchases.

  • +1

Maybe they will say this deal is limited to 0 per customer and it is mentioned in the next newsletter ;)

    • Yeah those scumbags can claim anything.

I have used one of these for a year connected to a WDTV Live and it's still working fine. The only complaint I have is that it goes to sleep in only a short time of inactivity so you have to wait a few seconds for it to wake before it can be read/written to again. Would have preferred a longer period before it decides to go to sleep.

  • +1

Not much of a computer wiz but I own two of these units there's nothing wrong with them. Their not bad looking stacked side to side. Can confirm these units when hooked up to a media player (wdtv live) they go to sleep after very short period, that's good if you like to save on power bills and bad if you dont want to waist 5-6 seconds of your life waiting. Finally these Units transfer speeds vary from time to time, I get 15megs/sec some time on large transfer.

    Avoid at all costs.
This shop is not trust worthy, they held my money for 3 weeks and they are complete liars.
Judge for yourself. do yourself a favour and shop somewhere else.
and the REP didn’t even bother to respond to any of the complaints.
See my letter that I had to send 5 times and they never responded:

Am voting negative as whats the point if they advertise cheap prices and then you pay and they never send the item or your money back and then you spend 3 weeks calling them daily trying to get a response from those scumbags. A bargain they cant fulfill is not a good bargain.

Bought 1 today, luckily Centrecom is just 5 mins away from my workplace.

  • +1

I just got one of these yesterday. I think some consumers have had 'bad luck' with their drive.

I have been transferring files now for a few days and I have never seen it drop below 17.8MB/s. It is usually around 20MB/s. I can claim it's not 10MB/s, check to see if you're using USB 2.0.

Next issue was the noise and vibration. Someone claim it was loud and they could feel the table because of this HDD humming? Not sure which drive people are using because I can barely hear it and if it wasn't for the light on the front, I wouldn't even know it was on. Even when transferring files.

Loss of data? I probably haven't had it long enough to test that. But so far, I don't see this happening. In fact, I have never had a HDD that has. If you have, probably a bad drive out of a bunch. No problem transferring files either. It's most likely a bad drive.

It's a good HDD, but can't speak about the company selling it for this thread. Just here to cover some misleading information people might have heard.

  • I purchased this hard drive on Wednesday and made payment via bank deposit the same time and received an update today that the funds and received another update that the hard drive was posted out via TNT. So far it seems like a smooth transaction. I notice many people have had bad experiences. Maybe the operation has become better now?

    • +1

Received the hard drive without delay or any fuss. It's a shame bad reputation is hard to rebuild.
