Useless waste of money IMO better to get a GPS. Much safer and easier to get to unknown destinations.

I know your opinion is the general consensus nowadays but I love my Brisways (I actually use a Refedex but it's the same thing). I feel like I am actually learning the way to go when I look at it so I very rarely need to use it for the same destination more than once.

by just listening to directions i often find i havent really learned how i actually got to the destination.
at least with a melways or similar directory i find that i get a "memory map" picture in my head of how i got there.
      maybe its just me?

      • No, not just you :)
Also keep in mind that not everyone is tech savvy and do prefer to do things manually, hence looking up a Melway for directions.

      • No, def not just you! Much as I love my Nokia 'with maps' GPS phone, a paper map gets in your head somehow plus gives you a much better overview of a place.

      • You're not in the minority.

An actual study was performed on reliance on GPS and how it can have a negative effect on brain function.

Yeah but $34.95 is the regular price at BigW/Kmart and most other shops all the time…

  • at officeworks fountain gate yesterday, i think they were like $41 on "special" up the front
    so $34.95 sounds ok

  • this deal = average street price.

as for the arguements about Paper Map VS GPS : I prefers to use both.
I remember better with paper map while GPS would save me time whenever get lost.
(I can also PIMP my GPS with custom voice theme. Some of them are very funny)

I have to confest my Street Directory is from 1998
(lost some pages and the paper is getting brittle hehehe)

    • Some studies have shown using GPS on a regular basis causes memory problems. I don't have a Street Directory in my car atm, but it's always good to have one I think. GPS sometimes takes ages to lock on in my phone, and it's good to have a backup just in case something happens.
I have a library of '92, '93, '95, '96 and '97 Melways kicking around the house though, half of which were given to my family by others many years back.
