Ugly by name and ugly by nature. How is this on Damascus steel? Sharpeners like this can often mark it.

    • Hi, due to the guides on the Warthog it is not possible to mark a damascus steel blade. Thank you for your question.

    • i wouldn't use a pull through sharpener on an expensive knife. Buy a couple of whetstones and learn to hand sharpen or pick up some kind of guide whetstone system (like edgepro or lansky).

More info on sharpening on this classic egullet thread: https://forums.egullet.org/topic/26036-knife-maintenance-and…

  • ceramic knives can these be sharpened

    • We would not suggest using a Warthog to sharpen a ceramic knife. We would recommend a professional knife sharpener with correct equipment to sharpen your ceramic knives. Thank you for your question.

Interestingly, when you visit the "original" website with the South African contact, it says that they are going out of business, and says this - "Due to numerous customer complaints about product quality and reliability, we will be closing", which may explain why they are discounted ?

Maybe a case of buyer beware ?

  • This is not correct or accurate but thank you for your comment.

If you buy this and you want sharp knives, don't forget to factor in buying finer grade stones at $40+

    • What would you recommend instead of this?

    https://www.kitchenwarehouse.com.au/Global-MinoSharp-3-Ceram…

I have one of these mino sharp - however i also use Global knives so it is suited to it,

Gives a good edge quickly, and it also works on my 2 shun knives no problems.

I would wait for a good deal on it though.

Pretty fool proof as it has a guide system. and 3 stages

    • What do you call a good deal? Currently priced at $62.95. How much cheaper has it sold before this?
