      is there any effortless way to work out the GST and customs duty cost, I have never purchased an item from overseas of a value over $1000?

      How did you arrive at 15%? Gearbest are not withholding GST (10%) either.

        For goods imported in a consignment over A$1,000, any GST, customs duty and clearance charges will be charged to the importer at the border under existing processes.

          So if you had to send it off for repair, you would need to pay for the import tax and duty once it enters the county again?

          Thanks, but how does one conclude 15% for this? 10% makes sense, but the ~5% is not clearly mentioned anywhere, apart from 'duty' charges.

          @spriggan43: Not if you can show proof it left for warranty repairs. And best to include on the commercial invoice accompanying the goods on re-entry a remark stating it's a repair job.

        Thanks, helpful link. It looks like they take 5% as a flat rate and reduce as required/necessary. Would be good to know how the import duty is calculated.
