Amazon Prime Day 2018 General Discussion

Just creating a general discussion thread for the upcoming Amazon Prime Day on 16 July 2018. Please put all the Prime Day related discussions here, and other Prime Day related forum threads will be merged here. All Prime Day related deals will also be tagged Amazon Prime Day. I guess the main deal they are trying to push would be the Prime membership sign ups, as more and more Prime features will be released.

Interesting article in the SMH that says Amazon may be running foul of Australian "Bait Advertising" laws over their lightening deals. Some where apparently only up for a mater of seconds before "selling out".

I was a bit envious to hear of the PS4 deal after the fact. I've got to say that it would make me cancel my Prime Membership if I had paid for it as I don't think you should have to pay for a membership and be constantly refreshing the deals page to get a bargain.

If they have a sale it should be for everyone with membership, not only those who have close access to a computer.

Also, I thought Amazon was going to block access to Amazon.com but I can still log on and search for items. Eg the Nvidia shield is currently $USD179 and says that it ships to Australia (compared to $AUD500+ on .com.au). Was that just a threat or are they just dragging their feet?

PS4 deal was up for ages

A sale from a reputable company should last a few days at least. But my point is that if I had a paid subscription to amazon prime I would be disappointed if I missed out because I was away from my computer for a few hours.

    • it's a lucky dip i think the main site itself is blocked but individual sellers might still ship to australia

      • The nvidia shield is sold by Amazon on us site as far as I can tell.

im pretty sure the Nintendo Switch was a BAIT.. it was gone in less then a minute…

      • came back for around 5 minutes

I'm sure plenty of people on this site alone can attest to this isn't a bait and switch. I was able to click on the deal both days.

    • Amazon US is available to Australia, and you can buy stuff from Australia, you just can't deliver to Australia. It blocks at checkout time.

  • Only bought Assassins Creed for $20 and the tape for $1.20. Was tempted by the PS4 Pro and the Minecraft Xbox but kept reminding myself that I am in the market for an XBox X and there is no point grabbing an additional console. Some good deals though - I would have grabbed a bunch of games if I didn't already have them!

  • us deals could be gone in less than a hour but some of the au deal times are a joke.

just desperate to put something up cuz they got sweet fa.

Some items went quick… some hung around for a decent time.

Just because you didn't like the items on offer, doesn't mean that a lot didn't - many others including myself picked up quite a few things.

    • my point was the us store has more stock of specials than the au one.

if you want to take something different than that thats your choice. au prime day was an embarrassment to old amazon shoppers

  • I placed my orders around 9 am 17th with expedited delivery (1-2 Business days) and still have in my order details "Delivery date pending". Did anybody receive your orders made as part of the Amazon Prime Day 2018 ?

    • I've received my order of tissues, nappies and Echo dot yesterday at 6pm. Am receiving more nappies (fun) and a pots & pan set today. Those were all bought on Monday.

    • I’m with waiting for mine, bought Monday, and of course had prime.

      • Do you have delivery date set for your order ?

        • Not yet

    • Multiple orders across 2 days, all arrived as of yesterday.
Some packaged together and some individual packages.

    • I received my order of makeup items on Thursday. Purchased on first day of Prime Day. Disappointed it was just plonked in the mail box which is not locked and could have been taken. Was home all day and car in the drive. When I purchased Lodge items they delivered to me in person but obviously it was too large for mailbox. Surely if they delivered everything to a person it would surely cut down on lost items and claims for reimbursement.

  • Bring on more Prime days! :-)

    • What did you get from prime day?

  • Bitter sweet using prime account - got a great deal on first purchase a couple of weeks ago. It was something we actually needed, as opposed to "we didn't know we needed that", and it was delivered in three days to regional S.A.

The next two purchases no so good; both items cited "in stock" from Amazon Commercial Services Pty Ltd - tracking suggests goods will not be despatched until the end of next week :-(

    Disappointing.

amazon: how do we get free publicity?

marketing rep: have a huge build up to a sale, then put ridiculous time frames. boom! front cover of every news website for the next few days while also generating huge online discussions

    amazon: winner winner chicken dinner.

Well its obvious that you have never experienced the prime days from previous years.

  • Some good deals, some ok deals and a lot of junk deals, not bad.

Back to "lightening deals" on Wantdo puffer jackets and vests every hour till next year?

    • Haha ban Wantdo

  • GOt my order in 2 days. Love Amazon!

  • Pretty impressed. Doubt I'll keep my Prime membership but my experience was very good.

Picked up some incredibly cheap protein (arrived yesterday) and a PS4 game is due tomorrow. Happy days!

So yet another Prime order has missed its 2 day delivery window. According to the tracking, the package hasn't left Melbourne after 2.5 days (Fastway is the courier, absolute joke of a company).

I usually wouldn't be so padantic about this sort of stuff, but Amazon advertises the service to be foolproof. When you order, they liberally use the word "guaranteed" to describe the delivery date. On that day, the order changes to say "it's coming today", even though it's 8pm and the package is still in a different state. If you're going to advertise your service with this level of bravado, then I expect the service to live up to it. So far, it hasn't come close.

    • Yeah on the website they promised to deliver by 8pm last night for me but apparently the delivery's just arrived at 9am today. Not too fussed about it but I 'm a bit annoyed

    • Absolutely. Very annoying to see the word ‘guaranteed’, for them to fail on this and then offer no compensation.

I had to press the support representative and they extended my Prime membership by three months as a result. It really should have been offered in the first instance if they are as customer focused as they make out.

    • Interesting both my deliverys came a day early thursday , although i had arranged a friend to be at my place for friday's delivery .I was happy with the delivery time but unhappy with my impulse buying :-) bought a nintendo switch instead of a Xbox one 1TB , i'm pretty sure i can just return it unused for a refund ?.

Ordered 1 item on Mon 16th and another on Tue 17th. Received both items yesterday evening Thu 19th bundled in the same package. Very positive experience with the on-time delivery and impressed that such a large operation was able to bundle it in the one delivery. Think I will try out the Prime subscription for rest of the year.

    Location: Metro Sydney

  • Think I will try out the Prime subscription for rest of the year.

Yep same here, very happy with their delivery. The prime membership is not that expensive yet, specially with 50% Amex cash back…it's worth the money!

  • Can anyone confirm what happens if your purchase doesn't arrive in 2 days as per the Prime guarantee? In USA that gives you an additional month free on Prime. Is that the same case here?

Only asking because I ordered something yesterday and it's still not sent 24hrs later, I'll be amazed if that gets here within the promised timeframe now.

    • +1

Are you saying the item still has not been sent after you have ordered it 24 hours ago? The Prime benefits is that it should get to you within 2 days AFTER it has been shipped. I am in Perth, and I have been very amazed at how fast things are getting to me after they are shipped. I placed two orders last week, and the items have arrived in Perth within 2 business days. Previously I have had to wait close to a week. So there is definitely delivery speed improvement for us Perth people.

      • Ah got it, 2 days AFTER it has been shipped. Mine hasn't shipped yet, I misread the 2 day thing. All good, thanks.
