Here's a mini review for anyone who might be interested. I went and got one tonight without even opening the box, after seeing this post and visiting at closing time. Great buy for $20 if you're actually after a camping lantern.

    • They aren't in the regular torches section, and you'll find them in the discount section at Oakleigh, still plenty left as on 7pm Saturday.
    • There's only one colour (lime green) and it's a great choice for camping.
    • There are AAA NiMH rechargeables, included, in each of the split off torches. You don't have to worry about charging them separately according to the instructions, because they charge when docked through the main set of 4 D batteries, which are not included.
    • Only downside is that the LED torches do not have a dim mode, which might not be a bad thing considering how many times I've seen them badly implemented. Think of those torches that force you to press the power button 5 times to get to 'On'. 52 hours battery life on the maximum (and only) setting, 2.5 hours on each of the torches if you split them apart. Easily enough power to run a 4-night camping trip with restless kids.
    • I don't know how long the lantern will last, because they clip on to the base using a small plastic edge, and I know my two young kids will break this lantern apart in an instant if they were to fight over the lantern. Not likely to be a big issue because the lantern is only $20, and they split into two, and I only have two kids! (Ha ha) And I am fairly strict with my two.
    • It's a bit bulky, but it feels tough (considering it is $20) and aside from the concern about the clips breaking eventually, it's an awesome buy. 4/5.

@happyal Great you got one and good review. I was trying to find the cheap Gerni, but non. Already brought a torch from one of the previous months posts, but thought I'd return the favour. For $15 to $20 the torches in this price range are a no brainer just to even have around. Use ours all the time.
