No ATM Withdrawal Fees @ ANZ, Commonwealth, NAB and Westpac ATMs

22129

A reminder of these awesome deal and deal from almost a year ago, when CBA announced that they would drop ATM fees and the other big banks quickly followed suit.

There is no need to go around hunting your particular bank's ATM when you can find any of the big four banks'. This has been very convenient since.

Edit: I understand that a part of our community are with ING, who already get free ATM withdrawals from any ATM, and therefore this deal is not applicable to them. This deal appeals to those who do not have an ING bank account (or other banks with fee-free ATM withdrawals), cannot easily fulfill the monthly conditions (ie. $1000 monthly deposit and 5 x transactions) or financially better to bank with someone else due to mortgages etc. They don't have to do anything and immediately have access to a wider range of ATMs for free. While this deal does not benefit those who have ING as their main bank, it does not mean that this is not a deal.

        Why not 6?

  • +1

This has been the norm for a while now

    • +2

These banks, I think so. I got caught out just recently using one of the minor bank/cred unions. Got hit for $2.50 for a $20 withdrawal, lol. It's why I upvoted this deal - a reminder not all banking atm's are fee free.

  • What's with the sudden negs? Some people weren't aware of this the first time it was posted, and others forgot about it, so what's wrong if it reminds everyone about the deal? And mods don't seem to mind it. Looks like everyone is jumping on the negging wagon for the heck of it. Jeez!

    • Yep, kind of like swarming.

    • +1

      Its year old news.

  • +1

Sorry whats the deal? This 'fee free' is the every day rate.

  • +1

Available through every other reputable bank. Advertising.

    • Available through every other reputable bank

      Can you elaborate?

    • Insinuating that the big four are somehow reputable?

    • +1

Not all banks/credit unions have transaction free atms for non-members.

  • wtf

  • +1

OzBargain going down the drain - let’s post things that are free so we can go to the front page and feel better about our dull and unfulfilling lives.

    • +1

      that's a bit much

  • +2

Not a bargain, standard crap. Just posting this so I can neg too tho its been made clear - another waist of time :) .
Is there a way to stop seeing 'deals' once they get negged enough?

    • +3

It's not a complete waist of time. People have reported that they didn't know about it and therefore this deal reminder is actually hipful.

      • +1

        LOL hipful

      • +4

        That comment was kneeded.

        • +2

          Such a tailored response.

  • +1

Appreciate the intention however it is not a bargain. There's the ozbargain wiki and forums for these posts.

  • +2

This is not a bargain. Anyone banking with the big 4 on OzBargain isn't doing it right. Most other banks and Credit Unions are a better deal in most ways, such as fees and interest earned.

    • +1

      How about for Mortgages?

      • The rates are far better with other lenders than big 4 for mortgages too

  • +6

So shall I post an Ad that reminds pensioners they get a 10% energy subsidy that was launched 30 years ago? common

    • And cheap travel

    • +2

Yeah you probably should. I didn't know about that.

      • Neither..

Now I can get my mum to sign up for utilities on my behalf! If only I knew earlier

  • Let’s place a deal for free pens at nab branches, free lollies at their branches, free water at coffee shops, free tissues at fast food joints

    • How come no neg vote on this deal?

[DEAL ALERT] Free shopping trolley usage at Coles/Woolworths stores across Australia

A timely reminder to this awesome ongoing facility which has now become even more of a genuine 'deal' given the recent crackdown on single-use plastic bags by the supermarket chains. While they don't give you free shopping bags anymore, the trolley is still free to use.
(Note: ALDI uses the coin system which is sort of an extra hassle so I've excluded it from the post. Advance apologies all ALDI lovers).

    How to avail:
All you need to do is to put the items right back in the trolley after scanning and paying for them and take all your shopping directly to your car using this awesome ongoing deal. After this you can empty the trolly items either:
    1. Directly into the boot space
    2. Into the free shopping bags you got from this deal and/or this deal
    3. Into your spare household laundry basket kept in your boot (this is my preferred and recommended eco-friendly way)

After this all you need to do is to put the trolley back into nearest trolley bay and then someone will collect it from there (keeps them employed and keeps you happy i.e. a win-win).

There is no need to go around hunting your particular store's shopping bay (i.e. in case of ALDI etc.) or waste your hard earned money on shopping bags, when you can find any of the big two superstore's trolley bays located across the parking areas. This has been very convenient ongoing facility.

P.S. This is genuine deal reminder post and is no way a spoof comment inspired from this popular deal. In my humble opinion it deserves well over 100+ likes. Please show your love for all my efforts in bringing this to your attention ladies and gentlemen!

that was unpublished after how many seconds, exactly? :P

Haha, moderators can be quite moody aye! :P

  • Can you use the Cardless Cash option for non CBA ATMs?

    • A legitimate question in a sea of negs. Sorry I can't help you but I'm curious of the answer too.

    • Cardless Cash, AFAIK, is a feature specific to Commonwealth Bank accounts that only works with Commonwealth Bank ATMs.

      That means:

      • Commonwealth Bank account trying to using Cardless Cash from non-CBA ATM - no go
      • Non-Commonwealth Bank account trying to use Cardless Cash from CBA ATM - no go
      • Non-Commonwealth Bank account trying to use Cardless Cash from non-CBA ATM - no go
      • Commonwealth Bank account trying to using Cardless Cash from CBA ATM - go
  • I remember this coming out shortly after the changes to excess fees being charged for transactions, like the coffee shop charging you 50c for using eftpos.
I somewhat suspected that their lawyers told them that these fees were in breach of this new law so pulled the fees and sold it as customer service.
I’d be interested to see someone take this to those generic ATM providers who charge $2.50 a transaction.

  • +3

I don't think this post deserves so much negative votes.
I had no idea about this so thank you for posting :)

  • +5

I had no idea about this either thanks OP.

People need to start appreciating and stop hating. At some point you yourselves didn't know either.

    • -3

Nobody knew, until it was widely reported in every form of media, when suddenly everybody (excepting you) knew. And that was a year or so ago. Maybe there should be a separate section in OzBargain for people who live under rocks and like to be told about free things that are already free?

      • +1

Not everyone reads the news / looks at every deal on ozbargain.

        • +2

By that logic everything should be reposted every few weeks ad infinitum because at any point in time there will always be someone who chooses to remain ignorant and refuses to stay informed.

        • +3

          @xers:

By that logic everything should be reposted every few weeks

That is why there is a 6 month rule on re-posts. To stop duplicates, but allow people to know about the deal in the future, new users may join within that 6 month period.

        • +1

          @doweyy: But it's not a deal - it's just the status-quo.

        • @doweyy:
By that logic, you’re happy to see this exact same post and similar normal price but reminder posts come out as deals every 6 months until the end of time??

        • +3

          @1-Bargain:

I'd be happy to see this deal in 6 months time, as it saves me money I otherwise would have spent on those overpriced ATM's in pubs and clubs to get cash out if I wasn't using my Macquarie card at the time.

It saves people money, and as per the guidelines, can be posted after 6 months if someone wants to do it.

This deal went from genuine information sharing, to a place where people negged for fun. And it was sad to see, the bad side of OzB.

As an example, this deal has been running for >3 years at the same value and still is popular. I guess it's not worth posting because everyone must already know about it, right?

        • -1

          @doweyy:
          Sure. You have chosen.
How about those coles beef mince has dropped price by $1 a kilo since 2014? Let’s remind people that, so they do not need to buy them from local butcher shops at a more expensive price??
A lot of us don’t want to see that sort information posted as deals again and again every 6 months, and that’s what’s the neg votes are about.
Some deals are posted once is enough. Such as this one.

        • +5

          @1-Bargain:

If the deal poster thinks it's a bargain, they're welcome to post it?

Understandable that people might not want to see deals like this posted again. I was more eluding to the fact that >50% of the neg votes were invalid (E.G Only saying "Not a deal", "No deal", "What is this?") and thought this was fine to do.

It's not a fun time as a deal poster getting negged that hard, and seeing people invalidly negging that much was sad to see.

Sure, if the negs have actual reasons then it's fine, but it just fired me up a bit that nobody even wanted to substantiate their reasons are per the guidelines.

        • -2

@doweyy: Because you don't agree with all the neg voters means that their neg votes are invalid? Lol

        • +4

          @dcash:

What a ridiculous comment. No. It was because they were invalid as per the voting guidelines. Considering that you're insinuating I'm making up the rules, I doubt you've read them.

        • +4

          @Gandalf the Thrifty:

          From my original comment:

Sure, if the negs have actual reasons then it's fine

        • @dcash:

          But it's not a deal - it's just the status-quo.

          It was for Coles.

  • so redi atms are not free are they?

    • Definitely not. Avoid.

    • RediATMs have always been fee free to customers of NAB, though I think that may be changing (if it hasn't already), since anywhere you'll find a RediATM, you'll also find an ATM of one of the big four.

  • -1

ATM's are fee free ever day of the week, and have been for a long time. Therefore, I don't understand what the deal is. Could someone please explain how paying no fees is any better than paying no fees? And apparently I'm not allowed to down-vote this non-deal/non-bargain, so assume OzBargain has gone to the dogs and is no longer in any way related to bargains. Weird.

    • +5

Keep lying. Not all ATMs are fee free.

      • Obviously I was referring to the same big four banks that this post relates, which make up the majority of ATMs. No wonder you're so excited about a deal that isn't a deal at all, when you're as thick as bricks.

  • +3

It's sad to see the amount of invalid negs on this deal that were unpublished eventually, glad the mods are cleaning up all the crap. People think they can just say "no deal" and neg vote.

Thanks for posting ronnknee, I use a Macquarie card for free withdrawals but this is a good timely reminder for people who didn't know.

  • +2

Have not paid for ATM fees or international transaction fees for years.
This is nothing new. Just the old and greedy catching up with the present.

    • Why did you neg though? Just because it's nothing new doesn't mean you can neg.

Don't you want others to know about it?

      • +3

I'd suggest reading the other negs if my post isn't sufficient on its own.

"Don't you want others to know about it?" - Absolutely. However, if anywhere, this belongs in the forums.

        • +7

Are you saying that you decided to neg because others did? You can't use other member's negs to strengthen your own invalid neg vote. I'd suggest reading the "Voting Guidelines".

          this belongs in the forums.

This deal complies with the "Deal Posting Guidelines", I'd suggest reading them.

        • +2

… if anywhere, this belongs in the forums.

If that were so, Moderators would have moved it by now.

  • TIL: People still use ATMs. Curious what you use cash for (as opposed to a card) nowadays?

    • +2

My drug dealer won't accept a credit card.

    • +2

I eat cheap food. Cheap food usually means Chinese takeaway kinds of places/food courts. These places usually do not accept card.

Yes, it means I don't get points, but if my return from points is ~1%, and my meal costs $15 instead of $10, then I'm more than happy to save the $5 and just pay cash.

    • +2

When I go to Bunnings on weekends, the sausage stall outside doesn’t accept cards.

    • budgeting.
tap n' go is to quick, to easy, to convenient. You spend more than you need on useless landfill.

  • +1

Can someone explain to me why was my negative vote revoked please? I do not think this qualifies as a genuine deal hence the vote. Is this not allowed here?

    • Only the mods can really respond to you properly, but what exactly did your original comment say? "No deal"?

      • along those lines. No deal. Not happy. No real value. And the mods revoked it.

  • +2

Can the mod explain why was my negative vote revoked please?

    • I doubt whether they will, but one can intimate from the experience that posting non-deals is now kosher on OzBargain.

  • +5

⚠️ Can mods please explain why Trump is still president?

  • -1

Why is this a deal? This has been the case for a long time. People know about this already. I do not believe you should feel compelled to post it again. The ABC post is from 10 months ago.

  • Seriously, not only this is not new, it's at least 10 months old. We need to encourage genuine deal posts. Necro deals seem to be trending lately.

Anyway, do not take the negs personally, people.

  • ATMs are going to be like bread shops in Soviet Russia, free but hard to find and you'll be queuing to use them.

  • I'm not sure how many ATM's will be around given the number of ATM's the banks are removing. Margins are getting tighter.

  • Been free for over a year now, where's the bargain?

  • Nab still charges for withdrawal from transferwise
