Bitdefender Total Security 2019 (5 Devices) | 6 Months License for FREE

841

Found this while looking at Internet Security comparisons and kept seeing Bitdefender frequently at the top, came across this looking for a coupon. This one is from their own website too.

On the page from the link:

-Enter your email address.
-Click "I'm not a robot".
-You'll receive an email with an install link and the option to create an account or log-in.
The email you'll get will say it's the 2018 version for some reason which is incorrect; it's definitely 2019

It's great so far, not bloaty and really customisable with the UI and such. License is for up to 5 devices.
This is my first share so much love to OzBargain <3

Have a bloody good one mates.

MSE or whatever the built in system is should be sufficient for most users. If you want a highly configurable firewall, try Tinywall (which is just a lightweight GUI for the advanced features of Windows Firewall).

    edit: Not associated. Unintentional.

Tinywall is great, but many people can't work out how to use email so will probably struggle to understand the concept and application of white listing processes.

Never again, way too intrusive takes over half the computer. Ressource hungry

    • +9

You must have a potato for a PC if it's using half the ressoruses haha.

      • +5

Compared to other AV software, it's consistently rated at the top with regards to performance and protection. Currently falling off with usability though according to av-test.orga

+1 .I removed mine a while ago. Have an awesome PC but it still hogs resources.

      • +1

        Ressoruses? Pc is definitely prehistoric

    • +1

      Agreed. Way too intrusive.

For anyone who already has a sub - just checked - it doesn't stack.

    • +5

Doesn't stack but can replace your current sub if you're due to renew.
I had 60 days left on mine, and this upped me to 180 days, thanks OP.

How did you do that? I get this error - This code is a promotional code and can't be used to extend your current subscription. Did you have to uninstall and then repurchase with a different email address?

        • Same here. How'd you guys get around it?
If we do use another email address, is an uninstall required?

    • Thanks.
Luckily I still have over 2 years left. ;)

I have been using Bitdefender for a few years now with no problems. I probably don't really need it but it's just another layer of protection.

  • Or…. Avast free version, what I use, …. Won some awards and not so taxing on PC. But whatever… (Does have annoying pop ups but :P)

    • +2

Or just use Bitdefender free edition, uses the same engine as the paid one and doesn't have any popups.

Great software. My only gripe is with it constantly nagging to restart my computer, especially with its desire to notify me in the middle of games. Once it even kicked off a countdown timer of 5 minutes (IIRC) where a restart was enforced, possibly because I put off restarting after an update for too long. I'll restart my computer when I want to, dammit!

If it doesn't improve, I might switch to Kaspersky after my current sub expires.

    • Doesn't windows ten enforce reboots anyway?

      • I was able to prevent Windows 10 automatic reboots using https://www.udse.de/en/windows-10-reboot-blocker which is installed as a service, automatically changing the active hours time window for you. However I think with the latest builds of Windows 10 it's not as effective or as required - I don't think I've had an automatic reboot since, but do get prompted to restart now or snooze.

  • I couldn't get it to work on my current account. Ended up making a new one under a different email as my sub expires in 7 days. Cheers.

Guess that's not quite as bad as windows just restarting without asking! I mean, what is up with that!?

    • Get W10 Pro. You can customize some of its update behavior a little bit. Better than nothing.

      • So pay more to get the system as almost as usable as windows 7 was…

I didn't design the OS. It is what it is.

        • @lostn: I wish I designed it

edit: sorry for the necro reply, for some reason I got a notification which brought me here, so I though you just responded now…

It says "Bitdefender Internet Security 2019" and not Bitdefender Total Security 2019!!!

    • Ahh so it does - It is actually Total Security 2019 when you install it. Still weird though.

  • Is it considered a trial? Does it nag you to get the paid version?

Is the code pre-activated? Or can I wait till my current subscription runs out before entering the code?

    • OK, it seems there's no code to enter. You download something that is pre-activated, which means you can't save it for later use.

With these kind of downloads, there is normally nagware and you are treated as a trial user, not someone with a free "license". It's not a license if you're not treated as a customer but someone only sampling the goods.

I always uninstall AV software that treat me like that. Panda does it too. Free license for a year, but every day a pop up video ad comes up telling you your license is expiring and to purchase a license, even though there's still 11.5 months left until your "license" runs out.

I just stick to $7-8 per year Kaspersky licenses from SaveonIT or MSY. It's a very light IS suite.

  • Save your money imo. Didn’t pick up skycry where windows defender did.

  • Weird. I got only 30 days?

  • Somehow after uninstall and using a different email, I get 180 days now. Is there anywhere I can get this free for longer?

  • Also, this doesn't include the client for Android… Will only show give you the 14 day trial for Android installation
Got the full length on my PC though

  • unfortunately when I clicked the link I got;-
