  • Anyone not receiving the SMS code?

EDIT: NVM got it after about 5 minutes

    • Do you get a SMS to use?

or do you have to use the app instore to use the offer?

i ask because i dont got data on my phone

      • I believe you have to use the app which will require a data connection

      • how do you not have data?!!

  • +4

Can this only be used once?

    • +1

Yeah just once according to the fineprint

      • Used it and the code still available on the app.
Any one else have tried to purchase again using the same code?

  • -1

Booo to grill'd for putting staff on traineeships in burger management for years, intentionally slowing down their course completion ability just to be able to able to get wages lower than otherwise legally allowed. Boo Grill'd. I will not ever buy a item again, or eat a free item as this is one scummy business.

A bargain isn't such a bargain when the business has to thieve from staff to be able to get you that deal. You might as well go in and steal from the staffs purses and wallets.

    • +1

Any proof to this claim ?? It is a bargain still, even though I might not get around to buy it.

      • +6

Where is your proof? There was an article back in 2015 about ONE store that LEGALLY set up wage agreements in 2007 but it was agreed in 2015 that they needed to change which they did. What other evidence do you have that Grill'd as a company does this? Otherwise please don't slander organisations just because you have something to vent.

        • +2

          Replied to the wrong comment?

        • +2

@TheOneWhoKnocks: Sorry yes, meant to be for "My mum"

        • +5

Take with a grain of salt obviously as just word of mouth but I have known two people who have worked for Grill’d at seperate Melbourne locations (one left this year and one last). Both were pushed into programs (I believe they were labled apprenticeships) where they would get extra training and a qualification - the only catch being that they would be paid under the award. In reality there was no extra training and they were simply underpaid workers. Fairly dirty if true, young people - especially ones that are making their first entry into the workforce are obviously extremely exploitable and would seem they have been taken advantage of for their willingness to further their future employability and general naivety surrounding the system.

        • +1

@BlueLighting: If what they said is true then they should take action against Grill'd. It isnt that hard in this age and time, fb, insta and w/e not. Unless they are bound by an agreement >?

        • +3

@BlueLighting: This kind of crap is just routine in hospitality … I say that as someone who worked in that industy during the 90's.

The largest organisations are often the worst offenders such as luxury hotels.

I mean what do you expect when we voted in Liberals repeatedly and then Labour repeatedly after failing to do anything different to Liberal?

        • @Diji1:

As someone who knows people working in hospitality in 2018, it's still common. I'd say 50-75% of hospitality workers are underpaid, both within owner operator business, and franchises from large organisations.

What do you expect though when we (people) want (and expect) to eat out for cheap?

So 'my mum', you better eat at home and never eat out, if you want to ensure you're never supporting any business that underpays award wage.

        • +1

Why was it agreed that they needed to change it if it wasn't illegal? 7/11..Dominos are 2 other big corporations that should have their executives jailed.

        • +2

@Gay pride eggs: Please be reminded that in Australia CEOs need to be paid lots. Money doesn't grow on trees, but it can be taken from the lowly workers and just put it in your own pocket.

          https://www.smh.com.au/business/workplace/domino-s-pizza-bos…

        • +2

          @Diji1:

I worked at a large staffing company - it's pretty common across a lot of industries but restaurants are by far the worst. Awards are something you find a way to get around, not the standard pay. But it's so rampant that to compete a lot of places that should go under don't as a result, and we have more restaurants than the market can reasonably sustain.

Same way 7-eleven manage to keep open way more stores than makes sense, or why so many companies don't actually stop office workers that feel to "get ahead" they need to work 80 hour weeks that winds up less than minimum wage. No one really gives a shit about the workers.

      • +1

It's 100% true. It's true with nearly every franchise out there in food though.

    • +4

think uber eats and deliveroo deliverers probabaly do it tougher than grill’d staff for $ per hour and yet people are happy to order delivered food.

  • I got the updated app but can't see the offer anywhere? Trying to go and order something just crashes the app also..

    • +1

I found it in the notifications under the bell top right of screen.

      • Thank you!!

      • +1

Bugger, I've got the updated app but nothing in notifications.

    • I think it’s better to scan at the counter with the QR code

    • +1

How did you get the app from not crashing? I see the coupon but either closes itself or none of the buttons function.

      • Didn't end up fixing the crashing issues.. just going to try and use the QR code in store tonight, can you at least see the QR code?

        • Nope, nothing works. Tried clearing cache, clearing all app data, restarting phone, uninstall/reinstall. I'm running Android 6, Marshmellow, so maybe too old for this app. Definitely motivated now to flash my Axon 7 to get the latest Android updates.

Edit: Seems I'm not alone judging from the reviews on their App page and comments below.

        • @neil:

Yeah seems like that might be the case which is disappointing, this really isn't a good app.

Ordering definitely doesn't work even on the most up to date Android software, it just glitches on a white screen, doesn't seem like they've done much testing before releasing this.

        • @neil: not limited to android either. I’m on latest Apple firmware and can’t register. Crashes with Facebook and google registration.

        • @neil: just get a new phone mate, stop being a tight arse

        • @boostpak:

LOL, it's only 6 months old

  • +3

The 'order' page doesn't load in the app (white screen)
When they ask for your location, if you click 'deny', the app still tries to get your location (android 8.0 location prompt comes up).
The app also keeps requesting I turn Bluetooth on.

In the end, I won't be getting a free burger out of this, but I've given them my information.

    • -2

It seems like a dodgy deal, much to be expected from Grill'd. Lots of negs today, the Grill'd online team must be on Ozbargain.

      • +2

Yeah wow, I didn't expect to get neg'd on this one.
It wasn't a shit post, I was just trying to save people some hassle.
The app has a 1.5 star rating on google play.

        • I'm guessing to many glitches to have 1.5 rating

      • +3

So grill’d staff aren’t getting paid enough due a conspiracy in training but the same grill’d staff are also negging you for “speaking the truth”. How’s the tin foil hat going?

        • Probably owns/manages a franchise for a different fast food joint and feels threatened lol.

    • +5

Why are you getting downvoted for this? Because idotnotknowwhy…

    • Do you still get a free burger though if you deny location and bluetooth access?

      • yes, just need the coupon, the gps is so they can find the closest stores if you don’t know as “ part of the user experience” ….also so they know where you live for demographic data not just what your favourite store is.

bluetooth is often used for in store ordering eg maccas app or kfc app. so with grill’d it’s just bloat left by the code developers.

      • worked fine for me LG v20 android 7.1
you might need to turn phone on/off…..i had to on one of the version of the maccas app.

maccas and kfc app needs gps so they know what offers are in your area eg vic deals might not be in nsw or qld.

i haven’t seen grill’d deals that are store specific, usually seems it’s every store hence no gps needed, it just notifies of a deal.

  • got it thanks OP

  • Can probably stack this with the Westpac Credit card $5 cash back with $25 spend (targeted?)

Not sure if it will work tho.

    • Apparently that deal ended last weekend. That's what my mate said who has a card and works westpac.

  • +1

I hope this version of their shitty app works. It used to say store closed/invalid time when trying to order using the app

  • Does it have to be an existing account that updates or will a new account work?

    • Just made an account and it worked for me. Never had an account before either.

  • +2

Mine says dine-in only. Same for everyone else? If so, OP should update the subject.

    • +33

I just went. Took one dine in and one to go. But I ended up eating both there because I'm a fat $h*t.

    • +3

sometimes they are dine …. idea is hopefully you sit down also buy a drink …..take it home and you buy nothing extra …..you can bring your lunch box, put them in there and take them home if they won’t do take away ….do your part on the war on waste and packaging.

it’s designed to stop you getting 2 burgers , taking them home and feeding 2 people and using drink from the fridge at home …. i bring my own drink in stainless drink bottle anyway…heck 600 ml diet coke for 60c, .doing my part on the war on waste and one use drink containers :-)

      • Really…. you're going to take a lunchbox into grill'd to take a free burger home with you.. smh

  • +15

The Ozbargainers march in 2 by 2 hurrah hurrah..

    • Il be on my own with more food thanks :)

  • App doesn't seems very stable on my iPhone 7.. worst than Macca apps.

    • Be careful criticising their apps here

      • +2

        I don't know why.

    • really bad UX and stability, I will delete it once I redeem the QR code

  • +1

Grill'd Southern Cross (VIC) is doing a promo for Jeans for Genes day. Take a pic with a mate of the two of you arm wrestling out the front of the shop and get a voucher for a free burger with any purchase. No need for the app.

    • +1

      Any proof of this?

      • nothing other than the fact i just went and took advantage of it. I actually showed them the app coupon that had the BOGOF deal and they just gave me a coupon for the promo anyway.

Edit: They have a table set up for the arm wrestling and people standing around promoting the deal out the front

        • +3

Post the pic of arm wrestle

  • +6

    HEAL THY BURGERS

  • Installed app and for the 2 for 1

    Thanks OP!

  • Just got a free burger without buying anything…. Yay!!!

    • +1

      How?

      • newbie special for new user

      • +1

Me and a mate walked in prepared to buy one and get one free. Instead we just got a free burger each.

        • Using qr code?

        • +1

          @prmyab: yep

        • @prmyab: How does this work, you place an order first to get the QR Code? I just signed up for first time, maybe I can get a free burger to if I know how the steps are done.

  • +6

    Crash city for me…

  • +2

Is it just me or anyone else experiencing the same. Neither I get any notification when I open the App nor I see anything when I tap on bell on the right corner. App has all permissions. I have uninstalled and reinstalled as well.

    • I used to have this problem on my Xiaomi, now on Samsung and I don't but I reported the issue ages ago and I figured they fixed it with app updates. Maybe it's not working for certain devices?

      • I have this issue on an S7.

      • I have this issue on Galaxy S8. Well I guess I have to forget about it.

  • +2

Ok this is great. I called in ahead just taking my chance on a takeaway and store in moonee ponds (VIC) just asked me to order the burgers in store as takeaway. Win.

If ur like me - the takeaway eat two burgers in hiding sort then this is god send.

  • +1

If only they gave a free burger ever time the app crashes

  • how does the free burger work, do you get an identical burger of the one you order? and does it apply for any type of burger?

    • they charge for the most expensive one , you can mix or match 2 nd one up to the value.

  • I've never been there before.

But can anyone tell me why this 2 for 1 deal is so popular? Are their burgers amazing?

Since people vote before a deal is tested, I would have thought all those $10 off deals (Zeus St Greek, Soul Burger etc) or even the 5 for a $1 Mealpal deal would be seen as more of an OzBargainer's "something for nothing" wet dream.

    • +3

Their burgers are good and consistent. Never had a bad one.

They're not the best burgers but I'd say they're the best burgers from any chain.

      • Wow. Hopefully there's a freebie so I can try it one day.

        • +1

They're the defacto standard for quality burgers. There's much worse chains and much better independents.

They're also a social enterprise who donate to charities.

      • I prefer ribs n burgers over grill'd in terms of flavour but the quality is pretty similar.

  • wonder if i can buy 2 and get 2 free using just one QR code?

  • -1

    looks like it is Ozbargained

    app keeps getting a timeout

    • +1

Works for me. Valid to August 5 anyway!

  • Have downloaded app and registered a new account. Looked for the bell and nothing. Any suggestions?

    • Had to update my info online including DOB before it gave me a voucher on the app.

  • Pretty much got the voucher right away after registering on IPhone AND on a Oppo phone.

  • +1

I couldn't get the app to work and asked staff for help and was given the deal without a code.
The email that I received implied needed to register. They already had the email address but I couldn't log in and PW reset didn't work - kept sending the same code in SMS and then the app complained that it had expired…

  • +1

App is constantly crashing - very disappointing.

  • It keeps saying Enter valid mobile number. Any similar issue?

    Edit:Registered on their website.

  • Nope, no discount code for me. New user & new app, gave me nothing

    • me too waited for more than 3 days

      • Figured it out. Just make a change to your profile via the app. I switched to student and back and immediately received my voucher. Burgers for lunch today!

  • +1

Finally got the offer. I was updating the account info, registering phone number and then bam, got the voucher!
