For those of you that are interested in this price range soundbar, there are few options out there:

    LG SK10Y
    Samsung HW-K950

Based on my research, they said Sony is not providing that great Dolby Atmos effect as LG SK10Y. However, LG SK10Y is having that issues with midtone that sometimes make voice hard to hear.

For HW-K950, well I am not sure but it is 2 years old technology so I don't have much comparison from my research.

Here is a review comparison between LG SK10Y. He also did Sony one too. He will tell you around 4:30 mins mark.

    • Its a soundbar, its not going be great atmos as dedicated speakers

  • Personally would suggest a higher quality non Atmos bar than compromise on such a setup.

I've used up firing speakers and while they provide lift they aren't the same. Soundbar will only be worse with sound come from an even smaller source, particularly in a less than ideal room.

And if you are spending $1k on a soundbar, unless wife or room size is in charge, you are probably doing it wrong.

    • Which sound bar are you using as a reference - which one have you tested in your setup?

      • Have heard many. I enjoy audio. Including the LG and Samsung mentioned. The Samsung also had issues with Atmos signals and unsure if that's been fixed in the initial model.

But a soundbar will never be able to fully recreate that effect. At best it's akin to bumping up the treble and running a surround source mode. Anyone believing a bar will recreate in cieling speakers is kidding themselves and hasn't heard such a proper setup.

And glad I offended someone with a neg already.

        • It is the interwebs!

My old man got the LG, I thought it was a big waste of money when he told me. I watched Guardians of the Galaxy 4k on it, and I have to say it was truly amazing. The sound felt much more surrounding than other soundbars I have heard/owned including fidelios with removable rear speakers. It did create sounds that came from above very well also to the point that you would question if there were speakers in the ceiling.

I 100% agree that it would not sound as good as a proper atmos setup, but for the price, ease of setup and space required, you actually can't beat it. It sounded significantly better than my Sonos and Fidelio setup, and am quite jealous. Mind you, I have a full 7.1 Onkyo/sony amp setup in a box in my garage, and it sounds significantly better, but it's in the garage in a box with all it's cables etc waiting to be installed for over 3 years now.

RRP doesnt mean a thing for Sony audio products. In reality, you can get them for close to half price the RRP in 4 to 6 months if you keep an eye out

    Cheaper at Videopro

$992 - most places should be free delivery.

Also $949.05 Delivered @ Bing Lee eBay with eBay plus and PENNY5.

      • I would check that the Bing Lee offering includes the 2 rear speakers, as it's not clear from the listing that it does (unlike the Kogan and Videopro offers which do include them).

Edit: nvm, I think it does. In the specs it says 5.1 but the title reads 3.1 hence my initial concern.

  • Also on sale at JB hiFi for this price in case someone wanted to pickup one in-store:
