Anyone have experience or seen reviews for the offset smoker? I can't seem to find anything about it online.

    • +2

I own a few types of smokers..

Don't waste your money with one of these, they are terrible at controlling temps, use excessive amounts of fuel and will leak heat like a sieve.

Save your money and put it towards something decent.

      • What would you recommend? I already have a gas smoker from bunnings but that thing cannot hold a stable temp

        • If you're just starting off I recommend the komado style bbq, ProQ or weber smokey mountain.

If funds permit you can go straight to a decent pellet smoker.

Offset smokers are the hardest to master so I can't really recommend them to a beginner.

What's the quality of the rolling tool cabinet like?

    • Can't find much on this one, a previous model reviewed will however did seem more heavy duty

      • I'm looking at this too, would love a review.

Where's the pic for the bench grinder, angle grinder, etc in the title?

    • +2

Updated. Too many pics… Got mixed up.

Aldi sander is crap. I bought one last year and it blew up after 15 minutes of using it. Bought a Bosch sander and it never missed a beat in the last one year.

The angle grinder I bought a year or so ago has been very good, used mostly for concrete grinding. What isn't mentioned is that it is a variable speed grinder which otherwise don't exist anywhere near this price point.

    • Yeah that's a crazy good price. + 3yr warranty

So much good stuff this catalogue!

    • Pretty good report especially considering how you have used it & the variable speed aspect/option - thanks for adding Lucky.
Any thoughts on the 'angle grinder accessories' and/or 'angle grinders brackets set as noted/included by the OP?
Wondering if you might have also purchased?

    • +3

Not listed as variable speed in catalog.
      Check first to avoid disappointment!

General Warning: Aldi source from different suppliers & same description is given to different models. Past experience does not predict experience with current model.

      • Yes, I would have thought it was the same as the 125mm Ozito at Bunnings of course I just bought this this weekend. And it is not variable speed.

      • Checking variable speed is my first task in Saturday!

        • Ask if you can plug it in to test😁
          Happy shopping👍

          @Infidel:

It has a variable speed thumb wheel on the box and I have tested.

Also went to Supercheap, there were only 3 JCB tools left (current promotion). I will have to buy online.

I saw this deal, but wasn't sure what angle to work on.

  • +3

    .. waiting for Bunnings specials.

    • They already have the XU1 range which is cheaper :p

I have the XU1 angle grinder and its pretty good for $23.50 and the jigsaw is not bad either for the same price and looks the same as the aldi one.

The ozito Jigsaw is already $29.89

      • $23 is an ok price but, the Aldi angle grinder is far superior @ $29. Bunning's equivalent model one would be the Ozito @ $49

  • Has the solar shed light been sold before? any good?

    • +1

      Aldi solar shed light
Model may be slightly different to previous ones.
      Using 2 from last year's sale - great👍

    • Been using mine for years, still works well.

  • +1

Any one know those Angle brackets any good?

    • its just a piece of metal, what can go wrong?

      • +1

Not all steel is the same obviously, many different grades.

  • +1

Right the Bunnings Ozito has lowered the price on the jigsaw and the sander….

    https://pricehipster.com/?q=ozito&sortDirection=asc&sortFiel…

    • Does anyone know what the difference is between the $30 Ozito jigsaw (https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-680w-pendulum-jigsaw-with-…) and the $79 Ozito jigsaw which seems to be slightly less powerful (https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-620w-pendulum-jigsaw_p6290…).

      • tool-free adjustable base plate
pendulum selector with 4 different settings, allows faster cutting when you need it and ultimately helps to extend the blade longevity
        Dust Blower Function

I notice that both also have tool-free blade change mechanism, which mine doesn't have. My Ozito Jigsaw might be 3 or 4 years old now. It would have been the cheaper model at the time. I think I spent $40 on the last set of blades for metal/aluminium.

The motor power wouldn't make any difference as that is the input value, not the torque or actual performance.

So which of the power tools can I use without fright of losing a finger/hand?

    • Any is fine if you don't use them in an inebriated state.

      • +1

Angle grinders are the most dangerous power tool. More injuries and deaths from them than chainsaws.

People have been killed and others almost killed when the blade or disc shatters and shrapnel hits them in the neck, chest, groin or legs. This leads to rapid blood loss and you can die very quickly.

They are used for many different tasks, but the guards offer very little protection and I have heard of guards being breached.

At minimum you should have a face guard, tight fitting eye protection and hearing protection. I have still had stuff come up under the face guard.

        • +1

Happened to a family member of mine, he was VERY lucky not to be severely injured. NEVER use cheap disks.

        • @dtpearson:

Even good quality discs that are used incorrectly or when worn out will fail.

  • 150W motor for a bench grinder seems too low?

    • +2

yeah it's pretty low power - will still be great if you want make some shivs from random house stuff (tooth brushes, spoons) from stuff you can fit in the ol' prison wallet.

      • -1

I don't think you're allowed to use the term "wallet" if you can fit a bench grinder in it … Maybe "ruck sack"?

      • lol random

  • Wonder if the tool chest and rolling tool cabinet is any good. The Bunnings version comes in red colour only.
