Favourite discontinued food

What's your favorite discontinued food you miss most.

Mine is Cadbury Whip, tasted so much better than Mars.

Used to buy 10 or 20 in one go when they were on special for$1 each.

Starburst Squirtz was what I had everytime going to the movies as a kid. Calippo Shots were always childhood in like 2000.

Oh and the old Paddle Pops.

    • +3

      Starburst Squirtz

      Did they actually squirt.

      • +3

Yes you squeezed them like a pimple with enough force.

        • +1

They still got these in the USA, was my go-to car snack for long drives

        • +27

i make them squirt with my tongue

    • +2

Wait, squirtz don't exist anymore?! Man I don't buy lollies very much anymore

      • Disappeared years ago. The Natural Confectionery Co had these Berry Bliss which were the similar but no where near the same. I think overseas Starburst released some Jellybaby versions.

        • +1

The jelly babies with goo in them are available here, just don't expect much. They're standard GBs with a drop of liquid in them. The squirts were loaded with the delicious nectar.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who misses them. From memory they came in a plastic tray. If that's true I imagine it wasn't worth the expense.

        • +1

@RolandWaites: Really? I've never seen them! Yep they came in small and large plastic trays. Disappointing they don't just stick them in a bag. The tiny drop would be cheaper for then.

    • Starburst Squirtz was what I had everytime going to the movies as a kid.

      Loved them.

      Unless you sat on one.

    • Paddle Pops don't exist?

EDIT: You said original. Not sure I know what they are.

      • +1

I didn't say that. Paddle Pops changed their formulas 6 years ago and don't taste as good.

        • Sorry, old. I wasn't aware they changed.

When I was a kid my favourite cereal discontinued, it was called Grinnies or something, was little honeycomb cereal in the shape of little faces with a smug grin.

    • +4

Same! They were called Grinners and I still miss them to this day. :(

The ad for them was great too: https://youtu.be/qbi9pNvjJM4?t=29s

      • that ad is terrible, wow,

interesting where the little Grinner went looking for honey,

        • Hey now that was cutting edge 3D graphics in the 1990's! :P

Yeah I never noticed the honey counter on the top goes up one when he opens the door and a woman screams lol.

      • Nostalgia hit me hard with that one! 34YO and despite hearing/seeing that for 20+ years, I could recite it like a movie producer! Thanks for the share.

    • Cool ad, reminds me of the yak bak ads.

  • +4

The original Barney Bananas, not this corpse in its place.

    Apple & Cinnamon pop tarts.

    Doritos 3Ds

    • My local reject shop sells tons of these. These and Smores flavour.

    • +1

Yep, the original Barney Bananas. Was so happy to hear they were coming back … was so disappointed with the result.

    • My Mum used to eat those original Barney Bananas and I thought they tasted like they had alcohol in them….probably why she liked them!

  • +4

    Do drinks count?

    Not Orange V

    • +2

I really liked red v. Used to get 2 at the servo for $5 or something.

    • Not-Orange V was one of the all-time best energy drink flavours - I created a FB group for Apple staff, and used a pic of the can as the group pic haha!!

    • Not Orange was amazing, I miss Mother Green Storm the most though. Still have two lonely cans sitting in the cupboard.

      • Drink them lol, they will lose their fizz eventually.

    • Best V flavour ever.

    • Nopes.. And now you go to Jail.

  • +1

Golden Crumpet Toast and Cadbury Golden Biscuit Crunch. Miss them both so much lol.

    • I miss the Cadbury soft centre dessert range, namely the tira misu and creme bruleé.

  • +1

Hubba Bubba big bubbles no troubles.
    Tab cola and vincent

    • Tab cola was awesome.

      Same era as mellow yellow.

      • +3

Tab was great! What about Leed lemonade? Best lemonade ever.

        • +1

          Yeah Leed was great.

        • From the ad, "You can drink it on your way to school". Not any longer!

      • can still buy tab soft drink in kiwi shops in Perth, hmm elle mcpherson, what an advert

    • +2

Hubba Bubba Orange! Best flavour and they stopped it!

      • I hate almost everything orange flavoured, except this. Damn I miss it.

  • +1

    Jolly Rancher candies…

Still available from some specialty shops but you used to be able to get them everywhere.

    • +4

I recall a story on reddit about jolly ranchers…

  • +5

About 12-14 years ago they had these Magnums which were lemon sorbet covered in like a white chocolate shell… man I was on those like a fat guy on a Magnum

    • -1

I'll take your word for it

    • +2

      "like a" ;)

    • +1

It was called “John Lemon”, from the 60s range of Magnums.

I remember having the Candy Warhol a few times (musk ice cream with white chocolate and pop-rocks coating) - it was bloody good.

Found this article on each of the flavours: http://sixthseal.com/2003/04/magnum-the-sixties-nine/

  • +1

    Vesta Chicken Supreme and Rice.
    Transformers icy-poles from the 80s.

  • +4

    O'Grady's au Gratin chips.
    Kellogs Komplete.

and dammit, I liked the country creams in assorted creams the best.

    • O'Grady's au Gratin chips…Oh how I loved thee..

    • +1

      Like Ruffles

    • +1

Jesus, dunno why my mum was so set on Komplete but I had the choice of either that or Sustain for the first twelve years of my life.

  • +2

Nobby's Nuts used to be available in a Thai chili flavour, and then they cancelled it from one day to the next. I was heartbroken. I even called up their head office to ask if they had any crates lying around. They said they wanted to just concentrate on normal salty peanuts instead.

  • +1

    Dorito 3Ds.

    Bega Cheese chips.

    Starburst Squirts.

    Pepsi Blue.

    Pokemon Marshmellow cereal.

    Mhmm, the taste of childhood.

    • +1

You can still buy Pepsi Blue, convenience store in Melbourne Central next to Coles by the train station has it.

    • I remember that Pokemon Ceral from the late 90s. From memory, the actual cereal tasted awful.

  • +16

    Polly Waffle's

    • +5

I used to float them in public swimming pools.

      • Spaulding! No!

        • +1

          It's no big deal.

    • I think you can get them at foreign food stores still?

      • would sadly only be an attempted copy, they discontinued them around 2009. I remember buying an entire box of them when I heard, sadly they are long since consumed, have tried a few of the imitations but have not found one that is decent.

    • Limited outlets - now made by Chocolate Works in Melbourne as "The Great Aussie Waffle Log"

    • God I miss the Polly Waffle, I came here to post it. Glad someone else feels the same

    • There was a chocolate place near us that used to sell "seconds" polywaffles. Tasted the same just not the right shape.

    • You can get an ice cream version…
      Nestle Polly Waffle tub

    • Daniel's Donuteria (Springvale and Hoppers Crossing in Melbourne) make their own version of the Polly Waffle every few weeks for $4. I thought it was a bit pricey but after I took a bite, I instantly new it was money well spent

    • +6

Tasty Toobs! The mofo's brought them back and then took them away again.

      • +2

I know right?! The bastards! They giveth and they taketh away! :(

    • +1

You just made me sad again. R.I.P TOOBS.

    • +1

Ahh Toobs how I miss you so.

    • +1

I was just reminiscing about Toobs the other day with a good mate. At least they still make Lolly Gobble Bliss Bombs

    • Ahh I have the sads now 😟

    • I loved them as a kid and, not knowing they were discontinued the first time around, was quite excited to hear they were returning to supermarket shelves.

      Never bought them though.

I thought that, much like pirated movies, taxes and household cleaning, others would pick up the shortfall. But society let me down.
