Favourite discontinued food

What's your favorite discontinued food you miss most.

Mine is Cadbury Whip, tasted so much better than Mars.

Used to buy 10 or 20 in one go when they were on special for$1 each.

      • +1

They stopped it in the early 1980s when they introduced nuggets. I also miss the dark meat nuggets.

        • oh.. ok. That long ago :(

        • Yuck. Dark meat nuggets always smelled/tasted weird like they were about to go off.

      • If you go far enough back, Red Rooster had Chicketti.

Scorched Peanut bar , my gosh they were delicious!

    • Wow…someone else who remembers McDonald’s Fried Chicken! Yellow box with brown writing on it right?

I thought they discontinued it because of Kentucky Fried Chicken was taking over the fried chicken market?

  • +2

Smith's Heinz ketchup flavour… though they bring it back occasionally.

  • Snack Packs (Old formula) these days they are too runny, may as well be yogo.
Chikadees chicken roundas! Similar to a pizza pocket but chicken and mayo (ish), bigger than mcains and just better.

    • Milo bars (from the 80's) not the crappy caramel ones they replaced them with
    • The old froot loops (when they had all the artificial colours in them)
    • Pollywaffles
    • The breakfast cereals Komplete and corn pops
    • The old froot loops (when they had all the artificial colours in them)

Remember years ago when they were voting on the new colour? Dark green, blue or white? Blue won but I'm not sure when they disappeared.

      • I don’t remember that! I took a photo about 8 years ago or so (I sell to stock image companies) will dig it up and post link here. Colours were so pretty.

        Old vs new

I loved the old colours - December 2006

        • And there are the blue! I think they stopped using artificial colours.

    • Corn pops!!

  • +16

Original Milo Bars. Still the best form of autoerotic asphyxiation.

  • +4

    Burger men chips!!

  • The old continental chicken curry when it was in a red pack pre 2006.
I think it was them or Maggi that did a chicken and corn pasta snack too in the late nineties that was great.

Also the golden spiced Buckeye Rum that was recently discontinued.

    • +1

You can recreate a pretty good knockoff for the chicken curry with powdered chicken stock, keens curry powder, butter milk and water

  • +2

    KFC Tender Roast

    • Yuck, yuck, YUCK - that chicken was AWFUL. Like it was microwaved.

  • +2

SFC (Southern Fried Chicken) Poppets. Can't seem to find the brand anywhere anymore.

Coles brand Garlic & Herb Tuna.

    Wispa Chocolate bars.

    British Sausage Company Pork Chipolatas.

All these gone within the last 12 months or so. Why does everything I like always get discontinued??

    • My local Coles still has SFC.

      • +1

Was thinking I would come to your local store and buy up stock but Alice Springs is about 3 days drive too many haha.

        • Where’s your sense of adventure? Haha

I was wondering why not much interests me in the chocolate aisle. Now I know - because Cadbury Whip is missing! I don't like Mars bars much either. I hate coffee and they add too much coffee to them. They're also too small. And milky ways are sickly. Whip was between Mars bars and milky way but better than both.

Scorched Peanut bar is another I miss.

I'm not sure if I ever had a Polly Waffle, but I think there's something similar in the 'international' section of Coles. I bought one several months ago. Although it had ~4 months left on the use by, it was stale and very ordinary. At my local Coles it's at the opposite end to every other chocolate bar type thing. I'm not sure why - I figured maybe it was due to angst between moslems and whoever eats the other foods, so they spaced them apart!? It's like all the New Zealand and UK chocolates, chips, and biscuits are at the checkout end, but this one chocolate bar is at the opposite end (with other things of course)… Anyone know why?

  • when i was a kid there was an ice cream called Uncle Sam
it was shaped like a hand giving a peace sign and it had red, white and blue ice cream covered in white chocolate delicious!

  • +3

Kettle Herb & Spice chips. I lived on them in the mid 90s

    • Yeah I was just reminiscing about these the other day!

    • Damn I miss these. They released the Mediterranean Spices flavour but it's just not the same.

  • Vegemite In A Biskit

  • +1

    Thirst Life Savers….I miss you

    • They were the best! I don’t think they even do the strawberry sundae ones anymore either :(

Hopefully the recent acquisition of the brand by Darrell Lea will see some of those classic flavours revived

  • +3

    Milo Chocolate Bars

    • +1

Oh man. My mouth and throat totally dried up just reading this.

  • +3

canned tuna that had dolphin, now its all dolphin free.

  • +1

Did no one like zig zags, or were they simply not marketed well?

Better than cheezels and MUCH better than twisties. How twisties is still on the shelves when zig zags are not is a mystery to me.

    Now I'm sad.

    • Goddamn these are the best - they melt in your mouth like nothing else. I honestly can't believe they got discontinued.

      • These made a comeback and are available at IGA

  • +5

    Hepatitis A frozen berries

    • +5

  • Cadbury Cherry Ripe in a Block

Levi Roots Reggae Reggae BBQ & Tomato Sauces

    Zumbo Choc Raspberry Tim Tams

Choc Coated Cream Puffs from both Woolworths and Coles

    • Can sell you a unopened bottle of the Levi Roots tomato haha

  • +7

Chilli Kettle Chips. The original hot recipe.

    • Yes! I agree.

      Now they're made for wusses.

    • I was devastated when they were discontinued. Then there was a facebook campaign to bring them back and they did. I'm just glad they still exist!

    • Hell yes! I remember crying tears of joy with every bite

  • +6

  • Noodle Man noodles, oriental flavour and beef

  • +1

120g fun-sized Violet Crumble bags. I used to always have one in my room's mini-fridge during my uni days. It looks like somebody recently made a petition to bring them back https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/bring-back-fun-sized-vio… lol.

Also one that went missing this year are the Coles $10 meals (there were pasta bakes, lasagna, shepherd pie etc.). They were perfect but now Coles only sell $7 versions which are half the size and are totally pointless as they aren't big enough for a meal. :/

  • +1

    Fat Frog (ice cream)

  • +1
    • So good

  • McCains Smiles

  • Scone toast!

  • I miss the nutri grain that was loaded with sugar. They've made it "healthy" and that's not what I bought nutri grain for. I also miss Homer Hudson, Digger flavour. It was anzac biscuits in honeycomb ice cream. RIP. Homer Hudson tried to make a comeback recently, but they came back with rubbish flavours

  • Where to start? Quattros, Doritos 3Ds, Tomato salsa shapes, Crispy chicken shapes, Tasty Jacks sour cream cheddar and bacon. It is a crime anyone of these items were discontinued.

We do sometimes get the McDonalds Caramel thickshake roughly every 8-10 years though.

    • You know, I had no idea Quattros were discontinued until today. I'm so disappointed.

  • +2

Magic Beans from the guy down the street

  • There was this one thing, I forgot the name but it was bloody awesome…

Lift plus energy drink. It was discontued early 2000s but had the best flavour of all the energy drinks around.

    • +1

You can still get these in New Zealand, if you are willing to make the trip over.

    • Not sure if they still do, but Mother, in a white can (I think it was called Revive?) tasted super similar - could even be the same thing (being the same company!)

  • O'Grady's chips

  • Iced coffee lactose free from my local Coles

Ice coffee thick shakes from maccas
