Any one owns the induction cooker? Any comments ?

  • +2

Bought one last time and have only used is about 5 times but it is sooooo much better than my last two portable induction cookers (Breville and Highlander). I still need to test it some more to find any quirks but I currently highly recommend it. It is kind of loud, probably louder than my previous ones.

I don't use the app since I am weird about all the permissions. The manual controls are simple enough to figure out with a few minutes of playing around.

GearBest tracking left a little to be desired but it turned up after about 3-4 weeks, I think.

I don't use the app since I am weird about all the permissions.

Those extra permissions are for all their smart home products. Smart speakers, light bulbs, door/window sensors, light sensors, voice control etc. So nothing to be too concerned about and you can deny those extra permissions if you need to.

      • Thanks but I don't feel I am missing out on any functionality that I need anyway.

    • Can you comment on the size of the induction area? I have a cheap induction cooker and, while it's much better than standard electric, the induction coil under the glass must only be about 12cm in diameter. When I put a 26cm pan on there it visibly heats the centre much more than the edges.

      • Product size (L x W x H): 26.50 x 26.50 x 7.00 cm / 10.43 x 10.43 x 2.76 inches

        10.43in ~ 26cm

This one still has that issue, although I think it could be more like 14cm. Haven't had a good enough look yet, so this is just a rough guess.

        • Thanks. So probably no point in upgrading.

I wouldn't be surprised if all the cheap ones used the same induction component inside.

          @macrocephalic:

Just reading the specs page and it has the note:

If you use other pots, please observe: pot contain iron material, the bottom is flat and the bottom diameter is not less than 12cm and not more than the heating zone

That may indicate that it is 12cm after all?

Still I think the level of control this unit provides makes the upgrade worth it for me. Also I think it cools itself down better and is less prone to needing to engage the overheat protection (keeping in mind I haven't used it a great deal yet).

    • Thanks for sharing. Sounds a good buy. Is it AU power plug?

      • +1

I think they are all the 2 parallel pin Chinese plugs (mine from GearBest ceratinly was), so you need an adapter or conversion. GearBest supplied me with a free AU adapter but it looked unsafe to me so I got one from OfficeWorks for $5 instead.

        • +1

I would not use an adaptor for a high power appliance. You should change the plug to be safe.

        • @manic:
          Even it is adequately rated?

At any rate, I do have the family sparky lined up to do this (for free) and they told me not to do it myself.

        • @bargainpersona:

You can use a travel adaptor, but it is quick & easy to do it properly, so safer and more reliable.
The plugs used to come with packaging with clear instructions, and guide for wire cutting and stripping.

Not long ago, it was normal for appliances to be sold without plugs in the UK, and people would fit them at home.
Kind of sad how some Australians have so few practical skills these days.

  • coupon for induction has expired for me?

    • Have asked the rep for another coupon, will let you know.

I bought one of these and it was dead on arrival. The problem with returning it to gearbest is that shipping to Hong Kong is expensive for this package weight and it's not worth it for them. They were offering me 50% of my purchase price refunded and I get to keep the broken unit. I don't understand that logic as a broken unit has no value to me. In the end they did the right thing by me and have sent a new unit. They did say this was exceptional circumstances even though it should be standard process. If only shipping was as cheap as what the Chinese have access to this wouldn't be such a headache.

As an alternative I recommend the Ikea induction cooker. It's not as high tech as this but it's local stock and works just fine.

    • Do the Ikea ones pulse?

      • yes

    • Did you buy using PayPal? Don't they cover return shipping in cases like this?

  • I bought this recently and absolutely love it.

Haven't worked out how to use the presets (I think there's options for boil, fry etc as well as custom presets). Just a matter of using Google translate app but haven't found it necessary,

I just turn it on, and adjust the temperature dial, 1 being lowest heat and 99 being highest heat.

    Very consistent and reliable.

It appears that you have to buy the pot separately.
