I have no interest in booking with Mantra after the way they handled this issue - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/37629

wow… thanks for the heads-up… I'll remember to never book at one of their properties…

reading through all the conditions above, gave me a headache too…

To be fair, that wasn't really Mantra who screwed people over, but "Entire Group". I can't imagine you'd have any trouble booking directly through the Mantra website.

But I suppose at the same time, if they allow companies like Entire Group to run dodgy dealings out of their hotels they'd have to expect the negative publicity.

What a fiasco! Thanks for helping fellow community members avoid these ass clowns.

That's no anything to do with Mantra. Entire Group aren't linked with Mantra. Apartments are owned by individual owners who can choose who they rent through. The Mantra buildings just have a majority of apartments are being rented through Mantra. Owners are free to rent them through other providers.

  • I got jibbed with Mantra with the whole QLD flood thing in Jan. Wouldn't offer me my money back :(

  • Good prices:

    Test booking
    Mantra 100 Exhibition, 1 bedroom
    Feb 20-21

    Mantra: $141.55
    Hotelscombined: $178.62

    21% difference in price

  • $256.50 for a Friday and Saturday night 2 weeks before Easter in Salt Beach (Gold Coast) with Breakfasts.
More than worth it booked direct with the hotel.

  • Mantra might get another visit from me if they had a pool at their Darwin hotel !

  • We stayed at mantra in paramatta and at the gold coast. We were quite happy with the service and standard of the room (although the AC in the mantra paramatta was a bit average). But at paramatta we were lucky to get a room at all so couldnt complain too much

  • i liked mantra hotel at gold coast

I have stayed in Mantra several times at different locations. I have found them to be excellent & would recommend them as a chain. I have never had any problems with a booking I have made online via their website, or through wotif.

However be aware that cheaper choices within the same city are cheaper for a reason. You are better off paying 15-20% more for the more upmarket choice as the apartments are much nicer & the service better.

In Melbourne, Jolimont literally stands right by the main Melbourne train lines which don't stop running until after midnight & start again round 6am. Noisy… Also it is not handy to the CBD as it's not right on a main tram line. Also mostly studio apts so lots more rooms & noise (people coming & going).

Rooms at 100 Exhibition St & On The Park are a step up in quality & size from Jolimont & can be really good value. You can get them for around $125 a night when Mantra have a special. Also Exhibition St well is very well located to the CBD. A few minutes on the tram & you're right in the heart of Melbourne CBD.

However the best quality are On Russell & On Little Bourke. These are the 4.5 star options. They usually cost about $20 a night more. But it's worth it as the quality is clearly higher. Also there are less rooms so fewer guests.

    • Great summary of our Melbourne Hotels spacecowboy - Thanks for the effort.

  • It's also a good idea to book well in advance via the Mantra website when you get a good price, as you usually don't have to pay the full cost up front when you book. Beats using wotif where full payment is demanded at the time of booking your accomodation.

If you book via the Mantra site you only have to pay the first $200 up front, then the balance within 30 days of your arrival date (or 14 days in low season).

I did this last time I stayed with Mantra. Waited till they had a really great price on offer, then secured the booking with a $200 deposit. Paid the balance when due. As it was Melbourne & in the low season I didn't have to settle until 14 days before travel. Fantastic!

Really appreciated this option. As I said, it beats booking via wotif.
