OPPO PM-3 is the ideal headphones for a person who enjoys Hi-fi class sound always on the go. It combines true audiophile performance, elegant styling, exceptional comfort, noise isolation and portability into a pair of sleek lightweight Planar Magnetic headphones. Tipping the scales at just slightly over 10 oz., the PM-3 is the world's lightest closed-back planar magnetic headphones.

Purely Resistive Impedance:
OPPO's planar magnetic driver has a flat conductor pattern that does not have any inductive components. This eliminates inductance related inter-modulation distortion, which is especially common in dynamic drivers with high impedance and a high number of voice coil turns.

  • Aren't most headphones magnetic…?

    • The planar magnets are a quality feature of these headphones that most others don't, they allow twice as many conductors to be placed within the magnetic field, which leads to higher sensitivity, better damping, and even drive force.

        even drive force

Sold! This will go well with my Japanese Vamolcrium steel Kleva Sharp knives…

Most headphones use dynamic drivers (basically heaps of coils around a post to make a solenoid that pushes and pulls a diaphragm). Planar magnetic drivers are not a recent innovation but less popular - they use a flat sheet of material levitated between to banks of magnets with the traces snaking across it. End result is less moving mass and a surface that moves as a whole flat sheet, which means (in theory, I've never actually tried a pair) that you'll have more "tight" bass response. They also have different amplification characteristics, but that's another can of worms that isn't too relevant for this particular pair of headphones.

so tempting. Should have waited a few days more, just bought a BeyerDynamic T70.

    • I'll have your T70s brother

      • Actually it has not been shipped out yet. Wondering if I can still cancel it and get the PM3 instead.

    ANC?

    • These are noise isolating headphones, not noise canceling.

The difference between Apple earbuds and these Oppo headphones are worlds apart. The difference in quality is incomparable.

Oppo are a high end brand when it comes to audio visual equipment. You may be thinking of the Oppo branded phones which come in at the cheaper end of the Android market.

The Beats by Apple probably only worth $49 and this headphone surely worth $449. Used second hand one still sells for $380 on Ebay.

Was listening to Massive Attack on these last night:-) Mmm

  • This is a really good price (and tenbuxx cheaper than DigiCin), but you should probably mention that Oppo has discontinued these (and all their headphones), so if anyone is paranoid about spare parts being available in future..

  • Can anyone comment on how these compare with the Bose QC35 II or the Sony WH-1000XM2?

    • +3

The PM3s have a very neutral sound signature, which some find boring. They EQ very well though. Most would agree they have better sound but lack ANC and bluetooth that the Bose or Sony has. Very solid build but also heavier. Less comfortable and clamping force is quite strong so watch out if you have a big head. They also don't fold so portability is a little less but it's best just to keep it on your head.

You really just get this for the sound and not much else.

  • Almost bought a pair of these a couple years back. A good starting point if you are looking for some affordable planar magnetics.

  • Oppo is ending its Headphones and Blue-ray player products so these might eventually get even cheaper if there is left over stock.
