even at $50, sadly that is too much to pay for a Kogan TV…

    • Why is that, did a unit die on you prematurely or are you just riding the kogan hate train like alot of people who have never owned one?

      • +2

the guy sitting next to me here owns one and says the picture quality is crap…

I've got a Sony 46" 200hz and 2x kogan full HD's, put them in a dark room and i agree that they look different in PQ. But to say the kogan looks crap is just a beat up. After spending so much on a good Sony screen, and then seeing how good a cheap full hd screen looks, id argue there is far less today that seperates good from bad, cheap from expensive.

That guy's name wouldn't happen to be Gerry Harvey by any chance??? :p

I don't know who manufactures the LCD screens for Krogan however they are very likley the same screens used in a brand name TV

        • Most kogan tvs use Samsung panels
          As told here

Apparently it's not only the screen manufacturer that counts but also the image processing units which in cheapies is supposed to be not as good as in the brand names, however I'm still very satisfied with my cheap kogan 42" LED tv

edit: so the shift button didn't press well when I typed the L in LED

'IED'? Your Kogan is an Improvised Explosive Device?

It's not the panel that makes the most difference, it's the processor in the television… That's why TV's with exactly the same panel can show vast differences in picture quality…

  • its true. these days most of the bigger brands sale prices (panasonic, samsung and etc) are going cheaper and cheaper.

  • Does it still come with free shipping for floor victims?

Kogan TV… Hm… trusted a friend and bought one. That was a huge mistake. So called Samsung panel is no where near as good as a real Samsung panel (more like a Samsung reject). That aside, the 120Hz support is not working. Actually, 60Hz support is horrible. HDMI Auto does not work as a result (watching blu-ray movies at 1080p@60Hz is painful - motion is not smooth at all). Must manually set the blu-ray player to output 1080p@50Hz. PC via HDMI is even worse, lack of 1:1 mapping aside… 60Hz support (again as I pointed out earlier) is just horrible.

To make things worse, the remote, it interferes with those real cheap DVD-players (and many other devices).

Honestly, I feel like selling my Kogan TV cheap BUT how can I let someone else suffer the problems I've found…

I will never buy a Kogan TV. Buy a proper name brand TV (Panasonic, Sony, Sharp, Samsung or LG).

If the 120Hz is not working then why haven't you claimed warranty

      • +1

First… do you expect me to spend time explaining to them that 120Hz is not working?
1080p@60Hz does not work properly - so how do you expect 120Hz to work?

The most annoying thing is, rather than inform the device (e.g. blu-ray player) that the TV does not really handel 60Hz properly, it informs the device that it can do HDMI 1080p@60Hz.. This means HDMI Auto always end up with a resolution which the Kogan TV does not support properly.

Also, I contacted support and they have no idea about 1080p@60Hz vs 1080p@50Hz. They just claim the TV can support 120Hz. 1080p@60Hz will display, except you get heaps of motion jitter (it is like someone pressing pause every 1/2 second).

Warranty? What's the point? Even if they somehow fixed the 60Hz issue, I still have problems that Kogan TV remotes conflict with 80% of my A/V devices. Connecting a laptop to the TV (HDMI) is also a BAD idea, lack of 1:1 and no matter how much I adjusted the laptop, the output is still blurry. The TV is a piece of junk. Warranty will not help.

        • Cheers for the response. I want to get a 2nd TV eventually but a cheapy. I can cross Kogan off the list

        • Connecting a laptop to the TV (HDMI) is also a BAD idea, lack of 1:1

Set the laptop output to the native resolution of the TV?

  • I had a week long dispute with them. Not because of the product, but the shipping was extremely painful.
I suggest you get a real Samsung. I got the 40" 650B model. Very happy with it.
I bought a Panasonic Blu-Ray player, and it got recognized by the TV. No need to use 2 controls for the basic operations.
The 2 USB ports to play AVI (DiVx I suppose) works a treat.
You can find them now everywhere at super-low prices.
