31st may 2019*. you got it as 2018.

  • Sorry… Newbie to travel question… Can you have a stop over in hk (since it's Cathay pacific) or are they direct flights from syd to japan

    • These should all connect in Hong Kong with layovers of 2 to 10 hours or so, maybe longer, but I am not sure.

Just be aware of your body clock, your layover could be in the middle of your regular sleep time. You might be more likely to want to nap in the terminal than take a tour of the city. Also Cathay do free booze for international flights, after ten Singapore slings from little plastic cups you might be too boozy to do anything anyway.

    • Did Melb -> Osaka in 2015 and we included few days stopover in HK both ways at no extra charge

  • Just found out there is no seat pre-selection option on Syd - Osaka flights, extra fee applies for choosing seats, so Cathy is now becoming a budget airline with things to add on ??

      Qantas do this too

      • +2

u can still select seats when u do online checkin… u're only paying for the privilege of doing it well in advance? and first dibs… i guess

      • +1

Qantas didn't charge me for choosing seats in July. They only charge extra for the extra leg room seats.

        • +1

I believe seats are random on sales prices with Qantas.

        • FF status?

        • It depends on which fare you book on. The lower fare tiers don’t allow you to choose seats for free.

  • Nice prices!

    Edit: found some

is it true that CX have changed their seat layouts to a 3-4-3 setup so it's more crowded now? or that hasnt happened yet?

    • -1

to me yes, i had air sickness back in 2013 in a CX, felt so much crowded. Ever since that i only fly with Singapore.

      • Cathay economy and Singapore economy is not that much different…

    • Yes. The CX 777 fleet is in the process of being converted from 3-3-3 to 3-4-3.

It will soon be just Singapore, Delta, Japan Airlines and certain BA routes with 9 abreast 777s.

      • and Thai

        • Thai were 3-4-3 when I flew.

        • @tranter: you must have been on a 747 or A380 - they are wider aircraft and 3-4-3… their 777s are all 3-3-3

Is the price for one way trip?

  • Do Cathay Pacific charge higher rates for child fares compared to other airlines? With most airlines child fares are around 75% of adult fare, from what I can see Cathay Pacific charge a fair bit more than that.

  • looking for flights around christmas to hk, dates not covered in this deal :(

    • Xmas is basically never on sale.

  • These fares are not inclusive of carriage surcharges and taxes right? When I try to book return flights, there is ~$300 surcharges and taxes. I wonder did I miss any detail in this deal. Thanks.

Edit: Solved… Didn't choose the one flight with red triangle at the bottom right, even if they are same price :'D

  • anyone have a deal/hack for JR rail pass? or other japan travel advice?
