Just my two cents; these are better than all the "top" brands I have tried.

    • +3

Finish being the worst I've personally used.

      • Yes. Not sure why I used them for so long.

The best are actually Earth Choice, believe it or not.

    • Why? Elaborate more?

      • +1

        Not op…

        Cleans better than quantum tablet
Hasn't ever left a tablet unlike others
Cheap and ongoing cheap, unlike others

        Have a newer Bosch dishwasher

  • Can anyone advise as to which of the finish variants this matches up with. There are way too many.

    • +14

They are better than any of the Finish tablets.

      • Thanks

        • Finish Quantum Ultimate Powerball Tablets

  • I was just buying tablets at Woolies today and thought this would be a good topic to discuss as the price difference between top and low end of this market is insane. Who really wants to pay $1 a wash when a 15c tablet does a reasonably good job. I bought the woolies branded version which is currently 16c a tablet I think.

This does better than a lot of big names

      • +2

I don't know how choice do there testing but the earth choice tablets they list as number 1 are useless.

        • +5

All dishwashers are different unfortunately. The Aldi ones do an average job in ours, Finish being the best we've tried… 😐

        • +1

@ryang: Which brand do you have out of interest? I have a Bosch and find the finish ones to be the best as well. Im yet to try the Aldi ones as I always manage to find the Finish either cheaper or around the same price.

          @No:

Strange. Earth Choice are definitely the best in my Bosch dishwasher.

        • @No: Dishlex

        • @ryang: Mine is Miele and finish and Fairy are the best. Aldi stuck in the dish washer once and I had to run the washer twice to rince out.

        • @hyunjun24: put it in the bottom

        • F&P Dishdrawer here, and I've never had a problem with Finish Classic

        • +8

@TarquinOliverNimrod: I find it works better in the dishwasher.

The full Choice results show that each product is good at cleaning some things, and not so great at others, so your mileage may vary depending on what you eat. Water hardness can also vary the results.

While I'm here… the Aldi Logix Complete 10 in 1 Dishwashing Tablets rate slightly better than the 18 in 1 tablets advertised here. The former is 15 cents per tablet regular price.

Here is a summary of what Choice recommend:

I used to use Finish in my Bosch, tried Fairy but wasn't as good. Now use Earth Choice and I'm very happy with the tablets. They don't go on special very often but when they do I buy a couple of boxes

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod:

Great. Thanks for the heads up. Apologies for not checking, and just cutting and pasting the table from last time I posted it.

        • @Matt88: Fairy is disgusting. It's like a soap bomb went off in the dishwasher and ruins plastics with a stench of fake lemon that lingers for ages.

    • Who’s paying $1/wash?!

  • Can't fault these, as good as Quantum.

  • +1

Are these Aldi dishwashing tablets on sale, or will this be the new everyday price?

  • We stack our Adli tablets on top of the cutlery tray (not in the tablet housing on the door) and it has worked wonders. Whenever we have put them in the tablet tray on the door, it's a terrible outcome!

    • What do you mean by "a terrible outcome"?

      • +3

Dishes don't come out clean, often leaving food residue on them.

        • Agreed. It was stuck on the door but just once….

    • I have the same experience. The tablet gets stuck and doesn’t dissolve.

  • We've ended up having a stockpile of old Finish and now also Aldi tablets because we don't have any dishwasher-safe cookware … if there even is such a thing (and genuine about it).

    • Only those disposal containers are not dishwasher safe, all glass, ceramic, percelan, metal ones are almost always safe. Don't you have any of those?

      • Aluminum also is not suitable for dishwasher.

      • Aluminium, Steel knives, Beer mugs with printing on them should not be put in dishwasher.

      • +1

'disposal containers are not dishwasher safe'

        What?

I find that only a dishwasher can get the disposal containers clean of all oils.

  • For some reason I thought these were washing machine tablets

  • Got a Bosch dishwasher, tried Normal Aldi, Quanmtum, then Aldi Platinum. All does a similar job which clean dishes “clean”. So I will buy the cheaper one. I will buy finish if it is discounted to same price as Aldi one, otherwise, Aldi one good enough.

  • +2

Random fact of the day: they're made in Luxembourg

    • Yeah - Aldi are slowly phasing out a LOT of their Aussie stuff. It's a real shame.

Lots of Coles brand equivalents are still Aussie - eg, cat food sachets (Thai), Corn flakes (German).

  • Anybody get stains on 'stainless' cutlery with these?

    • Do you use rinse aid?

    • Open the machine when it finishes to help drying. Hard-ish water probably causes some of that. Or any exposed metal on the trays if an old dishwasher.

    • Do you mean water marks?

    • Yeah same issue here and new to dishwasher. Any suggestions?

      • Yeah i used to get this a fair bit, I recommend putting the dishwasher on at a time you are home to open it and let the dishes dry just after it's finished.
For me, I put it on at night with lets say a 5-6 hour timer. By the time it's done in the morning, i open the door and let the steam out and for them to dry all day while at work. If they sit there with the door closed wet for most of day they stain up.

I havnt used my dishwasher in years. At this price for detergent I might start using it again. Anyone know how much power dishwashers use?

  • +1

I my machine the dissolvable wrapper sometimes causes the spring door to jam and the tablet doesn't dissolve - does anyone else get this. I now unwrap every tablet.

    • Just place it on the floor of the dishwasher or in the cutlery basket, it makes no difference.

    • Is the compartment fully dry?

      • It is not something I have checked - there is a good chance is will be damp sometimes. I will try putting in the cutlery basket.

  • Always think if dishwasher is safe on detergent residue on dishes and I tend to rinse out cups on tap water before use. Surely it wouldn’t be cleaner than hand wash.

    • Huh?

    • Dishwashers have a rinse cycle where they flush the system with plain water after the main washing cycle is done

    • +1

Do you rinse out your clothes before you put them on too?

  • FYI bigw had finish quantum max on clearance for $5 currently. Only a 16pk from memory but they were full price at $16. In store only

    • ~31c a tablet.

  • Besides the convenience, do tablets offer anything more than old-school powder? They use Finish tablets at work and tbh I can't see any difference between that and a capful of the Aldi powder (the one that comes in a plastic container) I use at home

    • Less packaging?

    • I tried the powder from the box when I first got my machine and was testing what worked best. Fair to say after about 3 washes I never used it again, ended up just chucking the powder. It was completely hopeless on a side by side to the tablets. I would try both, one wash with the tablet, one with powder, then switch between washes and see if you can tell which is which…

  • Personally I have never used anything better than Fairy.
And generally can get in bulk from different places, eBay, catch for example.

Definitely happy to give these a go though for the price!!!!!

FYI the price list above says 78c per wash for fairy which at most I’d pay $35 for $120+ tabs.
Choice is not the be all they often don’t do enough
    Research here’s a good example.

    • -1

I assume you work for them considering you joined 13 mins ago?

    • +1

They list the standard price from supermarkets

    • Yup, Fairy Platinum is by far the best I've tried in my Asko dishwasher.

  • How do these stack up against the Kirkland (Costco brand) ones? Kirkland aren't on the Choice list :(

  • I've been using these happily. It cleans everything well, especially for the price. In fact, I didnt find the Finish tablets to wash coffee stains too well).

I would have purchased this if only I didnt already have the same box and the 100 tablet pack from a recent deal.

  • So based on choice, logix complete is better than this one logix platinum. Logix complete normal price is 15c each which is the same as this deal.
Might as well buy logix complete then and ignore this "deal"..
    Isn't that the right logix?

    • Nope results updated

  • Aldi tabs + Aldi blue rinse agent + Aldi dishwasher cleaner every few months on the long cycle for the win.

  • I pop my tablets into the cutlery tray and also find that I have to run the hot water through the sink first (electric hot water tank) so it gets hot water immediately.

The other favor for residue is water isn't hot enough at all.

I have my take set to 60C for 2 reasons being kids and no need to heat tank up more.

the finish powerball classic do a great job for me. Hard to get your hands on but we usually chuck two in coz we can. Started off with kirkland but they left the plates a little too clean. Kind of like Tandil handwashing liquid before watering down

    • Why would you use 2?

That would be way too much detergent.
