      • Do i need to be on tourist visa to claim TRS ?

        • +2

TRS is for when you travel overseas. Say NZ. You buy the phone. Take it to NZ with you. You claim TRS on the phone. Just make sure there are two of you travelling as you can only bring back $900 worth of tax free purchases per adult.

        • @ChipsChicky
No you don't have to be on a tourist visa. Ordinary Australians are entitled to claim a GST refund as well (subject to certain conditions). Please read the conditions carefully. Among the conditions, is you need a "Valid Tax Invoice", and considering the amount is above $1000, you have to inform the JB Hifi cashier you intend to claim back your GST via TRS and you need your name (i.e. the person who is going overseas and claiming the GST refund) and address printed on your tax invoice.

          For more info:
          https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/trav/ente/tour
The TRS allows Australians and overseas visitors to claim a refund, (subject to certain conditions), of the goods and services tax (GST) and wine equalisation tax paid on goods bought in Australia and then taken out of Australia.

        • @Sydney11:

          Thanx man :)

      • I think that's because it was on a plan that the full rrp Was on your invoice.

I assume for a outright purchase the price you actually paid will be on there

    • is there any limit to how many giftcards you can use to pay with @ JB?

      • I like to know too. I think 5 gift cards only.

        @wombat78
Don't think there is any limit at the JB Hifi Cash register. I once paid using $1000 worth of JB Hifi Giftcards

        • How about like $6000 worth lol hmmm

Go through Qantas Online mall, pay the same price and get 5 points to the $ spent. 7500 points on top isnt bad

  • I had a Note 1, then 2, both of which seemed slow very quickly. Then a 4 which was ok for about 4 years. Never really used the stylus so decided to go for a Oneplus 6 8/128 (just under $800) this time which is great so far. Always swore I'd get an iPhone once they made one with a decent sized screen, but couldn't come at the silly money they want, now look at the silly price for this!

$1700, holy moley! What a rip off batman.

The iPhone X was $1580, and iPhone X Plus arriving next month will be about $1700…

Difference is, Apple doesn't shaft their customers and give their old stock away at bargain basement prices 6 months after release. iPhone X's are still worth over 1k on the used market. While $1499 Samsung note 8's are worth <600. If you upgrade yearly or every 2 years, you would have to be an idiot to buy a Samsung considering how much cheaper Apple phones are if you consider resale alone. If you can say you prefer Samsung even if you lose more money, well, that's fine, as long as you can admit it.

      Apple doesn't shaft their customers

LOL. Give me a minute while i pick myself up off the floor laughing at this.

      Touch disease…
      Bendgate…
      Batterygate…
      Butterfly keyboard issues.

No.. They don't shaft customers at all. Thats why we have had or currently have class action lawsuits against apple?

      • -6

Broy is specifically referring to how the phones don't drop in value as drastically as other brands. Did you read the full sentence?

      • Apple fanbois think Apple created the universe.
You simply cannot reason or argue with them.

You could tell them that the wheel was not invented by them, and they will look at you as though you have 3 heads

    • What a crock of sheeet.
No where can I buy a Note 8 for below 600, let alone 600. And if I can then let me know because I have a friend looking for one. Cheers.
"you would have to be an idiot to buy a Samsung considering how much cheaper Apple phones are if you consider resale alone" You would have to be an idiot to buy an Apple considering how much more profit margins Apple have for their phones and are squeezing their parts suppliers for lower prices. Also you're buying the phone for higher on the second hand market… PEople looking for second hand devices can get a Samsung phone for significantly cheaper according to your flawed logic.

      • "ou would have to be an idiot to buy a Samsung considering how much cheaper Apple phones are if you consider resale alone"

Calling someone an idiot solely for buying a competitors product is true fanbois behaviour

    • "$1700, holy moley! What a rip off batman.
The iPhone X was $1580, and iPhone X Plus arriving next month will be about $1700…"

Why are you comparing the base model 64GB iPhone X to the highest model 512GB Note 9?
When you consider that you can actually now get the 512GB model for the cost of the 1400 Note 9, I would say the reverse is clearly true; The Note 9 is a STEAL compared to the iPhone X but to be honest, for many people there are far better value smart phones from Oppo and OnePlus.

I think I will start to shop for a xiaomi.

If you NEED 8gb RAM on a phone, there's something wrong.

    • +1

"Android phones have more RAM than iPhones because they need more memory to run all that malware and spyware in the background."

      https://twitter.com/JonyIveParody/status/900425377738305539

      • And iPhones contantly need more RAM to run the everbloating iOS to bring iPhone up to feature parity with Android 2.5 years ago.

    • +1

hehe - this reminds me of Bill Gates quote where he said 640Kb ought to be enough for anybody…

I agree that no one needs it today. But I've got 8gb RAM on my Oneplus 5 (it's hard to believe it is a year old now).

      • Damn, that's more RAM than many laptops!

  • Lmao, please tell me people don't actually spend that much on a phone.

My Nexus 5 is still going strong and I'm never paying more than $500AUD for a phone, this is ridiculous.

  • Man phones are getting expensive

    • At the top end sure, people are paying for the status symbol and almost no real world improvement anymore other than games (eg. 8GB is … stupid) … at the bottom end we're paying peanuts for 90% of the same experience. I bought a Sharp Aquos S2 for $215.

Yeah, Android fans cannot say anything to Apple users about being sheep anymore LMAO.

And Android collects data for the worlds largest data collector to serve unwanted content aka ads.

I do miss the Note stylus still from owning an OG Samsung Note though … back in 2011 when a 5.5" screen was outlandish and doomed to fail and 1920x1080 was completely bonkers … why would anyone want such a res on a phone? WHY??!!

    • Yeah, Android fans cannot say anything to Apple users about being sheep anymore LMAO.

Those of us who buy reasonable Android phones can say this to both Apple and Samsung fanboys.

    • Ads are inevitable. But at least they'll be relevant?

    • Ummm, as opposed to Apple? Who forcefully load shit music onto your borrowed phone. Or tell you that it's illegal to get a display installed by third party repair shops because it's intellectual property. At the end of the day Apple are just a massive $800bill dollar company making the most money they can to feed their investors.

Just preordered the Note9 cost me $924!
Well… that's with the trade up from my Note8 lol

    • daaam how? I traded mine at first they said 627 then said max 527…? WUT mines iPhone 7+ tho unluggy

      • On their Tradeup for the NOTE9 max amount was $575. Although I can see the iPhone7+ 256GB $615 lol not sure how thats going to work.

        • +1

On their website, it says includes $125 bonus credit. Is that already included in the assessment of $575 or is it $575 + $125?

        • @Aced21: that's included. You get $125 discount up front and the rest once they've received your phone

to cause more fire, here is interesting article:

iPhone X outperforms Samsung’s brand new 6.4-inch Galaxy Note 9

    https://9to5mac.com/2018/08/09/samsung-galaxy-note-9-vs-ipho…

    • "When your competitor's flag ship still cant compete with your last year model" GG, perhaps they could try the iPhone 6 LOL

    • Too bad the iPhoneX doesn't a bigger screen(yet) or a stylus. That's why I have a note8 and soon a Note9. The only other phones on the market with a stylus is the LG Q Stylus but that's not even in the same league. Speed isn't everything. But if there's a phone that has everything, I'd have it lol p.s my wife has the iPhoneX. At least she's happy with it.

Funny how Apple fanboys are now all about benchmark scores when their iOS is bloated and less smooth than Google's vanilla Android running on older hardware with less specs. Some odd years ago I remember how they would say that it wasn't about the numbers, it's about the experience and UI speed… Hmmm

    1.5k…. No thanks.

  • I'm waiting for the refurb

  • Laughs at the price of this phone from my Pixel 2XL

Fk me, $1499 for a phone and we got 100 plus already… Should call this richbargain.com

    • +1

      Bargain doesn’t mean cheap.

  • +2

Yes phones range from $100 - $2000. Get over it people the flagship devices are not for everyone. If you use you phone for work / to earn an income, or like most people are stuck commuting 2 hours a day then $1500 for a device and replacing it every 2 years is not a big deal - it’s like $60/ month - great value for the productivity and entertainment it brings. Spend more on Friday beers..

  • I dont need the latest and new release devices,

im looking for an aussie stock note 8, preferebly from jb/HN/TGG

realistically, is there a price I can expect for it fall to or if at all?

  • Does any one know what was the price of Note 8 just before Note 9 came out at Samsung store?
Trying to figure out is it worth waiting until june 2019 to get Note 9 since I got Note 8..
    Cheers..
