what was their reasons for not paying the claim?
Goods left unattended? No receipt? Depreciation value greater than the excess?
I forget the exact wording - something like not exercising due care. It was at an airport, I went to the toilet and left everything with my partner in an open space. It was a coordinated theft. Airport security reviewed the footage and didn't see anything. It was change of shift, and one of the new shift security dudes recognised one of the people as a professional who had hit the airport on previous sporadic occasions. They were then able to figure out how it was done. The police report and airport security report both stated something like "a coordinated theft involving 3 suspected professional thieves". They used "suspected" because they were still at large
I remember now the discussion at the time basically we weren't covered for theft unless it was forcefully taken from us, or removed from a hotel safe or locked room - that sort of thing. And, leaving it somewhere isn't covered either eg leaving it in a taxi.
how did they coordinate to distract your partner?

I'm quite dubious of many insurance companies because its so hard to tell but they came through so all good for me. It'd check what they cover for medical emergencies though to see if you're fully covered. That should be more important that my anecdotal story.

had bad experience with allianz travel insurance. Had police reports and even airport video and they wouldn't pay for stolen camera and lens.
