Hey folks the GTX5B is $122.15 at the Sony Store plus delivery of $9 while it is $174 at JBHiFi.

Sony state the original price as $174.50 while JBHiFi state the original price as $349 and it is still $264 at the Goodguys.

I fixed the post it may be confusing to read. My life story follows below lol.
JBHiFi have this Bluetooth speaker on sale for $174 but they had no output specs. So i checked out the Sonystore and they have the speaker even cheaper at $122.15. Even Sonystore has no damn output specs stated.

Only the black model is $122.15 the other colours are more expensive.

Well its all good i found it cheaper but i still can't find the output specs? lol.

    Thanks bought one.

  • I have the JBL Xtreme, this deal is really good, hesitating atm..

    • Which is better?

      • Oh well, JBL is bit smaller, but I am an audio freak, I have small bluetooth speakers, large like JBL Xtreme, and just bought this one. For $122, you can't go wrong man, for the same price, you getting ue boom 2, I would buy this one for sure.

  • Great post! Just purchased! Thanks.

  • Looks like a price error as other colours are $244

    • Yea but this colour was $174.50 so its probably been on sale for a while.

      • Sony often sell one colour of an item at a different price to others listed in their store. Usually works the other way around though (more expensive):) . Must have something to do with stock levels.

  • +2

That's a fantastic deal! Ordered, thanks!

Edit: Couldn't help myself and ordered another one to connect together for less than price of one retail. Perfect!

    • I'm gonna regret not doing this.

      • Imagine them on either side of a large TV! ;)

  • +3

Note - this does NOT have a battery. It has to be plugged in.

  • I have the bose revolve plus and wanna know how they compare, anyone? I probably might give em a listen at JB later on the day but just a curious thought

  • I can pair this with a google mini right?

  • Is this a bluetooth only speaker? Can you connect any other way?

    • Hey mate it appears to have bluetooth and also an analogue connection it has a left and right input but i don't have one so I'm not sure how it works.

    • +2

It's a mystery speaker with no specs, according to the Sony website.

But it does say: "Enjoy deep, punchy bass with EXTRA BASS".

      EXTRA BASS

      • Who doesn't love a little BASS on BASS action?

        • I like to be punched by BASS.

Better than being kicked by TROUT.

    • It has RCA input/output.

      Fond this in the manual.

      Using an optional equipment
1 Connect an optional equipment (i.e. WALKMAN®,smartphone, TV, DVD player,IC recorder, etc.) to the AUDIO/PARTY CHAIN IN L/R jacks on the unit using an audio cord (not supplied).
2 Press FUNCTION repeatedly until the AUDIO IN indicator on the unit lights up.
3 Start playback on theconnected equipment.

      • sweet - i have a few of them lying around just in case it is needed.
        Thanks for the research

  • Got free delivery, too. Thanks for the post!

Had been wanting something for the garage - I think this should do it.

  • How much is Cashrewards?

    • 2.1%

I have absolutely no need for this yet am incredibly interested. Just another day on ozb

  • These things look really punchy and loud, but not the greatest quality, it's like the Sony Muteki systems.

    • It's the opposite way around. Good quality but not very punchy and loud. It's ideal for smaller spaces and apartments etc. Better if you daisy chain two together but apparently the smaller B3 and larger B7 models both have better sound.

    I used pricepal 4.5% cashback

Seems like they are back on track. Got paid my cashback pending last week

  • It is 174.50 when I add it in my cart.

  • shows $174.50 now

  • same here price 122.15 but 174.50 when added to cart other colors when added to the cart revert back to the non-sale price as well

  • 174.50 for me too, now. It seems they have corrected the typo!

  • I hope they don't cancel all the orders like the Good Guys.

  • Show 174.50 to me

  • +2

Damn, second time today I missed good deal.

  • The newer version although more expensive has a battery for full flexibility and they can be linked wirelessly. Punchy output. Cheap price as originally the 5 was alot more when first released over a year or so ago.

  • Purchased through JB hifi in the morning around 11ish , I wish i had checked ozbargain before buying…. i had listened to similar one with the battery and they sounded pretty good. Hope non battery ones are as good.

    • Do you like it? Is it loud?

      • for that much price, its definitely worth it. Its loud enough for my house :).

    • @rav_stk The 5 is fine. The battery version is essentially the same just with the battery.

      • Yes, that is correct. Only downside is no microphone in on these ones.

  • Wonder if I can put a chromecast audio on this. Cheaper alternative to the Home max.

    • You should be able to do this. This is what I am going to do.

  • -1

Had to convince the bo$$ to let me buy one , she denied my request for a 2nd one

BTW got it for the discounted price

    • How many speakers do you have?

      • Only 1.

        • I got 2, this is my 3rd bluetooth speaker.

  • mine has been shipped

    • Same! Got a confirmation order on both seperate orders. Glad to see Sony honouring this but expecting a really really long delivery time as per usual from them. TV bought from them took weeks and several chase ups becuase they were 'busy'.

      • Bought a couple of these with the EOFY mid-year sales, cost me another $50 each despite the 20%-odd discount. Delivery Sydney-Melbourne was quick though, 2 days for one and overnight for the other.

  • Mine has been shipped with DHL, too

  • -1

Got mine delivered yesterday. Planning to setup and test tonight.

If all good, going to try and price match another one via receipt at JB tomorrow

    • Can JB price match that?

      • No harm trying

Worst case scenario they say no and I walk out empty hanged

Best case scenario they say no and I walk out with $123 in my wallet

  • Does anyone have a screen grab of Sony's page showing this deal, or a copy of a receipt (delete your private details) proving they sold them at this price? I want to do a credit card price protection claim for a pair of these I bought a couple of months ago and they require some proof the price went down this far. Thanks.

Both arrived today, paired up and absolutely fantastic. Well worth the deal price. Very happy!

      • Set it up but my ZVOX SOUNDBASE 220 Sounds much better

        • Did you manage to set 2 up to TV? Seems the partychain works great over bluetooth to iPhone but if you line-in from TV, partychain doesn't work? Do we need an amp or something?

        • @Hybroid: Managed to MacGuyver it with dual RCA to 3.5mm cables from Officeworks and a twin 3.55m splitter into the TV headphone jack.

Might look at some optical toslink or still consider an amp but doubt will notice the difference.

        • @Hybroid: I've only ever connected wirelessly, so I haven't used an RCA connection. I would think you would be able to run a cable from the TV output to the input of one speaker (P. 21 of the manual). Technically the speakers each have an inbuilt amp, don't get too distracted by all the pictures of amps throughout the manual. That is more for if you are having a party and want every sound system in the house to be synced with a master player (of course we have a full amp/speaker combo in every room of the house, don't we!). Once you have one speaker working wired, you can use the speaker add function (P.19 of the manual) to add the second speaker - wirelessly - with the option of mono or separate left/right. I wouldn't have thought it needed to be this complex if you cabled it with RCA cables though. Simply — out of the TV, line in on the first speaker, line out of the first speaker to line in of the second speaker (use the example on P. 17 of the manual, substituting your TV for the speaker, and substitute a speaker for each amp pictured). I can't see the need to loop it back again to the source unit, as illustrated in the previous example on P.16.

        • @Hybroid:

Do you think it's worth it buying two (2) speakers just for the TV? Did you notice any big difference connecting two (2) speakers to the TV? Or, one speaker would be enough for the size of 49"TV?

        • @jaym84: Depends on the size of the room I guess. If you live in an apartment then 1 speaker is definitely more than enough. I think the second was probably excessive for me and the connection between them is pretty poor. For example, you cannot enable partychain mode when you use audio-in, only via Bluetooth which is stupid. Sound quality is definitely pretty good though and well worth the price.

Biggest difference is direction of sound. I got the 60" Sony TV that was on offer from here so putting one on the side doesn't sound right but one on either side is much much better. Playing something like Dark Knight off Netflix sounds fantastic with them.

If you can place one speaker on it's side in the center then it's more than adequate.

  • Just got, thanks OP, this is best bluetooth speaker I ever had in my life. Keep up with the good work. :)

  • I have also received mine. Planning to use 2x of these with Chromecast audio. Does anyone know how I can set them up in stereo mode?

      • Power up both speakers, set one up in bluetooth pairing mode
      • Connect to the speaker via bluetooth.
      • quickly press "speaker add" on the first speaker
      • quickly press "speaker add" on the second speaker, this joins both speakers in "dual stereo" mode (stereo on both speakers)
      • press and hold the speaker add button on one speaker, it will change one speaker to wholly left, the other to wholly right. Repeat this step to swap left and right.

It's in the manual on p19:

  • Thanks everyone who helped me out with a copy of their purchase receipt, I successfully got over $50 per speaker refunded on my credit card price protection.

  • Anyone who has purchased this willing to sell ? I am happy to pay between $175 + Shipping ?

I missed out this and completely regret it :(

    • They are still available as SECONDS for $189 delivered on ebay from Sony https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SONY-GTKXB5B-EXTRA-BASS-High-Pow… I've bought their seconds products before, they are identical to a brand new one with the same warranty etc. They might have been unpacked from the box and checked, or have slight box damage or had a small fault rectified. Worth it for the price. The Sony site is showing them for $264, but out of stock for the "new" stock.

  • Thanks I did see that but was unsure of the product quality as i have never purchased an refurbished item before.

In coma prison how is this ?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SONY-MHCV11-One-Box-High-Power-H…

    Thanks

    • In my experience, SECONDS and REFURB items from the big boys like Apple, Sony etc are excellent, sometimes indistinguishable from a brand new unit. It may in some cases have had the plastic removed that protects the final finish, but there is no visible scratches and damage. I feel good that a human has thoroughly checked the unit functions 100% following repair or part replacement. Sometimes a new unit is DOA straight off the factory floor. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend seconds to anyone. We are not talking the scratch-and-dent corner of a department store with parts missing here.

In my experience, refurb Apple products I've bought are indistinguishable from a brand new item. With Sony, they were mainly cosmetic defects. A mobile phone I recently bought had the slightest of scuffs on the back plate (I assume it slid on the workbench while a screen was replaced), easily covered with a phone cover anyway. And on one GTKXB5, there was a scratch on the back panel next to a screw (a screwdriver obviously slipped). Almost invisible and in no way affects the operation of the unit. Otherwise perfect in every way. I've seen worse damage caused by some people unpacking a new unit.

With regards to the MHCV11, it is more of an all-in-one party box. It has all of the bluetooth/line-in features of the XB5 etc, but it has a DJ jog wheel, controls and displays to operate it locally without having to resort to an app on a mobile device. It also includes a CD player. It has a larger single woofer (as opposed to the two smaller ones in the XB5). From what I've heard of the two units on display at JBHIFI, they were similar volume, but I didn't max them out. I'm not sure if the V11 has an inbuilt battery, which is a welcome addition (I also have the XB60 bluetooth speakers which is a small step up from the XB5, much nicer to be able to go cordless).

If you are only getting a single unit, and for the sake of $50 more, I'd probably go for the MHCV11.

  • Awesome..Thanks for the detailed response and explanation.. I will go ahead and purchase GTK-XB5.. happy to save $50 more as this will be a upgrade for me anyway from Iphone 6 where i listen to music now ..ha ha ha
