Woolworths Have Stopped Gift Cards Being Purchased with a WISH Card

Went to purchase a gift card today from Woolworths using a WISH gift card but it threw an error. Seems Woolworths have stopped the purchase of gift cards with egift cards.

Real shame…

      • yep like @Godzilla123 said, Jetstar at Woolies (but the Bunnings was from Coles, in case anyone was interested, but I can only get 5% off Coles, so Woolies is better for me). Sorry for the confusion.

        • Would have to be lucky to buy gift cards with egift cards. Don't they usually reject you at self service?

          • @mkheav: I think some GCs are still OK to be purchased via eGC in Woolies.

          • @mkheav: Like I said. Not for me. There's 2 Coles & Woolies where I regularly do it at. One Woolies has only just had a refit with new self service checkouts. So rumours of its demise is overstated.

Another trick to try is to split payment say $1 CC, then see if you can do the rest on egiftards. Oh I always make another purchase (who doesn't need bread or milk?), which may help.

I bought supercheap auto gift cards last monday and it worked but tried tonight with ebay giftcards and it got declined.

    • eBay, VISA1, eftpos, Kogan GCs all NO! Other GCs mostly still works.

  • Has anyone tried whether physical wish cards can be used to buy other gift cards?

    • Comes up with the same error on the terminal as the eGift card.

      • Self Checkout? Or?

  • Caboolture Central Lakes QLD store now doesn’t work for eBay giftcards.

Tried split payment eGiftcard and even tried adding food along with the giftcards with no luck. This was self checkout.

  • FYI Woolies ivanhoe victoria does not accept this too, went to the normal check out (non-self service) :(

      did they accept it?

Can't buy eBay gift cards using wish card at Woolworths Morley, WA. Has anyone tried to lodge a complaint? Is it ACCC that takes the complaint?

    • No you need to go to the police and file a complaint…

      No, maybe your mummy might

  • Really annoying how simcard/starter packs are also blocked … especially when there's just 1-2 in a big basket and the cashier spends 30mins trying to figure out why the payment isn't working.

    • Yes, that's the case. However, you can still use rewards dollars to buy SIMs/GCs. I save rewards dollars for these purchase now.

  • Rather than starting a new thread, can anyone who has recently purchased a Wish e-gift card online tell me how long they take to arrive these days? I remember it used to be around 1 to 1.5 hours but haven't bought one in a long time, until today. Ordered it about half an hour ago.

Can be up to a few hours, like even 4 or 5. That is just my experience. I assume this is through Cashrewards.

      • +1

Yep, via Cashrewards. I received the tax invoice 33 mins ago, looking back through my old emails the actual e-giftcard used to arrive 30-40 minutes after the invoice, so fingers crossed. I'm waiting for it before I head to Woolies.

        Thanks for the reply.

  • Any success with this currently?

    • I got denied trying to buy an iTunes GC with a WISH egift card at self checkout yesterday for the first time :(

Using a physical wish gift card to buy Ebay gift cards and got denied.

      • they have killed all loopholes now. Even buying GC via Woolworths credit card has stopped working. Cancelled my credit card same day.

        • If this is true good on you for cancelling your card

If you can figure out a justify to why it shouldn't be blocked then maybe they will reconsider unblocking it. Email them.

figure out a reason to justify***

  • Quick related question. Have a few WW eGift cards and wondering what’s the best way combined them all into say one card so I don’t have to keep entering card details on the machine? Thanks in advance

    • +1

      No chance.

    • +1

      use Wow money app

      • With the app, still have to enter the individual card no.s on the eftpos machine though..

        • +1

If you can consolidate them, you still have to enter all the numbers once.

          • @Neoika: Was hoping if there is a way to combine all the eGift cards into the one card so I only have one card no. to use on the eftpos machine

@ilovefullprice: There used to be but I believe they have changed their rules and regulations.

              • @[Deactivated]: Ok thanks, it’s a pity with that.

When paying for Woolworths online purchases, does the website allows us to pay with multiple Woolworths eGift cards or could only just use one?

                • +1

@ilovefullprice: I'm pretty sure you can pay with multiple egiftcards. I had a couple of low value egiftcards last year and I used these plus a high value gift card to pay for an online order I made only because I had a really good targeted offer.

  • I have no problems topping up my Opal card using a Woolworths and Wish egift cards

    • Can you do this at any cashier check-outs or only the special ones designated for Opal?

Was doing a full shop and threw in a $50 Netflix card with the rest of the groceries. Tried using a $100 Wish Gift eCard and no dice.

    Tighten up on Rewards redemption.

"On 7 August 2019 there will be an update to the Terms & Conditions. Changes will impact Woolworths Dollar redemption on gift cards."

On what purchase can I not redeem my balance?

Woolworths Dollars cannot be redeemed on purchases made in store or online for all gift cards (including Woolworths WISH Gift Cards, e-gift cards and iTunes) smoking products, mobile recharge, Woolworths Mobile, travel cards, tickets, delivery charges, Carpet Care, woolworthsflowers.com.au, Pre-Order Kiosks, on a charge account, BIG W Photos, BIG W eBay, BIG W Afterpay and lay-by purchases, lay-by fees and in Tasmania.

The good change is Rewards can be used on fuel purchase at Woolies own servos. I think this has been a while.

    • WHAT…. I can't use it in Tassie?!?!
