  • Don't forget to use UniDays coupons if you can get them ;)

$194 plus $10 delivery at CameraPro so not a huge bargain.

    • FYI this is definitely not a huge bargain as the catch model is grey import (warranty through catch) whereas CameraPro is genuine australian stock (canon warranty and should be returnable to Camerapro as well)

This one or the 40mm f2.8? CameraPro is selling it for $182

If you need 24mm, you should buy 24mm lens.

Do you need a 40mm, buy the 40mm one. I mean, they are two different tools.

However Canon EF 50mm/1.8 is probably a better option than that 40mm.

    • 40mm one would be better for future proofing.

This 24mm is for EFS(crop sensor) where as the 40mm is an EF which is suitable for both full frame and crop sensor(APS-C)

      • Sounds good in theory, but eventually switching to a larger format is not fait accompli and could leave you with a focal length you may not particularly like very much on an APS-C sensor.

      • I didn't notice 28mm is EFS. Then it's only for EFS Canons, like CityEnd suggested.

On EFS Canons this lens will be 28mm.
On EFS Canons 40mm EF will equal to 64mm lens.

But who cares if you can get 50mm/1.8.

        • On EFS Canons this lens will be 28mm

          No. It Will be 38mm.

I already have the 50mm 1.8, great for portrait in low light. But not really sharp and versatile for outdoor use, also very limited for macros.
The reason why I asked is because 24mm and 40mm are very similar.

  • At this stage I am waiting to see what Nikon and Canon announce regarding their mirrorless systems. If the adapters don't work almost as well as native it's going to make all older lenses less valuable. Particularly if they decide to kill of DSLR in the next few years.
