Finding Your OzBargain Twin - Similar Users

With spotify and Google Play music one thing I've always wanted is to find those users who thumbs up the same music you do. The same could be done in Ozbargain for those who vote the same as you do or add up deals that you vote for per user and rank it. So those who you users who post deals you consistently vote up for perhaps you could subscribe to them.

What would be the use of it? As well as deal discovery perhaps if you were selling something and everyone had similar pricing you would sell to the person most similar to you.

What other AI and machine learning features do you think would be useful for the ozbargain website?

    I'd imagine it would be quite hard for Ozbargain staff to do this (only a few)

      There's machine learning libraries being released for free by Google. Amazon does it but I understand it's a multibillion dollar company.

      I think there is movie lens which is based on the same idea for movie ratings.

          @brisdaz: Nice. I am on Catch Connect 0.99c plan but I finished that so now I can't make calls but can receive them.

    We could make it a site where your bargain preferences are matched up with others and then your photos are sent to each other… You meet with your ozbargained-match and go on a date. The first couple to get married win a gold membership to the site.

    However, imagine if you match up with Kath Armstrong from cheapskates Australia and you have to go dumpster-diving every night for dinner, or wash your clothes with her home-made 0.4c/wash washing detergent that was rated 'Australia's worst washing detergent - worse than water alone' by A Current Affair.

      You'd have value your time really low to even bother making your own laundry detergent. Just buy it when half price and you have a spend $x amount for xx points deal, then pay with a discounted giftcard.

    We did implement that feature a few years ago as a one-day only experiment. Maybe not finding your OzBargain Twin, but still doing quite a bit of calculation in the backend to match up users.

    Forgot to renew the domain but we might still have the code somewhere…

      It would be useful. I'm pretty sure my ex broke up with me because I only wanted to eat at 50% off places.

      Plus side: without her, now all my excursions are half price!

      Any news on this Scotty?

      I want to pay it back to Ozbargain by transacting or giving away free stuff to those who contribute to deals that I've voted on or who post deals that users similar to me have voted on.

      No news is bad news.

      I guess it's not a priority :(

      It's a shame as it would help motivate people to contribute to the site.
