Go for the Bunnings one. I have both Bunnings ones and Aldi ones. The Aldi ones did not last long for me, they (two) were rusted after a year and a bit, they ended up on the verge for the junk collection in July. The Bunnings ones are still going strong without any sign of rust. Not the same quality.

    • Bugger to read this as I was more keen on the Aldi colour. But appreciate the advice dodged a bullet!

Ricky, I've had my Aldi ones for 3 years now. No rusting whatsoever.

        • To be fair, it could have been the fertiliser i used that caused them to rust, but i need to use fertiliser for my veggies to grow and the same fertiliser was used in the Bunnings garden beds too. I am still using the Bunnings garden beds right now.

        • @jd:

          what fertilizer are you using?

All of these beds are power coated so should be the same

only way it would rust is the paint got removed.

        • Thanks for the yang to the yin rodripa, after seeing the further discussion fertiliser probably won't be an issue for me, I was going to use it as a loose border around a tree planted by the council which is quite small still, and the Aldi colour matches the Ironstone colorbond I have gone with the rest of the house at the front. For $20 bucks I'll give it a crack, plus I've never been to an Aldi yet, so I'll pop that cherry for this! Thanks all for the discussion!

        • Mostly NPK and dynamic lifter. The paint on all 4 internal walls flaked off and rusted badly. I did not know that until i had to empty the soil to move all raised garden beds to our new house in March, that when i discovered the 2 Aldi ones were rusted and deformed.
I can definitely say it is not as good as the bunnings one. The Aldi one is thiner. If you have them side by side, you will see the difference. I bought the Aldi ones because it was $10 cheaper than Bunnings. Well wasted $40.

  • Get the iron wood from bunnings -

2.4m in length get 3 pieces and get them to cut it by:
    - 120cm - 4 pieces
    - 60cm - 4 pieces

Screw them all by yourself and you have a more solid lasting vege patches. (don't go for any treated wood)

    • Actually, ALL of the Ironwood Sleepers are treated wood.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/search/products?q=ironwood

The "Classic Treated" are CCA treated - not appropriate for vegetable garden.

The "Sienna Treated" are treated but not with CCA and are indicated safe for vegetable gardens.

3 sleepers as you suggest would be about $60.

      • Price on bunnings site shows $5.98 so shouldn't it be just $18 for 3, why $60?

        • I linked a search for "ironwood" on the Bunnings site, the product as suggested by Ferret. There is nothing listed for $5.98 in that search result.

          3 pcs of Sienna Ironwood 2.4m 200x50mm are $18.82ea or close to $60 for 3pcs. https://www.bunnings.com.au/ironwood-200-x-50mm-2-4m-sienna-…

        • @seb: Thanks, I don't see this product on my desktop. Looks like website hides the product based on location or something.

These garden beds are open from the bottom right?
Any suggestions for closed bottom garden beds, or garden bed liners?

    • May I ask why? If you want to line garden beds, they are usually lined with geotextile - allows water through but keeps the soil in place - or with Builder's plastic - retains the water and it will eventually start to swamp-ify.

      • Where do I acquire this mysterious "geotextile" you speak of?

      • Can line it with weed mat - water will filter through.

For placing garden bed on concrete in a patio

    • line the bottom with layers of newspaper ;)

  • cant see it too clearly but this one claims safety edges, whilst the Aldi ones look a bit sharp
Someone commented on the Aldi post, that you could scrape yourself with the Aldi one

    • no you won't/can't.

the aldi also has safety edge
