  • Can GST be claimed back via TSR? Tax invoice? I assume not.

made by foxconn, so same line that builds iphones and many others , software is android one so clean android like pixel ….. you will get more OTA updates for this than many chinadroids, comes with oreo and they have pie too now, band 28 and nfc ….

i think the design of mobile phones is fairly straight forward if they use qualcomm, and google does the software …..

      • Again, Nokia doesn't have Pie yet. They will have Pie update next month. OTA is not from Google, Google does not do the software anymore than they do for all other androids, evidently you don't have Google Camera App as default. You have Nokia camera app as default which doesn't hold a candle in comparison, and need to install Google camera app apk.

Somehow people interpret Android One totally wrong. Android One is handled by phone makers, they just promise to interfere less with base OS provided by Google. Google sends out OS and security update to all makers the same. Just that makers who choose to inject their custom skins find it HARDER to provide same update, obviously because they have to take their own software into account.

I'd hate to imagine what you surround yourself with if you think having a Nokia is socially unacceptable.

      • -6

I surround myself with quality products

        • looks like nokia and ericsson will be brands that roll out 5g now huawei and zte are excluded by the gov ….so you wouldn’t use 5g in the future ?

reality is the nokia telco carrier equipment and nokia handsets are different companies …hmc bought the naming rights from microsoft for nokia handsets, one of the condition was foxconn was used to make them, and android one as operating system means they do very little coding beyond the hardware abstraction layer.

No idea what your point is nokia has always been great even when they ran windows OS, it was only the OS then that was the letdown.

      • -3

        nokia has always been great

So they were so great they went out of business.

I don't know anything about new Nokia's other than they seem to be overpriced for their specs.

Nokia has exceptional build quality. Having used this phone in store the camera and build feels excellent and I'd highly recommend this phone. They were sold by Microsoft because MS got out of the phone game and went to a joint Finnish and Chinese venture. Nokia needs traction but they are making awesome mid range phones.

        • If you dont know anything then why are you commenting?

    • yeh…….
love to see Nokia coming back from the dead.
good old times where you are like a king when you own the smallest Nokia.

Too bad they went the Synbian way which killed them.

  • Dayum this phone sounds nice - not in the market for one, but if I were this would be very tempting…

I just bought one of these tonight from eGlobal for $446 delivered: https://www.eglobalcentralau.com/nokia-7-plus-4gb-64gb-dual-…

Apparently they are run by the same mob.

Only issue with the one I bought is potentially going to be GST, they didn't put it on the invoice so I may have to fork it out when it goes through customs :(

    • So it may work out more expensive? I mean you might have to pay an extra 44.60?

      • +1

Yes, I am taking the chance that they simply won't check at the border.. Probably a dumb move on my part, but we'll see how it goes.

I believe (probably incorrectly) that the ATO is relying on the retailers (Amazon, eBay, etc.) to collect GST and remit it to the Government, rather than inspecting every package thoroughly.

Either way, if I fail, I fail.. thought I'd test the system :)

        Edit: their FAQ states:

17.1 To simplify the process of buying internationally, eGlobal Central AU chooses to handle the process of custom clearance for customers in AU and New Zealand. By purchasing products through eglobal central AU, you authorize eGlobal Central AU to make arrangements for clearance of customs on your behalf for the products in your order. As importing products from overseas can be a hassle for most of our customers, we arrange this process for you. We then provide you with fast local shipping to deliver the goods to your door. As a result, prices shown on this website are the final total you have to pay to have the order delivered to your door, without any customs delay.

Curious… not sure how they will pull this off

          I found the next section
17.2 We won't tell the ATO, if you don't tell the ATO lolz kthanx bye

  • Great phone after dealing with a dying Nexus 6P.

  • From a OnePlus 3 to this. Very happy.

Performance is fine, battery lasts twice as long.

It's running 8.1 with August security updates. Should be getting Pie very soon.

  • AUD404 from Joybuy incl GST & delivery

    • To be fair to DWI/eGlobal, they ship via courier (DHL, etc.) pretty quickly. Joybuy is something like 12 days + 20-30 for delivery.
