Anyone eaten here before and can recommend?

On a side note, slightly deceptive counting the steamed rice as 1 course…

Went there a few years ago and enjoyed it. I recall having sushi, Saporro, and some tempura dishes. Those were normal size dishes. I don't know what the sizes of tapas style japanese food that they serve are so it's a bit difficult to assess value. There are no quantities listed in the description (e.g. how many pieces of sashimi or tempura, what kind of sashimi). If you ate a normal meal there with drinks it would cost you over $39 but would you be full with sharing 6 dishes with another person, don't know.

    • Are there any 'all you can eat' Japanese restaurants ?

        http://www.yamagata.com.au/
Heres a place in Doncaster, $38 a person.

        • awesome… not too far from me…

i'll see if i can bankrupt them one evening soon… :)

      • Haven't been to these in a while but they did/do have all you can eat:
        - Yamagata Teppanyaki
        - J's Surf n Turf (yes…this is the name of a japanese restaurant)

      • J's Surf n Turf in Brighton is really good too… except the bright fluoro lights kill the atmosphere! :D

        • I heard that place had a fire… So its closed atm…

        • It failed a bunch of food inspections and was ordered to close until all fines were paid. That was my favorite place too =[

      • I'm always on the lookout for all you can eat restaurants and the only (Japanese) one I've been to in Melbourne is Torimatsu on King Street, Melb. $33.80 for a male, $30.80 for a female but it's just BBQ.

When I was in the US and Canada there were a few all you can eat sushi restaurants. Those were great and fresh sushi as well.

Yamagata looks good. May have to try it, how's the quality of the all you can eat?

        • $33.80 for a male, $30.80 for a female

          LOL… that's discrimination !!!

        • Torimatsu is awesome - I have not had the all you can eat though. Their bento boxes are of exceptional quality

    • Hey Neil,

Myself and one of the other guys here at Zizzle had a chance to try some of these dishes the other day and the Izakaya dishes are the size of large entrees. Very generous.

For example the Tempura had 7-10 pieces, the Sashimi was in 8-10 bits and the Wafu steak was about 1 1/2 CM thick and great size for an entree steak.

It will definitely be enough to feed a couple of people!

      Cheers!

one of the perks of the job… :)

  • This resto was pretty good imo. But it was around 1+ year i haven't been there. So not sure today.
