Yamaha YAS-108B 120W Soundbar $249 ($100 off RRP) C&C (Or + Delivery) @ The Good Guys

240

This is a very good price being the latest 2018 model just released 2 months ago. It is also the shortest in length so the footprint is really nice without cluttering the place. I have the previous model, and I must say for the price, it would be considered the best entry soundbar in my opinion, as it has HDMI in and out with latest specs, a subwoofer out which I connect with my own additional subwoofer. I feel that having the option of a wired subwoofer is better than a specific wireless model, as I can switch subwoofers if one is faulty and I want to upgrade easily.

Good reviews for this model

  • do you think its a better buy than the $200 samsung one from harvey norman?

In my opinion, the Yamaha is much better in terms of sound quality and connectivity. The Yamaha has HDMI in and out, 4K pass through and support HDR. The Samsung is good for it's price and wireless subwoofer, but that's about it. Unless you want to pair it with compatible Samsung LED TVs, I would go with the Yamaha.

      • I listened to both Yamaha and the Samsung in the store. Samsung sounded heaps better with the subwoofer..! Yas 108b was great improvement from 107b. But Samsung sound was much cleaner, better lows and highs.

@bettelbum whichsubwoofer you use to connect to your soundbar. i have got the yas 107 as wel and want to get a subwoofer

I used an old Magnat Alpha 20A Subwoofer which I got from Gumtree for less than $100. Actually any decent branded subwoofer is good, but it should preferably have adjustable crossover. Yamaha soundbars usually have a low frequency range of 60Hz to 160Hz, so setting your subwoofer crossover at around 70Hz would provide a good overlap for the bass to transit to the sub for optimal sound.

    • Was anyone able to get this with the ebay discount / Phenom code?

      • Yup. No problems just now.

  • This or the Yamaha YHT-1840B for $125-150 more that is the question ….

  • Anyone got this can comment on the sound quality?
I'm only using it for PS4 and watching movie
Currently using the Sony MHCV7D speaker tower for it and quite unhappy with the sound.

    • Hey Wayne,

I happened to have the Sony V7D. The sound quality for that speaker is rather muffled. I have the previous Yamaha soundbar model which I used for my bedroom tv. Without doubt much better than the Sony as the Yamaha is much clearer and overall sound is cleaner, and if you add a separate subwoofer (which you can buy a decent branded 2nd hand from Gumtree), the explosions on your games would definitely come alive!

      • Thanks for your recommendation.
I just bought the Yas-108 this morning. Now I'll just need a decent sub, do you have any recommendations? I don't need anything to fancy, only use it for movie and game
