Is the 1st gen the "global" version? Two mates of mine bought it from the last sale and it's not allowed to hook into the Mainland China server, and therefore not enabled with Zoned Cleanup/Go function.

The one I purchased a while ago was the Chinese version and it hooks into Mainland China's server without an issue.

    • Same issue here, bought gen 1 recently, doesn't work over China mainland, annoying to lose that extra functionality.

      • Would be nice if this was addressed by Gearbite or OP and maybe adjust their listing accordingly; until Xiaomi does something about it.

        • Thanks for your feedback, Please contact xiaomi by email at [email protected], it is good to let them know by customers.i will contact manufacture about this and find out if they have any solution.

Found that you can use zoning if you use Flolevac (third party app) use your Xiaomi credentials and Chinese server.

        • Just talked to manufacture, As xiaomi did not request zone clean for Singapore Serve. Please send request to xiaomi, they will consider. I will submit this request to their team as well, hopefully they can accept our request.

        • @Gearbite: This is the reply I got from Xiaomi.

          Greetings from Xiaomi!

        • @cashie: Hi,Thanks for that, they may not understand your point, this is not hardware warranty issue but software thing. Hardware Warranty will cover by us. As we have been adviced by roborock that Xiaomi does not add zoned clean feature at Singapore serve today. So we stop to bring Global version at this moment, all new stocks in this listing are Chinese version, They will be able to connect mainland serve. We will continue commumicate with xiaomi and hope they can update zoned clean feature.

        • @Gearbite: That's good for those buying now, I ordered one last week, I'm still waiting for it to arrive, I'm guessing this will be a global version?

        • @Gearbite: i received my second gen today. Seems like it is global stock and won't connect to mainland China server. Also looks like someone played football with my box. Product is damaged inside and I'll be sending a message via eBay

        • @julz: second generation only have global version, can only connect to Singapore server, if have any damage, please send by eBay message, we will follow up.

        • @Gearbite: ok thanks. I have to use Mi Home with Singapore server on a spare phone.

      • Please look into this and let us know Gearbite. I bought my gen1 based on ozbargain comments about zoned cleanup being enabled

        • Hi Dingleman,

I have try to communicate with xiaomi, and they told me zoned clean feature will available around Oct for global version.

    • We have Chinese version in stock now, no global version at this moment. You should able to use zone clean by connecting Mainland China Serve.

I got my second generation version from the deal a couple of weeks ago and I really like the vacuum. It does a decent job (not great but decent) on sucking up dirt but its logic programming to cover all of a floor is great. So its a good tool for maintaining the cleanliness of your floors with no effort by yourself except emptying its little bin after a run. In the first week I would say it didn't save any time because I was too fascinated watching it work. Build quality of the vacuum is good, mobile app shows you what it is doing. Has a weird bug on sending push notifications hours after it finishes a job. I have a 1-2cm step up into my kitchen which doesn't slow it down. It's ability to go back to base and recharge is very neat. It would be cool to put a camera on top of it to get vacuum vision and chase my cat.

    • Do you have carpet or tile?

It would be fairly easy to mount a GoPro on top I assume!

      • I have both carpet and tile, also three story house. It does a decent job on both. To do the other levels, I have to pick it up, press one button at it goes off and does its thing. It always comes back to the spot where I put it down looking for its dock. I haven't tried the mopping function. I have a cat so great at getting lots of cat hair. Also, it goes underneath my bed where I can't get to with a normal vacuum. There are lots of video reviews on Youtube that I watched to convince me to get it.

Is the 2nd gen now worth getting given that it's not double the price like it used to? Is the mopping function great?

    • This! Would also like to know about the mopping function

      • +2

From my experience reading the replies to this comment, it seems everyone agrees that the mop function is akin to it simply dragging a wet cloth along the floor.

The mop function does not justify the additional ~$100 cost. Instead, it's from its increased suction and storage capacity and its improved ability to traverse over bumps.

The Gen2 is also designed to have its filter reused (the Gen1 is designed to be replaced, but you could get away with vacuuming it and reusing it.) which would also save you the cost of replacing the filter over the long run.

        • +1

Gen 2 filters fit Gen 1 so you can always upgrade to washable. Having said that though, now that the cost difference is less signficant these days I'd probably buy Gen 2, even though I've got no complaints with my Gen 1

    • +1

yes i think it worth it, i only use mopping for timber floor its great.

      • Can you put cleaning solutions in the water or is it pure water only?

        • It's literally just a water tank in the back that you refill and it soaks a little towel on the bottom, so you could probably put in solution

    • I would imagine the mop would be effective for maintaining the cleanliness but not for heavy cleans. Similar use case as Dyson V6, clean often, clean less.

I bought a 6 month old Gen 1 on gumtree last week. Love it and recommend it. The intelligent mapping is fantastic. Unfortunately my bed is just a tad bit to short and it can't get undernearth it w/o getting stuck. just going to set up some pool noodles around the edges of it so it doesn't get stuck underneath there. Beyond that, great machine

    • Agree with junbelieveable that is great machine. Actually bought mine from this mob I think. Wife absolutely loves it . Highly recommend.

    • I have the same problem with my couch. I've added 16mm thick timber to each foot to raise it up so vac doesn't get stuck. If you're just using a standard bed base then you might get some longer legs pretty cheap. I noticed a big box of them at my local op shop last week for 50c each.

  • steel beads, soybeans, dust, millet

Don't you hate it when you spill steel beads, soybeans and millet?

    • I think whatever happens in bedrooms is a private matter.

  • I have the 2nd Gen from Gearbite. It wants the Singapore server. This may not be much of a big deal for many, but for me it drives me crazy because all of my other Xiaomi devices in the MiHome app work on the China server. So I have to log in to different servers for different devices. If I knew this, I would have probably bought the Chinese version instead.

    • I have that problem too. The first several months i bought it, i could use it in China server with other products. Then one day, it forced me to other server and drove me crazy.

  • Hi Rep, any deals on the roidmi handheld vacuum cleaner?

  • Thanks! Been waiting for a sale on the 2nd gen! Can’t wait!

  • Worth getting the combo set for an extra $30? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-Roborock-S50-Robot-Vac…

  • Just bought the second gen vacuum. Will be mainly used for downstairs on the tiles in the kitchen, meals and hallway. Hopefully the mopping function is somewhat useful to help clean up after my baby and toddler. Have the first gen one which we use upstairs on the carpet multiple times each week and love it!

    • Let me know how they compare.

Don't mind paying more if the 2nd gen does a better job and for me can climb inclines much better.

We have some hills and bumps around the house mainly where one section of carpet meets another at different room entrances.

Also the kitchen and rest of the house has a bit of a bump. Sound be able to climb it but if the 2nd gen does it better then I will get that.

      • I'm using my second gen on tiles mostly for the added mopping function. Key issue with second gen is it doesn't work on the mainland China server which is an issue if you have other Xiaomi devices. The second gen doesn't climb up to my rugs which is good as they're thick pile anyway and I don't want it to vacuum them or accidentally mop it.
