Anyone thinks the same as I think it looks like?

    • What does it look like?

        a petrol pump nozzle?

        • This! From the photo I thought it was a joke gift to prank someone into thinking they'd driven off with the pump handle still in their car!

    • +4

Yes, yes I do. That was the first thing that came to mind…

Clicked for the comments, not the bargain. And yes it does. A big red one.

        98RON

        • Hopefully they make the 98RON JEREMY version.

          You know, for big people.

        • @Necron: it would be bigger

        • @sjp770: So big you see fear in the eyes of people at the servo?

Those striker plates look like they do not take a lot of torque strain.

This device applies a lot of torque strain.

    • I've wondered the same thing.
I've seen steps mounted the same way (to reach roof racks etc).

Has anyone ever used anything that mounts this way?

      • Used this device for a few years when taking an elderly relative out. Never been a problem.

It's more for steadying, than any major weight going on it. Same as arm of chair - if you're lifting yourself out with it, you're doing it all wrong.

Physiotherapist recommended it & got it supplied free.

    • +2

Striker plates are not designed for this and with minimal force will go out of alignment making the door difficult or impossible to close.

*Not a car guy. Know this from an experience someone else had.

Seems they don't damage all cars! (see comment by @Infidel below)

        • My comments above & below on actual use of this device for those with mobility impairment.

Door strikers (on the pillar this slips into) are quite robust. Just try moving it! Otherwise doors would easily open with all the everyday impacts from driving that put strains on the body.

Have used for years with no problems. Can't see correct use would cause any issues.
The device is only in place & in use for a few minutes per trip, installed after opening the door.

(See above comment regarding the need to learn correct ways to get out of chairs, cars etc to minimise force & guard against injury. People with mobility issues are usually taught this by a physiotherapist.)

  • Could this look any more like a dildo?

Available free under some government funding programs. Received free for assisting elderly relative.

So I've got one in my car. It does look suss😁

        Well done.

Hi rep.. Do you have any large ones in black? Maybe one about 12" long. Asking for a friend.

  • -2

I would not let this thing anywhere near my car, guaranteed scratches.

    • +4

If you or your loved ones had mobility issues ♿ requiring this device, I'd say you would look at things a little different. It can save them having major falls & injiries. Also helps carers avoid back & other injuries when transferring person in & out of car.

Have used this for years assisting relative in & out of my car with 0 scratches - guaranteed. Same with his carer's new car.

There are more important matters than a little scratch to your precious car😱

      • Good to know they don't damage all cars! (see my comment above)

        • Read your previous comment earlier - never been a problem as I said above it.
Valid concerns. Don't want doors daylight close due to damage to striker.

Also does not contact the paintwork on the pillar inside the car.

  • Haha No Regrets eh Barnseee? You've got a few more rivers to cross before you crack this crowd.

  • Watched an old guy get out of the drivers seat of his Subaru one day using this device. It was the most troubling thing to watch.

This poor guy who could barely stand up under his own power was in control of a near 2 tonne projectile… his more able bodied wife had to go around and help him out of the car as well as using this handle in the door striker.

  • What a load of shit!! my mother has MS and has trouble most of the time being mobile but for you to try and sell this snake oil piece of crap is beyond reason.

    • Sorry to read about your mother. A friend's mother has had MS for decades, confined to motorised wheelchair. Still participates as a member of local community in so many ways. But everyone is different. It is stressful for family. Hope your mother is able to enjoy her life.

This device has been very useful for my elderly relative getting in & out of my car. He has needed assistance to get upright for years, now this is handy for transfer into wheelchair as he gets older. But like all aids for those with mobility issues, it depends on the person's needs & abilities.

This was recommended by his physiotherapist & occupational therapist. So unsure what makes this handy device "snake oil" or "crap"?

If this device is suitable, it may be available with government funding (as happened for my relative) or bought cheaper elsewhere. Products for mobility are never cheap😢

  • Great idea but wonder how long it takes before your door closing would be affected as the latch catcher shifted by the this handle .

    • Hasn't been a problem in years of use as I commented above.
