Ozbargain's favourite tablet is back. It's been a while since this tablet has been posted here as there were issues with Gearbest shipping it to Australia. Looks like these issues are all sorted now.

New customers will get an extra $5 off when using PayPal.

I am using this tablet right now and have found it better to use than my old Samsung tab.

    Attractive package but confusing for me;

*Can i make a call via the tablet?
This is wifi version, you can't make a call.

?Q Can this item call in and call out?
A This item supports sim card ,so it can call someone .

    • +6

I've got both the 4g and wifi versions of this tablet. Can confirm that the 4g version can make phone calls and the wifi one can't.

      • +2

It must be a giant phone when you use audio only call, imagine holding that near your ear.

        • -3

Guess it would be status symbol being used as a phone, but then I have seem people walking down the street holding phone vertical as if trying to shove it into their ears not realising speaker at the other end …..maybe the 8" phone should have featured in "crazy rich Asians"

        • @garage sale:
          Crazy wanna be rich Asian

      • how about the phone/internet connection with the 4g tablet, chibot? and your sim is from which provider? receptions good?

    • You can call using skype etc

  • Is there a non 4g, wifi only, tablet that is in the same family as this?

  • +6

Good tablet with stock. There are far better LineageOS 14.1 and 15.1 unofficial roms, along with a new AOSPExtended one that make this thing fly.

  • +1

extremely well built tablet. I have wifi version, and it is very good.

  • +1

was looking to buy this months ago, now i have 6.8" mobile phone but dont mind bigger screen.
will definitely use this as main and only mobile phone not tablet.

dont care about people see me, i watch movies and play games 90% of the time

  • +1

Anyone mounted this to the dash of a car for running with Android Auto?

    • speaking of dash mounting, can anyone recommend a good mount?

  • Just make sure you're happy with 3G as I believe the 4G bands are limited on this model in some areas?

    • oh yes thanks. obviously no band 28 but im fine as long others exits

    • Doesnt work on either 3g or 4g for me :/

  • Is it $A189 delivered or do you need to factor in an additional 10% for GST on top of that ?

It's getting hard to generally work out (other than on an site by site basis) which ones are adding GST on top of the advertised price if you're buying from AU vs which ones aren't… or just folding it into the buy price.. or require you to pay this yourself before you can collect (?)

    • +3

Joybuy, AliExpress and Banggood add GST. Gearbest do not.

      • So how does it work?

        • +1

The sellers that are enforcing GST will add 10% ontop at checkout. The sellers who are not won't charge you an extra 10% and that's the end of that.

The new GST laws put the responsibility for orders under $1000 at the seller and not customs.

        • @Clear: So if Gearbest doesn't collect GST with ordering, how would I pay for GST for this product?

        • +1

@monchee: If they're not collecting GST then you're not paying GST for it. Simple.

        • +1

@Clear: Welp, thanks for making things clear. :D

        • +1

          @monchee: should have said:
Welp, thanks Clear for making things clear. :D

        • @Clear:
So to Australia. Gear best is illegally selling to Australia?

        • @nerdyfred07: In the ATO's eyes yes. Has no impact on us (the buyers) whatsoever.

        • @Clear: why do they even try to enforce that Then lol. I guess rules out big name players but doesn't stop Chinese retailers lol. Thanks Clear

  • Anyone purchased a silicone/TPU case for one of these? Do the WiFi (TB-8703F) and LTE (TB-8703X) use the same case?

  • Just need the wifi version. Any good deal for that?

    • Ditto!
I'd order one now at ~$150AU price point…

      • me too

  • Looking for advise.. I need one for office so I can take notes draw image that can be saved as document that I can share through email or save . Can this be useful to meet need? Has anyone used it for that purpose? I can't afford surface that most of my colleague using so looking for options

    • +1

most things like the surface have a special stylus that communicates with the table and send things like angles and pressure … this allows you to write fast, small and accurate, otherwise you write big letters and it has to be converted to text (aka on my old Samsung tablet).
options to look at would be ipad 2018 ($436) and either the stylus from apple ($120) or logitech crayon ($65) or Chinese copy ($30).

      • +1

What about the crazy expensive samsung tablets which dont get firmware updates

        • +1

Turned on an old samsung tablet i had …the tablet upgraded fron android 5 all the way to android 7 …i was very surprised …

      • Thanks.. was looking for something under 300.. looks like I need to wait more

    • +1

Anyone who owns one can comment on this? My main reason for purchase is to have access to data on the go without using another phone for a hotspot, and make calls if urgent. Limited reception or network quality would put me off.

      • yes really want to know if its frequencies are sufficient for australian usage (im fine without band 28)

  • How is the new customer paypal discount delivered? Do they email you a code?
update: nm, it's autoapplied on checkout fyi

  • I'd be all over this if we hadn't smashed our budget with other ozb deals this fortnight.

Has anyone had luck with an sd card greater than 64gb? Specs say that is the max size but I know other devices with similar limits handle more without any dramas.

    • I have this, and inserted 128GB as an expansion mode (can't remember the term, the one that the OS will regard this as a primary storage) and shows the ## of 16.00 GB and ## of 117GB. I think I filled about 7GB to the micro SD, thus can only tell you this.

  • Would the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 still be a far superior choice over this? I recently bought one but haven't opened it yet.

4GB/64GB & 6000mAh are no brainer advantages but what about these?

    Snapdragon 660 vs 625
    Adreno 512 vs 506

    Are those significant?

    • +2

Yes the Mi Pad 4 is definitely far superior. Far better CPU and graphics without a doubt. Antutu benchmarks for an SD625 is around 61,000 and 117,000 for SD660.

      • Convinced. thanks!

        • +1

Not to mention better display, better cameras, better WiFi and better Bluetooth to name a few.

        • @Clear: I'm getting the feeling its better

      • Yeh but the mi pad doesn't support Google play/Netflix etc :(

        • Getting Google Play on the tablet is the easy part

    • I'm tempted to get the Mi 4 plus

      • Yes the Plus looks awesome however this tablet is to be shared with myself and daughter, I didn't want her having a 10", easier to drop and break.

      • how much is it?

    • +1

Post July 1 2018 the world changed.

  • So this or the telcast M20 with 4Gb ram aand Android 8 advertised a few posts below?

    • +1

hard to compare, they have diff screen size that for me, is the massive factor to decide when buying tablet.
i mean if i need 10" then i wont even bother to look something with 8".
      they are just different.

i dont look at physical human but see whats inside someones' heart but this is a tablet……

    • Would Netflix work with the M20 though? I've heard alot of the Chinese ones don't support netflix/ play store which is the main reason I want a tablet anyway :(

  • reading on whirlpool it is strange looks like there are model of this tablet, both 4G.
    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2722911

    TB-8703X and TB-8703R
the R is not good. just beware

  • +1

I would give it a go if it comes to AUD 150 mark which would never happen lol.

  • How does this compare to the Nexus 7 v2?

  • I have this Tablet and 3g/4g doesn't work, im with optus network

    • Yea I am also having issues on optus… Won't connect on 3g. Has full signal but won't connect, 4g where available works fine thou. Weird.

  • Does this tablet have a good GPS?

  • FYI. Bought this item from this deal. Item arrived today. Box had broken seal. No attempt to re-seal.
All relevant items seem to be present though. Still. Not happy, Jan. :[

  • +1

This deal is back on. $135.99 USD =~$190aud.
100 units again. It isn't the cheapest price ever, but closely matches this deal.
