  • waiting for Xmas sales to pull the trigger on this bad boy… Anyone aware if Acer has plans to replace it with a newer model?

edit: or in other words, any ideas on future proofness of given monitor?

    • The 200hz version (x35) was supposed to be out late 2017, Acer has gone quiet on that model.

There are definitely newer larger, higher refresh rate screens coming - 40" at 166hz etc - but right now this and the Alienware are it at this resolution in 34" and above.

Nvidia BFD or something is coming - but the prices are likely to be crazy high initially.
I get the feeling the price of the Acer is dropping - $1399 every day price at Wireless 1 now - suspect that might be the street price now - not the inflated $1529 you are paying here before discounts.

There is an LG 35" that is supposedly not far away that is 144 or 166 hertz - on paper looked better than this but availability and pricing is unknown.

I chose this over the Alienware AW3418DW for the lower price + the 10 bit (8 + 2 FRC) in the Acer versus the 8 bit panel in the Alienware. Colour gamut of Acer is 1.07 billion colours. Gamut of Alienware is 16.7 million or something like that.

Whether you can actually see this I dont know, but I do know professional grade monitors like the U3014 offer the 1.07 billion….

The Alienware has 14ms total lag whereas the Acer has 27ms - that might be a dealbreaker with the Acer for some.

Bear in mind too that even if a new 200hz monitor comes out, will your graphics card push out more than 120fps at high resolution?

If not, you wont be getting any benefit from the jump from 120hz to 200hz while gaming.

      • 65" BFD looks amazing.. I read an article claiming "double the X27 cost". Seeing at though that is $3k I still see way more value at the Acer for $1k right now.

Is the new LG panel supposed to be HDR? Or OLED even? Might be a more realistic next upgrade.

Models are being held back after quality control issues, at least that is what I heard a few months back. Also accounted for the delay in the 27inch 4k panels.

I highly recommend the above screen, partnered with a GTX1080ti. I have put 1000hours+ into mine in the last year and from both a gaming and a spread sheeting capacity, it is brilliant. Don't be put off by the back light bleed chat. It is there, but the panels brightness means you only would see it on boot up or if you like to stare at blank screen slides.

Best gaming experience you can have right now, until they make a TV or projector that can hit 100FPS.

    • which games have you been playing and how was it FramesPerSecond wise? I'm wondering if 1080ti would be sufficient to hit 100+ FPS at games like BF1 (BF5) on max settings.

Can confirm BF1 on Ultra is no problem for my 1080Ti and X34 (non-P) with G-sync off (why?? :P) it pushes out 130-140fps at 3440x1440

Nvidia tend to putout a doco you can refer too for the AAA games. There is a Reddit group Ultrawide Master Race who generally all have the 1080ti and list whether to choose ULTRA or CUSTOM and what to put.

I play ALOT of Destiny 2, which I have at Ultra and 120% Resolution, and it runs 85-100 on my Overclocked Gaming X 1080ti.

I have played Battlefield 1 campaign on Ultra, GTA 5, Tomb Raider and ROTR and all ran flawlessly.

Personally I aim for 90FPS with the highest specs. But for the twitch shooters, you could drop a few settings and get 100+ FPS with a simple google on the dependant graphic setting. (which always seem to be depth of field, resolution scaler and Shadows)…

  • Tempting! But then id need a new graphic card too so… Ill just keep dreaming :(

  • Wow, would be interesting to see the reviews https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2018/09/kogan-is-now-flogging-ult…
