Sony XAV-AX100 - Carplay and Android Auto Head Unit $377.32 + $7.95 Postage / Free Collect (Was $599) @ SuperCheap Auto eBay

PLENTY10

Hey All,

The Sony XAV-AX100 head unit is currently on sale at Supercheap Auto for $419.24 until 16/09/2018. + $9.95 postage.
Cheapest since last deal I can find ($399.20 - 20/12/17)

I've been eyeing it off but it kept showing no stores had stock near me in Vic and it wasn't available for delivery.
Just called Supercheap and was advised there's 200+ units available. So they must have restocked, Pickup still shows me none around me.

I ordered one and my postage was waived, unsure if its because I'm a member or something else, might apply to others.

Also bought my Fascia + Wiring from eBay, this store is participating with the 20% POLLEN Code and seems to have most AERPRO Harness'/Cables and other brand Fascia's/Cables.
I saved $43. https://www.ebay.com.au/usr/brandbeast?_trksid=p2047675.l255…

        • Around $120-$159 exclude parts, fascia and antenna adaptor
All in all was around 250-300 for everything

  • Does this display album art through android auto? or bluetooth?

    • It does through google music on android auto. Bluethooth i dont think so

      • It won't display album art using bluetooth

      • Do you know if the music is played through USB or Bluetooth?

So no built in navigation? Seems a bit expensive to me. Probably get something half the price that does the same thing from overseas.

It has carplay and android auto….

…and the beauty of these compared to a unit with built-in navigation:

        • When there is an Apple or Android OS update, you get new/improved features inc
        • Processing is done via your phone which is likely to get more upgrades than your car stereo over time
        • Mapping is as per Google or Apple maps versus manual mapping updates (if at all) with built-in nav
        • Traffic is taken into account for routing

The latter I use daily even when I know where I am going. I just want to see how long my trip will be and/or see if I need to adjust my normal route due to an incident.

    • So no built in navigation?

My car has built-in navigation. I never ever use it as it's so much easier to do on Google Maps (e.g. you can search for an address based on a business name), which also includes traffic updates and the ability to send your realtime location to others so they know how far away you are.

    • Erm, your phone does the Navigation. That's the whole point of the Android Auto / Apple CarPlay units.

I installed a XAV-AX200 last week. If seen this deal I would have gone for this unit. The 200 has a DVD slot & slightly better specs but otherwise identical. I installed in a VY S2 Berlina replacing a XAV-612BT that I had installed previously. The install was easy after buying a Aerpro fascia kit, harness and steering wheel control interface & it's 3.5mm cable. I had to change the ISO to Sony part of the harness as the AX100/200 have a smaller connector on the back which SuperCheap had in stock at my local. Otherwise the install went pretty smoothly. I used the included USB extension and run it to an area easily accessible in case I needed to change the USB to phone cable with out having to pull all the fascia off again. This has already proved useful as I did the firmware update after I'd installed the unit. Also means I change between CarPlay and Android Auto easily. A note for Android Auto it requires the hand brake cable from the to be connected or bypassed as the setup won't continue as it thinks you're in motion. I bypassed mine. Just connect the hand break cable from the harness to the ground cable. This works for most brnads except Alpine & Pioneer. To use the AX200 is fantastic, really loving CarPlay.

  • Great unit, however, it doesn't work that well with my Android Huawei P20 Pro

Lots of problems documented in Huawei range.

Voice control is sketchy, sometimes works sometimes doesn't. If a call comes in the music just goes off but no display of call. Other little problems but cannot really tell of how many features crippled without trying a full functioned Android phone. Tried with an iphone and has full functionality

    • I had a Huawei P9 and it was full of weird issues. Not the fault of the headunit IMO

      • Not the fault of the headunit IMO

Correct, this is across all Android play units, Something to do with Huawei's interface

  • Tempted! Does Android Auto support Spotify and Waze?

      yes works fine and automatically

2010 Corolla already has bluetooth phone connectivity - so there must be a microphone installed. Will this unit use that mic, or do i have to reinstall the one that comes with it?
    THank you

    • As far as I've read with this one and going by my knowledge of installing other head units in my past cars, you'll most likely lose that Mic functionality and have to install the one that comes with it.

      • Awesome, thanks for your help. I think i'll go for it, and try to do the install myself. What could go wrong? haha

  • I have 2010 Nissan dualis with rear sensors but no reverse camera. Can anyone please suggest what reverse camera to buy?
Will buy Sony xav ax100. Also what would be needed from accessories perspective.

Will get one of the installers to install as I have no idea how to

  • Looks like the eBay store is out of stock, I'm getting: "Please enter a quantity of 0 or less"

I pulled the trigger with this deal. Too good to resist. Been wanting to put CarPlay into my CJ Lancer for quite some time, and now that Waze and Google Maps is about to become available thru Carplay, the timing is pretty good. Still need to get my head around the harness cable / adaptor situation and the best place to buy them but I found a good video on YouTube for installing an aftermarket unit into a CJ Lancer so that should help.
