  • Charged in USD and final price jumps at the end due to "Tax Recovery & Booking Fee" which I'm pretty sure is no longer legal to do in Australia. e.g.

Room 1: Double Standard - Room Only $151.16

    $151.16 Subtotal
$38.63 Tax Recovery & Booking Fee
    $189.79 Total

  • Hi Gav,

Thank you for your comment. I will have our team look into that. Also, don't forget to use the Coupon Code "OZ10" to save 10% off your booking.

  • Hi Gav,

Per the Tax Recovery and Booking Fee:

Club 1 Hotels does not collect taxes for remittance to applicable taxing authorities. The tax recovery charges on prepaid hotel transactions are a recovery of the estimated taxes (e.g. sales and use, occupancy, room tax, excise tax, value added tax, etc.) that Club 1 Hotels pays to the hotel supplier for taxes due on the hotels’ rental rate for the room. The hotel suppliers invoice Club 1 Hotels for certain charges, including tax amounts. The hotel suppliers are responsible for remitting applicable taxes to the applicable tax jurisdictions. Club 1 Hotels does not act as co-vendor with the supplier with whom we book or reserve our members’ travel arrangements. Taxability and the appropriate tax rate vary greatly by location. The actual tax amounts paid by Club 1 Hotels to the hotel suppliers may vary from the tax recovery charge amounts, depending upon the rates, taxability, etc. in effect at the time of the actual use of the hotel by our members. We retain booking fees for facilitating exclusive wholesale rates resulting in substantial savings for our Members.

It's a US site and this is quite common with booking sites over there (e.g. Priceline NYOP, Last Minute Travel Club). In fact, paying at any physical store and they will add tax to the purchase price at the register.

    • Plus, we are a private members-only booking engine. Not available to the public.

Gav made a simple point. Why such a long/complex response?
