    Arigato

  • The US links don't seem to work. I tried amending the AU ones as well, but got the same error (page not found with pictures of dogs).

    • Thanks for letting me know. The audiobooks are AU only.

      • +3

The audiobooks have different URLs. I have fixed the links.

        • +1

          Thanks alvian.

@Taegukgi: Good job with the tables BTW. A great visual improvement and no more hunting the links. I appreciate the extra effort you put into the formatting.

        • Thanks for that! The US links work now.

    • Use a VPN. My Amazon US account was blocked from purchasing because it checked my location. Used a VPN and it worked on all the ebooks

      • +1

It wasn't a location issue, just the US URLs we're different. They have been updated (see above) and work fine now.

      • Is there a need for US account if you already have an aus one?

How come credit card info is needed to purchase free audio books? Am I the only one experiencing this problem?

    • +1

Me too. so I did not proceed.

      • +1

Me as well.. It's likely through a free trial from Audible.. that's why it asks for the card

      • I didn't either. Would love to be able to get around that.

    • Me too

    • I don't think you subscribe to the audible subscription service by downloading the audio books.

When I downloaded the app, it did try to sign me up the the free trial, but I just exited the prompt and the audio books were available in the library.

I think you can purchase books by themselves via audible.

    • +1

Nah, just add you card, it's $0 and it won't charge you.

There is a difference between the one that is from Audible, it will say something like:

      Audible Audiobook
      $0.00
      Free with Audible trial

These one actually are listed as:
      Audible Audiobook
      $0.00
      Available for immediate download

      • I prefer not to add a card in case I accidentally buy something that I think is free but is not.

        • Just remove it after? I have a card added and it usually require you to enter your account password if you buy something that require $ otherwise it just add it without one if it's free.

I never spent a cent learning, just anki, tae kim, yomichan and shitloads of reading. 100% worth

    • +3

Haha yeah I think really you can do absolutely anything, the real key you hit is "shitloads of reading". There is absolutely no alternative to brute force when learning a language. Particularly all the damn conjugation in Japanese…damn it drives me up the wall!

      • られられられる

      • Wait until you meet my friend German

      • Don't forget the 'immersion technique'… where you get away from the major cities and towns in Japan and travel into the hinterlands of rural Japan or the isolated islands where English is neither heard, spoken or read and where the locals don't come up to you and want to 'plactice their Engrish' on you. Then it's only Japanese or hand pointing only (good luck with that)… ;)

        • Haha I think your reference to "plactice" is more an accent thing, than the language itself…and losing and accent is a whole other kettle of fish!

I actually find English in Japan is quite widely spoken! We were driving through Shikoku and fairly often stopped at what was little more than someone's house and even there they have basic tourist English.

But yeah immersion is the best way to learn! I'm hoping I can a quit my job soon and go.

        • I tried to teach myself Japanese on/off for a year or two then decided to minor in it at Uni. I have now completed 2 units of Japanese and had 2 ~3week trips to Japan, almost entirely away from Tokyo and the big cities (although I did spend a fair bit of time in Nagoya) and found I learned rapidly while being isolated from English compared to back home.

      • Absolutely this. I used to buy Doraemon manga from book off and slog through them, unfortunately I have slacked off and Japanese has suffered accordingly.

  • Arigato Gozaimasu!

downloaded and started listening to "Learn Japanese: Word Power 101: Absolute Beginner Japanese #1"
like most of these learning language things, they basically say something in English then in Japanese and you supposed to pick up that way….
first example of the book. "this is 10 pieces for THREE HUNDRED yen"(in English) then they said the following in Japanese "this is 10 pieces for three THOUSAND YEN"
    lol

That's a pretty good price for a comprehensive virginity defence system.

    • +5

you're only jealous cause they had a choice to opt into that paradigm. :P

    OP thanks for the ebooks
Son has to learn japanese next year at school so these may come in handy

also do I have to be a member of/ join audible to get the audio books?

as when I try to get them, it asks me to sign up/ enter my amazon details
basically I am wondering if I am inadvertently signing up to an audible trial by getting these audio books? and then the credit card details will help to maintain my monthly account after the trial?

    • +1

I am not sure if you will be opted into a trial simply by getting the free audiobooks. I can tell you though that there is no monthly fee to maintain an Audible account. The monthly subscription is only if you want to receive "monthly credits" which can be used to redeem an audiobook.

Sweet. JLPT coming up in December. 毎日勉強なければならない

      *しなければ

Me too for December. What level are you going to do?

      • +1

thanks for the correction, bunpro only helps so much…

    • Surely these books are too basic for JLPT…

      • Doing N4. to pass the JLPT, youre best off studying the JLPT textbooks. so says everyone who has passed.

        • Agreed, the text books are best. But as mentioned previously Anki is amazing and has been a huge help too

        • I did n2 and never looked at a textbook

  • It appears that a lot of the Audible books in all the languages from the company are free. Click on the Innovative Language Learning link on the Amazon audible book page. They will either be listed as discounted to free or free with audible trial. So just click on discounted to free ones.

    ōkini chibot🏯 (Kansai-ben)

  • It seems the last book, “Fluent Japanese From Anime and Manga” is no longer free.

    • AU not free. US is still free.

      • It actually listed as:
        Kindle Price: $2.88

        Save $4.11 (59%)
includes free international wireless delivery via Amazon Whispernet

On the US site, but when I click buy it now, it didn't charge me and show up in my account as $0.

  • Sweet thanks OP

  • Thanks OP !
