    Competitions belong in the forums

    This is not a bargain…

    • How can I delete the post?

      • +1

Mods will move it to the competitions section. (eventually…)

          Thank you!

            @Anurag Kumar: You're welcome…

@jv: Apparently Mods didn’t remove the post or moved it to competitions section…

              • @Anurag Kumar:

                (eventually…)

                • @nismo: Ok. It’s weird that there is no option to unpublish or delete a post.

                  • +1

@Anurag Kumar: You can submit a report or start a discussion with Mods.

Also, I don't know if it qualifies as a competition (?) since it costs $5+p if you "win" which is a bit dodgy in my opinion.

                    • @nismo: Thanks for the details mate!

                      • @Anurag Kumar: To answer some questions by anurag / nismo etc After some internal discussion we decided not to move this to Competitions for the following reasons:

                        • You don't actually win a prize, like Nismo said..
                        • Getting the answers correct in the trivia game gets you an entry to the promotion / opportunity to buy a Google Home mini for $5
                        • We don't want to set a precedent where store reps can start posting and disguising deals as a competition (where they do not belong due to the lack of mechanisms like downvoting and performance based store ban) by attaching some kind of game to their promotions.

So there are some strings attached to this deal but ultimately we believe it's best left as a deal and not a competition.

Does anybody here own one of these speakers and actually use it? I see them as a gimmick which will eventually die out…

    • +2

They don't sound very good as 'speakers' (they are mono, the bass is non-existent and only pumps sound in one direction), but they are useful as a entry level smart-home device. I use mine quite a lot to automate other smart home devices, help me in the kitchen with timers and occasionally play some music through it.

You'll need some creativity to make the G. Home useful. Out of the box it doesn't do much, it's not until you add-on other products such as smart lights / smart switches and other kinds of Chromecast enabled things in your home that it number of things it can do increases.

    • +2

Yep use it almost every day. Mostly because I can use it to control lighting / heating / tv in my room.

Occasionally I'll see what the weather is going to be like or get the news.

My daughter has a mini which she uses constantly for Google music and sometimes asking Google general knowledge questions that she would usually come to me for. My son uses his for music occasionally and to control his tv mostly. I have a Google Home which I have set up in the media room connected to the surround sound in there and use it for music and a bit of everything else.

I use mine as a kitchen timer

        • I think I got negged for saying that last time.
I like creating a circular loop so they all talk to each other - drives everyone crazy but gives me such satisfaction.

          • @pennypincher98:

I think I got negged for saying that last time.

            You are not alone…

(PS: Do not play the above link whilst near your google home mini…)

    • I use it mostly in the kitchen for: timer, set alarms, do countdowns, check news outlets, weather, use Star Wars quotes, listen to jokes, listen to the radio when preparing/cooking food, my 3 year old can even use it to play songs on Spotify Premium.

"hey google, play some dinner music"

Proceed to eat to the sounds of smooth jaz.

"Hey Google, play some Barry White"

        giggity

      • upvoted for the sheer audacity of this mad lad

  • How much is shipping?

    • Shouldn’t be more that $10. Usually Catch shipping costs are between $6.95 - $9.95 for smaller items.

  • What's the bet the servers will go down? Haha! I would't mind one for the bedroom so I may give this trivia thing a crack. I'm still enjoying the first one I got from this deal in my kitchen/living area.

I was one of the lucky 50. $11.95 delivered! Awesome! 10 questions to answer. The video with Suze Raymond in it gave 2 of the answers. Had to google a couple of others and knew the rest.

Cheers OP, managed to grab one

  • Didn't know the answer. Game over on the first question. 😅
