    Isn't gmail already free ?

    • +7

Costs nothing more than your privacy.

      • +2

Meh.. Google already know so much.

    • Yes but this revolutionises Gmail by adding an entirely unnecessary installation step!

      • Oh. Thanks

  • There's already tonnes of free desktop email clients that support Gmail accounts, not entirely sure what the benefits are with this.

    • No one wants to use Gmail in the browser on a phone. But that's our only choice on the desktop. Until now.

      What.

Their page looks like an ad for Gmail itself rather than their software which appears to just be a browser wrapper anyway. Some of the Google Docs integration could be handy if you really use them that often but otherwise… I'm at a loss at what their USP is too.

      /shrug

  • I'm fine to have my Gmail tab open all day next to my OzB tab. And hey if I need to multitask between browser tabs, I can just drag them out into a new window.

Also, 100% of what? I mean it sounds like a subscription. I can't see it changing my life to the degree that I would pay to have google abuse my privacy.

Can't use it anyway. No Linux version.

Use an application windows instead of a browser window..

  • +8

This is just a browser packaged to not look like one.
Everything they claim they can do and can't be done in Gmail is bullshit, like composing in a separate window for example (Gmail CAN do this).

It's so dodgy i feel justified negging it.
It might be free…. for now, but that doesn't make it a bargain if you're not actually getting anything of value.

So you're saying Kiwi will likely never take flight?

    • +2

It's just a separate browser that connects to GMail + requires permissions to your Google account.

      Really dodgy, in my opinion.

Gmail for desktop is Gmail. Gmail is a web application (as is all of GDocs) and nothing will unchain that.

This would've been better as a tiny (and free) Chrome plugin to provide the very few extras it seems to have (added context menu items, an icon bar - although Google already has its own hamburger menu thing). Chrome UI is already minimalist as hell.

This feels like an answer to a problem that no one had.

  • Kiwis can now ask you to hand over your Gmail account details at the airport if they believe that their national security is at risk.

  • I’d just go to my neighbour if i need kiwi service…

Pretty sure the installer put something called 'nexac.com' on my PC which appears to be an ad serving malware. Uninstallation of the kiwi software appears to have removed it.

When I visited sites in chrome, I was getting a console error because the nexac domain was being blocked by my firewall.

    Beware…
